New Law Could Keep Books Out Reach For Children
You have to wonder if the elected officials even consider the unintended consequences of their actions when they pass laws like this. There were fears this law requiring lead testing would put used children's clothing dealers out of business. Now it looks like it might force public libraries to ban children from the stacks because some older books have lead in the ink. No public library is going to be able to afford to test its books with the cost of testing a book between $300 and $600, and I'm not even addressing the issue of retail book stores. How hard is it to THINK a bit before you pass legislation?
