Horse Feathers!

Obama: Bad apple insurance companies are to blame for all this losing of plans you liked
Mr. President, your bill requires everyone to buy a one size fits all insurance policy so those with policies that don't fit the one size lose them. You and your Democrats decided what fits all. Insurance companies were in it as far as getting a captive customer base but you, Mr. President, decided what form said one size policy would take. Not even your loyal media lackeys are buying this one.

So the blame is yours. Accept it.

Books

The Dark at the End - F. Paul Wilson
Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan
Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters - Rick Riordan
Affliction - Laurell K. Hamilton
Cold City - F. Paul Wilson
Dark City - F. Paul Wilson

I picked up the Percy Jackson books because I'd watched the movies and was interested to see what the novels were like. They are OK.

I really liked the first few novels in the Anita Blake series but the sex came to take the lead over plot. I stopped reading them. She seems to have found a balance with this and the last book. I liked it.

F. Paul Wilson's Repairman Jack novels have always been favorites. I highly recommend them all. The best part to me was always his stings. I could take or leave the supernatural elements. The Dark at the End is all Jack the Heir with no Repairmen in it at all. I understand why at this point in the series. Still, it's a good read. Cold City and Dark City takes us back to shortly after Jack arrived in New York City and we see is evolution into Repairman Jack. No supernatural stuff. Its Jack finding his place in the world. They are part of a trilogy with the third yet to come out. If these are the last Jack novels, I'll miss them, hope for more later on, but if not, this is a good end. Thanks.

GRNC Alert: Support the Tiger Swan Range

John Richardson has more details here.

The short version is that some anti-gun locals have been trying to shut the range down almost since it opened. the owners have done everything asked of them except shut down and that still isn't enough. Gun owners need places to train. Despite all their talk of the need for training and gun safety, the prohibitionists keep trying to shut down the venues that support training and gun safety. I guess their definition of gun safety is no has guns or the means to be proficient with them. Read the alert below and let the Cumberland County Commissioners know they need to approve Tiger Swan's zoning application.

Do it. Do it now.

They talk about 'Gun Safety' but don't want anyone to practice and train...

The Second Amendment supporters responsible for developing Tiger Swan, a relatively new but well-used Cumberland County outdoor range, have done everything right. The operation was recruited by county officials in 2008 to locate in Cumberland County and began operations in 2010. After years of work and at great expense they have exceeded the numerous difficult requirements now required for establishing new outdoor shooting ranges. For their range they have:

  • Obtained almost 1000 acres of agricultural land, five times the 200 acres required by county rules.
  • Carefully and professionally engineered their site to contain all “Surface Danger Zones” on the property itself.
  • Maintained access control.
  • Secured liability insurance of $5 million, exceeding the required $2 million.
  • Hired an engineer to plan and certify that the range to complies with EPA “Best Management Practices.
Since opening three years ago, a small group of residents has sued Cumberland County to revoke Tiger Swan's zoning, effectively “moving the goalposts”. Although this group cites concern over noise, danger from stray rounds, and unsubstantiated claims of reduced property values, it is clear what they are really attacking: the right to use firearms in Cumberland County.

While fighting in the courts, Tiger Swan has reapplied for an operating permit under revised County rules established by Commissioners in June, 2013. The Commissioners will meet this coming Monday, October 21 to decide if the permit will be granted.

Denial of this permit will eliminate training opportunities for citizens and law-enforcement officers, as well as cause a chilling effect on range development everywhere in the state. If this first-class operation can be “run out of town” by the gun grabbers, anyone can.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

  • Email Commissioners. Tell them you support the range operated by Tiger Swan.
  • Sign the petition in support of granting Tiger Swan's operating permit HERE or go to: http://grnc.org/tigerswan-range-petition
  • Plan to politely attend the Commissioners' meeting this Monday, October 21, 6:30 pm, at the Cumberland County Courthouse, Room 118.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject: "I Support Tiger Swan Range"

Dear Cumberland County Commissioner:

Those opposed to the Second Amendment often cite concern about safe handling and adequate training as excuses to infringe on the right of citizens to bear arms.

At the same time these same groups attack efforts to provide training and practice by making it impossible for shooting ranges and training facilities to operate. They cannot have it both ways.

As you know, the Tiger Swan range has bent over backwards to comply with rules and regulations, and has safely operated in Cumberland County for years. This organization provides important training opportunities to both citizens and law-enforcement. It is in the best interest of both citizens and the County for this operation to continue. In addition, it is only fair.

I expect you to approve Tiger Swan's operating permit. I will be monitoring progress through Grass Roots North Carolina alerts.

Sincerely,

Thursday, October 17, 2013

The plan includes a proposal offered by McConnell in the 2011 debt ceiling crisis that allows Congress to disapprove of the debt ceiling increase, which means lawmakers will formally vote on whether to reject a debt ceiling increase until Feb. 7. Obama can veto that legislation if it passes. If Congress fails as expected to gather a two-thirds majority to override the veto, the debt ceiling would be raised.

US Senate Decisively Rejects U.N. Arms Trade Treaty

The State Department accepts under the customary international law of treaties that the U.S. is bound not to violate the “object and purpose” of a signed but unratified treaty. Both Senate and House letters reject this assertion.

The Administration has also implied that it can implement the ATT through its existing authorities and without new appropriations.

The employee who dressed up may face disciplinary actions. Why only him? Whoever had anything to do with setting up this exercise "lacked judgment" and their continued employment should be under review.

Oh my gawd. A high school student goes to a party, not to party, but in response to a request by a drunk friend for a ride home. The police arrived while she was looking for her friend and took her name. She wasn't cited. The police acknowledged she was only there to give her friend a ride. Her school administrators stripped her of her position as captain of the volleyball team and suspended her for five games. She is punished for doing the right thing. What should she have done you pompous asses? Told her friend to drive herself home? This is a hell of a way to encourage responsibility in our young people. Zero tolerance. In California...

...Jerry Brown signs into law a bill banning the use of lead ammo in hunting. The goal, I'm sure, is the eventual ban on all lead ammo. As noted in the comments, "They will let you own your firearm just not shoot it."

Oh, and to hunters, they are coming after your guns and ammo too.

That time again...

Well, he won't have to order him to "play dead".

In Albany, Georgia, a six foot tall three hundred pound Probation Officer shot and killed a twelve pound Jack Russell terrier [Patches] because he was in fear of his life. You see the vicious twelve pound doggie [Patches] approached him barking and did not comply when given verbal commands to "get back". Maybe he should have just ordered the doggie [Patches] to "sit!".

I'm not sure which is stupider. That he gave verbal commands to a dog and expected it to comply, or that he admitted to it in his statement. His employers should can him for no reason other than the embarrassment he's brought to the department.

Uneven Odds

House unanimously approves back pay for 800,000 furloughed federal workers

Sorry, that's bullshit. I know it isn't their fault they've been sent home, but Obama's intransigence and petty gamesmanship is costing a lot of people. Businesses that are privately owned and operated in the National Parks at NO cost to the taxpayer have been shut down. The owners and employees aren't getting paid. Businesses that depend on traffic to the parks are losing business. Commercial fishermen in Alaska can't get permits and are likely to miss the fishing season. That's a small sample of the pain caused by Obama's shutdown. Let Federal employees share in the pain Obama is inflicting on the rest of us.

Doctor Sleep - Stephen King
The Given Sacrifice - S. M. Stirling
Glory Road - Robert A. Heinlein
Into the Storm - Larry Correia
Come and Take Them - Tom Kratman
Treecat Wars - David Weber, Jane M. Lindskold

I've noted my problems with the King novel elsewhere. I've read Glory Road so many times I've lost count. I enjoyed it each time. Stirling provides a nice wrap up for the current arc in the Emberverse series. The Correia, Kratman, and Weber novels are of the expected quality and well worth reading.

Feds Try to Close the OCEAN Because of Shutdown

This is governing by temper-tantrum. It is on par with the government's ham-fisted attempts to close the DC WWII Memorial, an open-air public monument that is normally accessible 24 hours a day. By accessible I mean, you walk up to it. When you have finished reflecting, you then walk away from it.

Let hope that the Obama Administration has calculated incorrectly, that people aren't as stupid as they think, and that this lunacy backfires on the Party of Obama in 2014 and 2016.

Demonstratively, people are that stupid. They re-elected Obama, BUT still, hope springs.

You'd think that after writing dozens of best selling novels and making millions on same that you'd take just a bit of time to do a bit of research and get the details right. ...what Obama felt about the people in flyover country...
Need health insurance? The Obama administration has you covered. Simply dial 1-800-FUCKYO to reach the next available health-care provider.

Far from being a mistype, that’s the official number that Health and Human Services wants Americans to dial when seeking health care. Obamacare’s national call center really did list its number as 1-800-318-2596, helpfully spelling out President Barack Obama’s tendency to blatantly flip the bird in plain view.

In the interest of full disclosure the number is actually 1-800-F1U-CKYO, and finally, are our Federal Overlords really that clueless?

The difference, Mr. Presidente, is that when I go to a restaurant I look at the menu and don't order what I can't afford. You go into the restaurant, order the most expensive items, then hand me and other taxpayers the bill. Mr. Presidente, the taxpayers pocketbook isn't bottomless. You just think it is.

October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month

Dysautonomia SOS

Dysautonomia is an umbrella term for multiple autonomic disorders. My son Noah has currently been diagnosed sevral disorders that fall under that umbrella; Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue & Immune Disorder, and Neurocardiogenic Syncopy. There is still a possibility for Gastroparesis & Elhers-Danos syndrome. Basically, what this means is his autonomic nervous system does not function properly. So anything our bodies are supposed to do 'automatically'; body temperature control, pupils dilation, heart rate and/or blood pressure regulation? None of it works for him, and in addition,, it causes Noah's blood vessels to constrict closed or nearly closed when he stands or changes positions. This causes blood to pool at the bottoms of his arms & in his legs & feet & his heart cannot pump the blood back properly.

So why post? Like the title says, "awareness". Most people have never heard of Dysautonomia and knowledge is a good thing. When we started this journey most of the doctors Noah saw had never even heard of it. It's sad when the patient has to educate the doctor. Also, prayers are always welcome and needed. They help.
