I'm pretty sure there was a finger involved here...

...other than the one that was shot off.
Infamous MLB slugger Jose Canseco rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting off his own finger 'while cleaning gun'

The 50-year-old's fiancée Leila Knight told TMZ that he was at their home, cleaning his gun when it unexpectedly fired and blew off his left-hand middle finger. She says Canseco was not aware it was loaded.

H/T to the Duck.

GRNC-PVF Judicial Candidate Recommendations

Early voting has begun here in North Carolina. I usually have a pretty clear idea who to vote for in the standard races. The judicial races not so much. The GRNC endorsements help with that.

Supreme Court (Chief Justice): Mark Martin
Supreme Court (Martin seat): Bob Hunter
Supreme Court (Hudson seat): Eric Levinson
Supreme Court (Beasley seat): Mike Robinson
Court of Appeals (Martin seat): Marion Warren
Court of Appeals (Hunter seat): Bill Southern
Court of Appeals (Stroud seat): Donna Stroud
Court of Appeals (Davis seat): Paul Holcombe

The GOP's nominations vary in the Court of Appeals (Martin seat)race but I'd go with GRNC before the GOP. I trust one.the other not so much lately.

Now, go vote.

H/T to John.

Bill Whittle: Make Him Own It: Why You Must Vote in the Midterms

Recently Read

An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon
Strands of Sorrow by John Ringo

It took a novel by John Ringo to break me away from the Gabaldon novels. I had thought he was done with his zombie books with the last one. Glad he gave us one more. Nice wrap up with a much more satisfying ending than the somewhat abrupt end to the last. Highly recommended.

Home owner wounded protecting family during home invasion.

In Lumberton NC, three evil gits were shot during the course of a home invasion and attempted rape. The 67 year old home owner exchanged fire killing one and wounding two of the invaders but was himself struck several times during the exchange. His wife and granddaughter were not wounded. The home owner and surviving trash are being treated in separate local hospitals.

Heh!

Maybe they figured a couple of politicians were easy pickins'

In Pennsylvania, during an attempted armed robbery of two State representatives, one exchanged gunfire with the two robbers. Both groups fled. No one was injured. The two robbers were later collected by the police.

Representative Flynn is licensed to carry and his voting record seems to be a mixed bag. A politician having a permit to carry has never been a bar to them voting to keeps guns out of the hands of the little people. I'd be curious to know his position on gun control in general.

You have GOT to be kidding?

In Alabama, a five year old girl was forced by her school officials to sign a no violence/no suicide contract for drawing a picture of a gun then pointing a crayon at another student and making gun sounds. The school officials don't need to be worried bout homicidal five year olds. Homicidal parents are another matter.

Bill Whittle: Play the Hand

Pay Attention!

But ya know? Obama's last two anti-gun nominations were made when the Republicans had more than enough votes to filibuster those nominations into oblivion, and they didn't. There were Republicans who voted for those nominees. What makes you think it will be any different when or if GOP have a majority? I'm not convinced it will be. The past is evidence that it won't.

Home invasion goes bad......for the home invaders.

In Texas, a son is awakened by his mother pleading with three home invaders for the lives of her and her daughters. He grabs a gun and shoots one. One evil git is dead. The other two flee for their lives. No family members were injured. That a damn good ending.

Somehow Misfired?

Sources say he was in a classroom for a demonstration of how to break down and clean his service weapon. They say an experienced state police firearms instructor was handling a gun that somehow misfired.
There is so much fail hidden in those two sentences, but I sorta suspect it boils down to a rule two violation and testing a recently reassembled weapon with a chambered round.

When you're teaching your students to break 'em down and put them back together maybe the best place for live ammo for both students and instructors is someplace other than the classroom. Just saying...

...and speaking of Heinlein.

There is a new adaptation of one of his short stories coming to the big screen or maybe the small screen. I can't fine a US release date. The film Predestination is an adaptation of Robert A. Heinlein's short story "All You Zombies". I'll be interested to see how it turns out.
