Concealed carry, open carry, any damn kind of carry...

...don't do you a whole lot of good if the cops are going to arrest you when you discharge your weapon within city limits. Oh, and it don't matter if it's self-defense because the town ordinance [no discharge of a firearm within city limits] in question has no self-defense exception.

A home owner in Garner surprised a prowler. the prowler shot at him and he returned fire. The police cited the home owner...

...and yes. I understand if the choice is your life or a misdemeanor charge you take the shot. This is bullshit that might cost you your permit or your weapon and you shouldn't have to go through it for defending your life or property.

You can get more details here.

Update: Details at NC Gun Blog. Appears the the Gardner town ordinance does have a self-defense exemption. The homeowner wasn't shot at and wasn't on his property when he discharged his weapon and so the exemption did not apply and so he was cited. all of which NBC-17 neglected to include in their report.

A Gunwalker Cartoon

A sudden drop in the price of gas

The price of gas was down to $3.44 per gallon for regular in Durham. I have to keep reminding myself that $3.44 a gallon for gas is still TOO DAMN HIGH. The PREZ is hoping we will forget. The price can't drop enough between now and November 2012 to save Obama's ass. He thinks we're stupid in fact he's counting on it.

The Obama Administration's assault on the Second Amendment...

...has never been a frontal attack. They would rather attack from the flank using international treaties. Looks like Fast and Furious AKA Project Gunwalker was more of the same. With the level of competence we've seen so far I'm starting to wonder if we should be worried at all. The answer is yes, because even a total fuck-up can hit the target once. Once may be all it takes.

Paul Helmke...

...is stepping down as president of the Brady Bunch. Apparently, his next career move is unknown. I wish him the same future success he's had with the Brady Bunch. One that that ends in the obscurity he so richly deserves.

Reading...

I recently watched the HBO miniseries The Pacific and liked it enough that I picked up copies of With the Old Breed: At Peleliu and Okinawa by Eugene Sledge and Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Leckie. I started reading Leckie's book and I'm enjoying it so far.

HB 650 passes Senate.

Good. Details here and here. Now all we need is a reconciled bill and the Governor's signature.

Embed a video...

...and go to jail. This proposed change in copyright law could make it a felony. Some people have way too much time on their hands. Maybe we should give them more.

Now that's funny...

Plaxico Burress

You're not an expert on guns or violence or gun violence. You tucked your unlicensed pistol in your pants and managed to shoot yourself in the leg. You did this in a state with a mandatory minimum sentence for carrying an unlicensed handgun. What you are is an expert on stupid said expertise having been gained by personal experience. As such, the Brady Bunch is welcome to you. Twit.

HB 650 and HB111

Hearings in the NC State Senate tomorrow.

Good.

H/T to John R.

North Carolina State Senator Eleanor Kinnaird...

...apparently stood up in opposition to S679, Castle Doctrine/Amend Firearms Laws, and went on a rant about jihadis buying assault weapons because of the gun show loophole and the gun lobby and just what that the frack they have to do with providing protections to law abiding citizens forced to use deadly force to protect themselves and or family I don't know but Eleanor Kinnaird and her fellow gun grabbers are there to connect the dots for us.

You gotta wonder what kind of idiot would elect her, but when you google her name you notice her district includes Chapel Hill and suddenly it's all clear.

H/T to Bubba.

NC S594

John Richardson has some comments on Senate Bill 594 which would do away with North Carolina's ban on possession on ammo and firearms off premises during a declared State of Emergency. The NRA is pushing the bill, and it's not a bad bill. It's just there is a court case pending here in North Carolina that would effectively do the same thing and give us a much needed court decision [Bateman v. Perdue] in favor of second amendment rights. We have a damn good chance of winning Bateman v. Perdue. Sometimes you have to play the long game. S594 can wait a bit.

Congrats

My middle daughter graduated from High School today.

The drama hasn't ended. It's only shifted to a new venue.

Congratulations Courtney.

HB650 passes second reading...

HB650 made it past its second reading. Looks like they amended it and removed Section 13 which would have prohibited employers from firing employees with CCW for storing their weapon in their car while at work or prohibiting them from doing so. It's all gone.

Still needs to pass a third reading.

UPDATE: John Richardson has more here. Looks like the same old same old: our so called friends looking for excuses to stab us in the back.

Good news...

...that you can make better. The good news is that the bills have gotten as far as they have. The better will be getting them passed and that will take lots of calls to your Representatives.

HB 111, Guns In Parks and Restaurants, passed the House and is sitting over in the Senate awaiting action. Call your Senators and tell them to get off their butts and vote on it. It would be nice if they voted on it before they adjourn.

HB650, an omnibus firearms bill that makes positive adjustments to many of North Carolina's firearms laws, , is up for its second and third reading in the House. If it passes it remains in play for 2012 so, again, call and pester your Tepresentatives about it.

Have I already told you too call your Representatives?

I understand there must be across the board...

...cuts in Federal spending. Only some idiot on the Left, or in the current White House, believes differently. It's gonna happen, but before cutting pay and benefits for Military personnel every other sector of the FED needs to take the cuts first. Just saying.
