I'm pretty sure there was a finger involved here...

...other than the one that was shot off.
Infamous MLB slugger Jose Canseco rushed to hospital after accidentally shooting off his own finger 'while cleaning gun'

The 50-year-old's fiancée Leila Knight told TMZ that he was at their home, cleaning his gun when it unexpectedly fired and blew off his left-hand middle finger. She says Canseco was not aware it was loaded.

H/T to the Duck.

I've got money on it being a Glock or similar, and this was an abrupt failure of muzzle discipline, attentiveness, and failure to maintain procedure (chamber check before trigger release). Of course, THAT bit will never make the report. All anyone will ever see is 'ZOMGTEHEEEVILGUNATTACKEDJOSECANSECOWEAPONOFMASSDESTRUCTIONANDWARANDDEATHANDHORRORWEMUSTBANITFORTEHCHILDRENZ!'

My bet is he broke it down and cleaned it, reassembled it, inserted a loaded magazine, then pulled the trigger for a function check POW finger gone. Yeah MAJOR rule 2 violation. In the end simple carelessness.
