Huh?

From Instapundit:
HEADLINE OF THE DAY: Air Force Pounds MILF.
Not what you, or at least me with my mind firmly in the gutter, would think. Maybe they need a better acronym for these bozos. Then again, maybe it fits perfectly.

Is that the best they can do?

If the anti-gunnies or the left-liberal dicks must resort to this level of discourse, it means we're doing something right. Even better, I see it as another sign we're winning.

The future of journalism

With the advent of the internet traditional new outlets are taking a major hit. Those traditional outlets are arguing that their role in our society is so critical that the Fed should bail 'em out. Well the FTC has a working paper on the subject that more or less calls for federalization of the media. Considering just how far the head of the mainstream media is up the ass of the current administration I'm not sure what the difference will be other than from where the paycheck will come.

When that happens kiss the First Amendment goodbye. We'll have a Ministry of Propaganda Information to run the show and what we'll get from it is Pravda.

Dueling Banjos - Lester Flatt

A neat post over at Roberta X's got me to thinking about Lester Flatt's Dueling Banjos, which lead me to You Tube, which lead to this, which is also neat.

Six Flags turns away tattooed woman

A lady in Texas, with revolvers and roses tattooed on her chest, was denied entry to Six Flags over Texas because an employee felt the tattoos were offensive and a violation of their dress code.
"She said it was as offensive as a swastika and that she would sell me a $5 shirt to cover myself up and that they didn't let people with swastikas into Six Flags, and that my tattoo condoned violence," Osborn said.
The tattooed lady and her family were able to enter from another entrance and after she complained Six Flags management apologized and promised to deal with the employee.

I’ll give Six Flags the benefit of a doubt and place this one on the bias of the employee. Her other job must be as a public school administrator.

Stealth Gun Control

I’ve seen no confirmation from other sources, but Alan Korwin of the Uninvited Ombudsman reports that sources he trusts have told him the Obama White House has ordered the State Department to do what it can to prevent the importation of WWII and Korean War era firearms back into the United States.
The main effect of this move is, without fanfare or public attention, to stop the flow of fine M1 Garand and M1 carbine rifles into the hands of American citizens. The M1 is an affordable, accurate, dependable, and exceptionally well-made general-purpose American rifle. Made in .30 caliber, it was the first auto-loading rifle generally issued to the infantry of any nation.
If true, this is but another example of Obama’s pushing gun control through bureaucratic and administrative maneuvering rather than direct legislative action. He has no balls for a stand-up fight with gun owners or the NRA, but why should he when he can get what he wants by stealth.

I damn near choked when I saw this...

Don't worry Papa O will foot the bill...

The federal government will shoulder almost the entire cost of the Medicaid expansion established in the new health reform law, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study, the Washington Post reports.

So that would mean my Federal taxes rather than my State taxes will be paying for Obamacare. That means, you twits, taxpayers will be footing the bill no matter what wealth redistribution outlet it’s funneled through. As Claire Wolfe says…
…it’s no wonder that 24 percent of Americans believe the fedgov has its own money supply, completely independent of taxpayers.
H/T to Claire.

U.N. Small Arms Treaty

From a Washington Times editorial on the U.N. Small Arms Treaty...
This U.N. treaty will lead to more gun control in America. "After the treaty is approved and it comes into force, you will find out that it has this implication or that implication and it requires the Congress to adopt some measure that restricts ownership of firearms," former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John R. Bolton warns. "The [Obama] administration knows it cannot obtain this kind of legislation purely in a domestic context. ... They will use an international agreement as an excuse to get domestically what they couldn't otherwise."
The Obama Administration has shown no support for gun control legislation in the House or Senate. Its fairly obvious they want to avoid the political blow back of said support. Yet they're supporting the U.N. Small Arms Treaty like we don't understand its intent or probably consequences. That is one of the hallmarks of the Obama Administration. They think they're the brightest kids on the block and the rest of us are stupid. Time to teach them otherwise.

…and it took the ATF forty-two years to figure this out?

Reversing an interpretation of the Gun Control Act that has been on the books for more than four decades, ATF today posted a ruling declaring any shipment of a firearm by a manufacturer (FFL) to any agent or business (e.g., an engineering-design firm, patent lawyer, testing lab, gun writer, etc.) for a bona fide business purpose to be a "transfer" under the Gun Control Act of 1968. As a consequence, legitimate business-related shipments will now require the recipient to complete a Form 4473 and undergo a Brady criminal background check. In many instances, these requirements will force shipments to a third party, thereby lengthening the process and the time that the firearm is in transit.
This is the face of the Obama Administration. They don’t have the balls to push for gun control directly through legislation. Instead they do it by changing bureaucratic policies to make life more difficult for the gun industry and gun owners. Anybody remember the order to trash once fired military brass? Gun control or at least harassment from the flank. Expect even more of this crap.

H/T to Alan.

A cut off switch for firearms?

Since 2008 new cars have been with a device that would allow an outside operator to disable your car. IBM has submitted a patent for the device, called CARSHARK that would make this possible. With the nanny staters pushing for smart guns what do you think might the next logical extension of this technology? It’ll be for the children and of course “officer safety”. The safety of the gun owner? That’s secondary to the whim of government even now. David Codrea has more here.

A good self-defense shooting in Chicago...

...is one that Mayor Daily can’t prosecute because it will make him look like a bigger dick than we already know he is.

An 80 year old Army veteran shot and killed a burglar after said burglar fired twice into his apartment.
"He missed, (but) my daddy didn't," said the 80-year-old's son, Butch Gant.
Heh.

For some reason this doesn’t surprise me at all.

Quote of the Day

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen. - Samuel Adams

I'm ashamed to say I'd never read [or don't remember it] this quote until I read it here.

H/T to Joel.

Just the facts ma'am.

I don’t ask much of an editorialist these days. Considering what pops up on the editorial pages its best not to. What I do ask is that the writer, before they put pen to paper, do a little research. I do ask that the writer not take the words of politicians at face value. I do ask that your fact be, ya know, facts.

Susan Estrich failed the test. She failed it when she repeated Calderon’s statement that 80% of the 75,000 firearms seized over three years during Mexico’s current spat of violence with local drug lords come from gun shops in the United States. That’s misinformation [a lie] and Estrich is either incompetent at her vocation because she repeats it or doesn’t care because it supports her aim. I'm not sure which is worse.
Thus, if the “last three years” the President mentioned are 2007, 2008, and 2009, only 9,760 of the guns seized in those years – the total of 2007 and 2008 – definitely came from the U.S. The U.S. share for 2009 has not yet been reported, but even if it doubled the total of 2008, the U.S. share for all three years would be less than a third of the 75,000 seizures in Mexico. A more realistic U.S. share is between 20 and 25 percent.
That’s called a fact. I suggest you become acquainted with the concept. That’s also a lot of guns, but still not enough to let you, Calderon, or our elected officials, ignore the Constitution and strip me of my right to bear arms. By the way semi-automatic rifles, what you call assault weapons, in .223 cal., 7.62mm, or other calibers are used for sport, hunting and, home protection. That’s another fact you failed to research.

H/T to the pistolero.

Calderon's lies. Obama's agenda.

In response to Calderon’s Misinformation [blatant lies] on the number of guns traced to U. S. sources, Jeff Soyer over at Alphecca wrote…
Okay, we already know all this but Obama either doesn’t, or is in denial along with most Democrats.
…or doesn’t care because the misinformation furthers his agenda.

The only reason Obama isn’t pushing a new assault weapons ban or more stringent gun control [total ban] is he knows the political consequences and/or believes he can reach the same end by bypassing the legislative approach and hitting us with it from the flank [CIFTA].

Shoot to...

Apparently some twit politician in New York City wants to require police shoot to stop the bad guy rather than shoot to kill. Stupidity at this level seems to come mostly from large metropolitan areas.

I was taught that if the situation required you to use your weapon you always shoot to stop. You fire two rounds center mass. That would be the center of the chest for those of you who are New York City politicians. If that didn’t have the desired effect you shoot him again and again until the threat is stopped…permanently.

This politician apparently isn’t bright enough to understand that most police officers under stress will be lucky to hit the largest part of the bad guy and a hit to the arm or leg gonna be kinda like throwing snakes eyes.

For a job well done…

a reward.

An employee at Wal-Mart sees a man trying to steal a computer and stops the theft. Corporate policy is that only managers and asset protection employees can stop a thief stealing product. Her reward is termination.

I suspect lawyers and fear of liability are the culprits here and that It’s cheaper to lose product than pay for an employee's injuries or fight the bullshit lawsuits that might arise. BUT this employee tried to do right by her employers, earn her shekels, and got fired as a result. My question for the brave lady is did anyone ever tell you that you were stand there like a lump on a log while the thief walked out with Wal-Mart’s property? If not hire your own lawyer. That’s their reward. And while a job is a job in this economy this brave lady can do better.

In a mature society, civil servant is semantically equal to civil master. - Robert A. Heinlein
...and here's Bore Patch's riff on the topic.

In a free society when public/civil servants do not see themselves accoutable to those who they serve we're headed toward one enormous FAIL.

House Odds

A friend, far wiser than I, once told me that when a policeman stops you 10% of the time he has made up his mind and you are riding off with no less than the citation you deserve. Nothing you do will change his mind. The remaining 90% the outcome is up in the air. The officer hasn’t decided how he’s going to handle the matter and a yes sir, no sir, you’re absolutely right sir, or just plain being polite might just might make the difference between the citation and you riding off no worse for wear except for maybe a polite ass chewing.

I went to see Robin Hood last night and thought it a good movie. Hey, Robin Hood as libertarian rebel rather than proto-Marxist I can live with. I won’t say I wasn’t bothered...

...by Mexican President Calderon’s comments on the White House lawn or to Congress. He was critical of the Arizona immigration law. That’s an internal disagreement between family members and not one bit of the neighbor’s business. He wants Congress to renew the Assault weapons ban because guns are allegedly finding their way south from the US. I’m sorry he’s having the problems he is down south but my rights aren’t subject to the needs of Calderon or his nation’s citizens. I am pissed off that CIC Obama [and the first C don’t stand for Commander in my book] and the Democrats in Congress had the gaul to agree with and applaud Calderon’s comments. Calderon should have been escorted to the border and ordered over with a boot print on his ass. The fact that he wasn’t tells us a lot about Obama’s agenda regarding immigration and our Second Amendment rights.

The quality of discourse…

…in a fair and balanced debate on FOX about immigration and the current Mexican President's visit to DC went to hell when the pro-illegal talking-head started yammering that the problem in Arizona wasn't illegals but the 7000 arms dealers [gun shops] along the border selling semi-automatic machine guns [anything that goes bang] to Mexican nationals. At least get the terminology right before you open your pie hole or better yet just shut the hell up. Sorry no link just happened to overhear said twit.

So much for rule of law

The only way to effectively deal with certain strains of sex offenders [pedophiles, serial rapists] is a bullet in the head. They don’t believe what they’re doing is evil and without that honest acknowledgement they can’t be rehabilitated. The only alternative is to sentence them to life without parole but as long as they’re breathing there is always a chance they will one day get out. So my position here may seem contrarian. The Supreme Court just said the Feds can keep those sexual offenders sentenced to Federal prisons in custody even after their sentence is complete ex post facto as long as they see fit, and this without due process. At what point did expediency trump the Constitution? These scum, the sex offenders not the Justices, need to be taken out of society forever but we need to do it on the front end though the courts not at the whim of a bureaucrat. Also, who's to say the FED won't someday decide other crimes rate this treatment?

I saw this posted in several places but it was Joe Huffman’s post that pulled mine together for me.

Enough is enough

The Detroit Police Department’s SRT conducted a dynamic entry to serve a search warrant intended to locate a homicide suspect. Now a seven year old girl won’t get any older. The bullet came from a police officers weapon. The officer apparently discharged the weapon during a struggle with an older female resident of the apartment. The police regret the unfortunate incident. The little girl is dead because the police chose flash bangs and “dynamic entry” over other methods to apprehend their suspect. I don’t blame the officers carrying out the raid although having their booger hooks on the fucking triggers was no doubt a contributing factor to the officer pulling the trigger. I blame the department’s administration that allows the use of their SRT for the service of search warrants when other alternatives are available like maybe securing the perimeter and making sure you know which side of the duplex the bad guy is in before you take action. Now I’d like to know what action is going to be taken to insure this doesn’t happen again. I’m not looking to the police because they’ll do bupkis. It was an unfortunate accident. The State Legislature needs to look at how and under what circumstances special response teams are used and make changes. Enough is enough.

Tam has some commentary on the use of SWAT teams for everything but for what they were originally organized. Go read it.

Legion [2010]

The mailman dropped off Legion day before yesterday and I watched it last night. The plot has the angel Michael defying God and coming to earth to save the child that will lead humanity from the apocalypse. God has had it with us humans and pulls the plug but God realizes his mistake when Michael gives his life for the child. Most of the action takes place in a diner in the middle of nowhere. Michael steals enough hardware from an arms dealer fight the good fight. Lots of gun play against possessed human/zombies. Ho hum. It’s watchable but definitely not special. Actually you’d be better served watching The Prophecy with Christopher Walken or Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13.

Oh, and the movies irksome moment: let’s see, young guy with 1911 has to explain to older father figure guy why he carries a gun and can’t really explain himself. How ‘bout cuz I want to and because I had it I was able to save your ass when I offed the evil ceiling crawling granny with pointed teeth by popping off three rounds center mass. Ha!

Running Scared?

The Bloomberg administration announced on Friday that it was moving to simplify the process for New Yorkers to obtain gun permits, thus speeding up a set of byzantine licensing requirements that gun-rights advocates have long criticized as among the most restrictive in the country.
...and that surprises the hell out of me. Bloomberg and his MAIG are becoming the major thorn in the side of gun owners while the other anti-gun organizations seem to have become mostly irrelevant. So why the back step? With a probable loss for Chicago in McDonald v. Chicago, Bloomberg probably realizes New York City is next on the hit list and easing restrictions might help them keep more when it's their turn to lose. Here's hoping not.

Elena Kagan on Gun Control

Kagan Bad on Guns, by Brian Darling

Senator Frank Lautenberg is at it again

Georgia is about to pass a law that would allow gun owners to carry in non federally regulated areas of an airport like the lobby baggage collection, the curb. Senator Lautenberg can't have that so he's introduced A bill that would make it illegal to carry in those areas. He calling it the Firearm-Free Airports Act. Essentially it will make it impossible to carry a weapon to or from an airport. You won't even be able to leave it in your car because the parking lot belongs to the airport.

Enough gun control under the guise of homeland security. Will you guys in New Jersey please throw that useless git out of office. I'm damn tired of his legislative antics. Those of us outside of New Jersey should contact our representatives and tell them how we feel about this attack on our rights

Internet Sex is Bad.

I saw this some time back and thought it damn funny. If I've posted before I apologize and blame it on the early onset of senility.

The best he has to offer?

“During the last year, as I have served as solicitor general, my longstanding appreciation for the Supreme Court’s role in our constitutional democracy has become ever deeper and richer,” Kagan said.
It seems to me that anyone nominated for a seat on the Supreme Court that doesn’t know the difference between a constitutional republic and a “constitutional democracy” just failed the entrance exam.

NRA in Charlotte

I'd hoped to be there at least for one day but a combination of work and family obligations ended that thought. Maybe next year.

It seems that they all died

Ten Somali pirates captured by Russian Marines when said Marines boarded a Russian Tanker to rescue the crew were set adrift in an inflatable raft with no navigational aids.
"It seems that they all died," the unnamed source was quoted as saying by Russia's Interfax news agency.

Russia initially said the 10 pirates would be taken to Moscow to face criminal charges over the hijacking, but they were released instead because there were not sufficient legal grounds to detain them, the defence ministry in Moscow said.
I guess it was easier than a trial.

More on the Drug Raid video

Radley Blako provides follow-up on the Columbia, Missouri SWAT raid. The raid itself pissed me off. The reaction of the police department in the aftermath angers me even more. Balko's article makes it clear that there are Federal laws that set criteria for no knock service of a search warrant. In most States there are local laws that match the Federal laws. I think what we need now are laws that set criteria for the use of SWAT teams during warrant service.

Elena Kagan

There's a lot of differing opinion on Kagan's nomination to the Supreme Court. Neither David Hardy nor David Codrea appear to be too impressed. She has stated that she considers Heller to be settled law, but she worked with the Clinton Administration to push their gun control agenda. She's a mixed bag, but at this point she doesn't appear to overtly hostile to gun owners. That may be the best we can expect from President Obama.

The last line about sums it up for me

Galaxy Song by Monty Python

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.

The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.

...ok with stretching the rules a tad to make work easier for the good guys. Under no means do I support drop kicking due process out the window so that gun control supporters like Mikey Bloomberg can use the no fly list to strip people of their Constitutional rights. Bloomberg wants people on the no fly list barred from purchasing firearms. The no fly list is so screwed up no “reasonable” person should even consider using it as a standard for anything even its current purpose. Little kids have been barred from flying because they share a name with someone on the list. Appealing your name on the list is next to impossible. No one even really understands the Feds process for putting someone on the list but we’re supposed use it as a standard for stripping a person of their rights. This is what Bloomberg wants us at the mercy of so he can further his gun control agenda. My right to possess and carry a firearm is a Constitutional, civil, and human right. I won’t give 'em up. Read into that what you will.

Selective enforcement teams,...

...SWAT teams, or whatever combination of letters a police department uses to designate their special response teams, were initially organized to respond to hostage situations, but you can’t have those guys sitting on their asses waiting and training. So, police departments started using them for high risk search warrants which came to mean drug raids which lead to shot dogs, insignificant amounts of marijuana seized, and parents charged with child endangerment because, well, the police didn’t have anything else to charge them with but a misdemeanor schedule VI charge. In this situation the only people that endangered the child were the police when they kicked in the door and shot the dogs. I dare you to watch this video and not get pissed off. Police videotape search warrant service so those targeted can’t make unsubstantiated claims against them. Here's hope, that in this case, the practice causes them no end of trouble.

The Missouri House Legislature...

The Missouri House Legislature ...passed legislation that would prohibit business owners from forbidding licensed gun owners from having weapon in their vehicles when parked on private property even if the property owner prohibited firearms on their property. It still has to pass their Senate.

The site I got this from called it an anti property rights law. I disagree. I’ve always felt that a property owner's property ends at the tires of my car and vise versa. What I have in my car is my business as long as it stays in my car. Outside of my car the property is theirs and I’ll abide by their wishes or stay off their property. Businesses that bar legal carry on their property don’t get my business.

A couple of items of interest.

Federal Judge Victoria Roberts ordered the Hutaree militia arrestees released on bail. They've still got to face their day in court, but it feels like the judge spanked the Justice Department. I've no opinion on their guilt or innocence. It does seem to me the prosecutor should be less concerned with holding back info to protect his case than giving the judge what she needed to justify holding them. That is if the prosecutors had a case to begin with. Also the timing of the arrests smelled.

and...

I understand a Taliban bomb maker claimed responsibility for the bomb. The guys over at Long War Journal acknowledge it's at least a possibility and seem to know what they’re talking about. Mikey Bloomberg and Chucky Schumer are on the news claiming it’s not terrorism and that a “lone wolf” must be responsible. The reasons given are the bomb was amateurish and it didn't work. God knows the underwear bombs Al Qaeda build always work. I don’t know one way or the other, but if I had to pick who might have a not so hidden agenda at who they point their fingers at it wouldn’t be those pointing them at the Taliban. Mikey and Chucky have a proven track record.

Hah!

I'd pretty much decided that if I watched Avatar it'd be off a shitty bootleg so I could avoid giving that dick James Cameron even one red penny. After reading this review I may just check it out of the library if only so this review is even funnier the second time I read it.

S&W M4516 repair.

A friend was at the range the other day shooting and his Smith & Wesson 4516 malfunctioned. He pulled the trigger and the hammer did nothing much. He brought it to me to look at. The arm on the ejector was broken off [how the fuck...?]. What was left had torn through nylon ejector depressor plunger so that the spring pushed through and got mangled during the operation of the slide. I’ve been told it’s not uncommon but it’s the first time I’ve seen it. Most of the Smith’s I worked on in the past got regular preventive maintenance and avoided the issue. I've got an ejector but I'll have to order the plunger and spring. It’s a simple fix with eight dollars worth of parts. I ordered the parts and they came in a couple of days ago. Tomorrow I'll do the repair.

National Guard in Chicago

If Mayor Dailey calls out the National Guard to police the streets of Chicago it is because his administration has failed to duty to serve the people of Chicago. If he feels the need to deploy troops into Chicago the only right and proper thing for him to do is deploy them ask for his subordinates resignations and then resign. I won’t hold my breath. I wish he would. What he's doing is just a ploy to push his gun control agenda before the Supreme Court shuts him down and makes about as much sense.

H/T to Bore Patch.
