Guess Who Brought a Gun to the Treaty Fight?

Treaties take the support of a 2/3 majority of the Senate to be ratified, and there are almost certainly 34 senators to be found who are ready to stand with the NRA against the UN.

Wayne LaPierre, the CEO of the powerful lobby group, said 58 senators have pledged to oppose the treaty if it covers civilian weapons, fearing an infringement of America’s gun rights.

“I am here to announce NRA's strong opposition to anti-freedom policies that disregard American citizens' right to self-defense. No foreign influence has jurisdiction over the freedoms our Founding Fathers guaranteed to us,” LaPierre said at the UN Arms Trade Treaty Conference in New York.

“The only way to address NRA's objections is to simply and completely remove civilian firearms from the scope of the treaty. That is the only solution. On that, there will be no compromise.”

Now the question is whether the 58 Senators will keep their word.

Nothing coming out of the UN is in the interest of Liberty or my rights. In choosing between Media Matters and the NRA there isn't any real choice. The NRA may be iffy in regard to some of my rights, but on the topic of guns they're spot on.

U.N. Small Arms Treaty

From a Washington Times editorial on the U.N. Small Arms Treaty...

This U.N. treaty will lead to more gun control in America. "After the treaty is approved and it comes into force, you will find out that it has this implication or that implication and it requires the Congress to adopt some measure that restricts ownership of firearms," former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John R. Bolton warns. "The [Obama] administration knows it cannot obtain this kind of legislation purely in a domestic context. ... They will use an international agreement as an excuse to get domestically what they couldn't otherwise."

The Obama Administration has shown no support for gun control legislation in the House or Senate. Its fairly obvious they want to avoid the political blow back of said support. Yet they're supporting the U.N. Small Arms Treaty like we don't understand its intent or probably consequences. That is one of the hallmarks of the Obama Administration. They think they're the brightest kids on the block and the rest of us are stupid. Time to teach them otherwise.

Why don't you and your internationalist, freedom hating trash try to get by without anything from the United States: no money, no peace keepers, no headquarters in New York City, no whipping boy, no nothing. See how that works out ya ungrateful git. The fact of the matter is we don't need the UN. The UN needs us. I for one think it's past overdue for the United States to kick your ass to the curb and go our own way.
