...the Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. It authorized the Federal government to impose and collect an income tax and they've been joyfully separating us from our money ever since.

Fairness my ass.

The Marketplace Fairness Act is about one thing and one thing only and that's increasing revenue for States and local governments. How is it fair that the brick and motor business only has to charge the one tax rate while the internet business has to account for the tax rates in all fifty states and God only knows how many jurisdictions within each State. Oh, and some of those internet businesses are brick and motor supplementing their incomes with the internet. Collecting taxes for so many jurisdictions is cost prohibitive and might very well be the end of smaller businesses. The large internet retailers that support this bill don't care about small business and neither do these governors or the politicians supporting it.

The position of Mayor is up for grabs come November 8th in the City of Durham. Williams Bell and Sylvester Williams are running for the office. I know nothing about "Pastor" Williams' position on the Second Amendment, but William Bell is a member of Mikey Bloomberg's Mayors Against Legal Illegal Guns. His position is obvious.

I live outside the city limits and can't vote in the election. Those of you that are concerned about gun rights and live inside the Durham City limits need to go and vote him out. "Pastor" Williams can't be any worse, and these off year elections have small turn outs. A few votes can make a major difference. Go vote already.

These are also two referendums to raise the sales tax in Durham County. They'll make us the most heavily taxed county in North Carolina. I'm already paying them too damn much and voted no in the early voting. Please go do the same.

President Obama and his Democrats...

...screwed. The largest tax increase in American history starts January 1, 2011 and of course that won't have any impact on the current economy will it President Obama? That's OK. You'll blame it on the Republicans.

One Billion Fricking Dollars!

Here’s a suggestion for the Obama Administration; new regulations so to speak. I understand you all are keen on new regulations. All prospective Federal employees must be current on their Federal taxes before their application is processed. All current Federal employees must be current on their Federal taxes or be invited to find other employment outside the Federal system. Then maybe we won't have Federal employees owning close to one billion dollars in back taxes.

Bloggers Beware

If you have ads on your blog tax strapped municipalities may come looking. In locals in Philadelhia are demanding bloggers buy a business privilege license and pay taxes on profits. Why does this not surprise me? Even if its only a penny the greedy little bureaucrats want your copper. I expect the idea to spread. Its not like they see it as your money.

Maybe I should have titled this "Coming Soon to a City Near You".

Ex-governor Spitzer, we're already making enough shared sacrifice through taxation. When local state and federal governments start cutting unnecessary programs [my definition, not yours] to a degree that it impacts on the deficit spending. It's the people benefiting from government largess that need to sacrifice.

1932 – The Revenue Act of 1932 is enacted, creating the first gas tax in the United States, at a rate of 1 cent per US gallon (1/4 ¢/L) sold. Today the taxes FAR exceed the profits that greedy Big Oil gets on a gallon. But few people know that. You see, the state-run media wants you to think of EVIL Big Oil, not Big Government…

The current Federal tax on gas is 18.4 cents per gallon. In North Carolina I pay an additional 48.6 cents per gallon. Profits for the oil and gas industry on what’s left is about 9.5% per this article. At he current price of $2.63 a gallon the evil oil Companies get about 18.6 cent a gallon [I know. It varies from state to state]. Government [all flavors included] profit more than the oil companies. Maybe they want to consider that as they screw with “big oil”. Oh that’s right; taxes on “alternative energy” will make up the difference. Oh, and this doesn’t even address whether gas taxes need to be this high to begin with or even exist.

...myself I won't wait until the last minute to do my taxes. Finished them one day before the deadline. At least I didn't have to file an extension this year.
