A sentiment with which I heartily agree.

Is the Stupid Party going to stab gun owners in the back on gun control?

Are Congressional Republicans Already Caving In on Gun Control?

Republicans should realize that caving in to the Democrats’ ban demand amounts to party suicide. By that point they have have already caved on tax hikes and may have taken part in slashing our national defense. If they also cave on the Second Amendment, what’s left for them to stand on

Gun owners really need to let your representatives know the consequences of "compromise".

Understand what you are asking for. Scary...

...doesn't even begin to describe it.

What you’ll see in the rebellion

Of course it does...

... "cause you ain't gonna be the one attempting that "prying" thing.
Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. (I would also raze the organization’s headquarters, clear the rubble and salt the earth, but that’s optional.) Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me.
Violent bastards aren't they?

Yes We Can!

Compromise

Something to keep in mind.

“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”

Petition to Keep Obama Safe From Guns

What can I say? The man has a way with...

I've gone on a movie binge..

...the last couple of days. The movies in question would be The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Jack Reacher, Premium Rush, and Lincoln.

I was hesitant to go see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I'd read Jackson was stretching the material to three movies and I couldn't see why it couldn't be done in one and after all you can only add so much padding before you get a boring damn movie. I went and saw it anyway. I'm glad I did. The first movie ends at about the book's halfway mark. It kept my attention throughout. The 48 fps 3D was the best 3D I've seen to date. I'll be interested to see what Jackson does with the next two Movies.

I read a Lee Child novel years ago but I couldn't tell you anything about it now. I enjoyed Jack Reacher enough that I may have to go back and read some of the Reacher books. It's a good action thriller. It also has Robert Duvall playing a gun store/range owner and he isn't depicted as some nut job selling firearms illegally on the side. Good stuff.

Premium Rush was a fun ride. Nothing special just a good solid piece of work by all involved.

All I'll say about Lincoln is go see it. Go see it in the theater. It's well worth seeing.

Les Miserables

About fifteen years ago my wife, another couple, and I went to see Les Miserables performed at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh. It was great and I got hooks. I own the soundtrack and have the 25th anniversary concert. I've often wondered when or if it would ever find it may to film. It did, and it was every bit as good as the stage musical it was based on. All the actors are top notch. I was worried whether Hugh Jackman or Anne Hathaway could handle the singing chores and I shouldn't have. Russell Crowe's voice talents on the other hand are merely adequate. Don't let that stop you. It was well worth spending the bucks to go see it in the theater. In a week or two I'll probably do it again.

Delusional

The only ones displaying a "willful ignorance" of the facts here is the New York Times. Civilians have stopped mass shootings. Some examples are Pearl, Mississippi in 1997, the shooting at Appalachian School of Law in 2002, and Santee in 2001. In these incidents the deaths were minimal because civilians stepped in and stopped the shooter. The Mother Jones study excludes these shootings by defining a mass shooting as one where four or more are killed. Convenient isn't it? What it is is an agenda driven denial of facts or "willful ignorance".
People like Mr. LaPierre want us to believe that civilians can be trained to use lethal force with cold precision in moments of fear and crisis. That requires a willful ignorance about the facts. Police officers know that firing a weapon is a huge risk; that’s why they avoid doing it.
What the New York Times and every other liberal proponents of gun control refuses to acknowledge is the "police" are "civilians" trained to use a firearm. There is nothing special about them and other "civilians" can be trained to use a firearm as well. I don't want to have police are armed guards in our schools. I do however see no reason that teachers and administrators who have volunteered to undergo training in how to use a firearm can't go armed in their schools.

Larry Correia: An opinion on gun control

The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by law enforcement: 14. The average number of people shot in a mass shooting event when the shooter is stopped by civilians: 2.5. The reason is simple. The armed civilians are there when it started.

The teachers are there already. The school staff is there already. Their reaction time is measured in seconds, not minutes. They can serve as your immediate violent response. Best case scenario, they engage and stop the attacker, or it bursts his fantasy bubble and he commits suicide. Worst case scenario, the armed staff provides a distraction, and while he’s concentrating on killing them, he’s not killing more children.

Lots and lots of good stuff in this essay. Think of it as a primer for your arguments against the prohibitionists.

H/T to Glenn.

So I was looking at FOX NEWS earlier this evening...

...and lo and behold Josh Horwitz was on O'Reilly. As soon as I saw his face, I uttered an expletive my son didn't need to hear. Laura Ingraham did a reasonable job of calling him on his bullshit but then Horwitz claimed we needed to laws to keep people from buying guns at gun shows and online without background checks. My son learned a few words he didn't need to learn around my explanation that people buying guns online and at gun shows DO have to undergo a NICS/background check before they can make the purchase and that Horwitz is a worthless lying.... I'm gonna stop watching the TV news for a few days. I'm not getting anything positive from it, and my son doesn't need any more additions to his vocabulary.

If you need a laugh or just a smile...

Hopefully, he'll never have to add a verse about how lawyers are people.

We should be frightened...

...that a member of the Federal Judiciary has proven himself such an ignorant git.

H/T to Jeff.

Seriously. That's it?

I was considering renewing my membership with the NRA until I heard the NRA presser. Not the best speech I've heard lately. Fortunately, the NRA has other talents but speechifying, and Mr. La Pierre the last thing we need is more police, or armed security in our schools. Now armed teachers or administrators is another matter and if the NRA would offer it's resources to train them that would be a good thing. The last thing we need is a TSA for Tots*.
Aw, who the hell am I kidding. I probably still will renew, but I'll also send as much cash as I can to the Second Amendment Foundation, Gun Owners of America, and our local group,Grassroots North Carolina, and anybody else fighting the good fight. Never hurts to hedge one's bets.

It'an android phone, a Kyocera Rise, and I rather like it. I don't think I'll be blogging with it much but it serves when I don't have access to my PC.  Which at the moment I don't.

BTW I don't have a link but I noticed on FOX the local cops and the ATF raided the gun store the evil Newtown git's mom bought her guns from.

Why?

I can see the ATF checking the store"s paperwork but instead of walking in, flashing their credentials, and checking the form whatevers we get a raid. A raid? I guess the ATF has to appear to be doing something and harassment is a something the ATF has a lot of experience with. Just saying...

Update: Here's a link.
ATF raids gun store where Newtown shooter's mother purchased guns
...and of course their interest in the store had nothing to do with the fact the evil gits mother bought the gun there. Riiiight.

It worked so well during Prohibition.

Reason's Jacob Sullum defends Gun Rights...

...and in so doing kicks Robert Wright's butt. I'm amazed how many liberals are willing to pass a law that would turn millions of gun owners into felons overnight. What's even more amazing is that those same liberals think gun owners will willingly turn their guns or magazines in just because they passed a law. Heads in the clouds or up their asses. Same difference, I guess.

Gallup: To Stop Shootings, Americans Focus on Police, Mental Health

Americans are most likely to say that an increased police presence at schools, increased government spending on mental health screening and treatment, and decreased depiction of gun violence in entertainment venues would be effective in preventing mass shootings at schools. Americans rate the potential effectiveness of a ban on assault and semi-automatic guns as fourth on a list of six actions Gallup asked about.

That's House Majority Leader Boehner center front in case you didn't recognize him. If this is the level of support fiscal conservatives can expect from the Stupid Party on the budget, God help gun owners when the "national discussion on gun violence" begins.

Twenty Minutes

CNN is reporting it took first responders twenty minutes to arrive at Sandy Hook. How the hell could it possibly take twenty fricking minutes for the first police officers to arrive on the scene? Of course, this is CNN so there is a damn good chance they're reporting to the level of accuracy we've come to expect from them: piss poor.

Quote of the Day

When people say things like “don’t let this moment pass without acting on gun control,” what they’re really saying is our arguments are so unpersuasive that they can only succeed when people aren’t thinking clearly.

A rational response would be nice...

4 Awful Reactions to Sandy Hook School Shooting - And Thoughts on a Better Response

Two hundred and thirty-nine years ago today...

...members of the Sons of Liberty, dressed as Mohawks, went to Boston Harbor and held a tea party.

The morally serious argument of the pro-gun lobby

In light of this reality, it is not hard to understand why gun owners take it personally every time someone suggests regulating firearms. Just as women feel that the government ought not be able to dictate what they do with their bodies and their health, on some level, gun owners perceive gun regulation as interfering with their right to self-determination in a similar way. They do not want to rely on someone else to save them.

Yep

The Only Way to Stop a Gun is With a Gun

Our shooters are creatures of the media, not the NRA. A media that turns killers into celebrities and then warns that the only way to stop more shootings is by cracking down on firearms.

But no amount of media coverage ever stopped a man with a gun. It only encouraged him. It takes a gun to stop a man with a gun. That is the hard truth of human affairs. It is why we have a Second Amendment, it is why we have armies and police, and it is why people own guns.

Works for me.

Active shooters in schools: Should teachers be trained by police firearms instructors?
H/T to 1st Amendment.

Twenty kindergartners and six adults...

...are dead in Connecticut because an evil git walked into their school and shot them dead. I can't even imagine how devastated I'd be if that happened to one of my kids. My heart goes out to the families of the dead. I'd like to say now isn't the time for politics but that would be naive. Those opposed to gun ownership are already dancing in the blood of these dead children. This is nothing but an opportunity for them.  Doesn't matter that the policies of the left are as responsible for the deaths of those children as the evil git who shot them. Doesn't matter that one teacher with a pistol could have ended the incident before the evil git managed to get his first shot off. Doesn't matter that this is what we get from zero tolerance and gun free zones. The truth doesn't matter. Their narrative does. The assault on our rights began with the first media report on the incident. Gun owners have to understand that simple fact and get ready for the fight to follow.

Tragedy As Father Accidentally Shoots 7-Year-Old Son Outside Penn. Gun Shop

I'm truly not trying to be a heartless bastard. I do feel for the father. I can imagine, as a father of four, how I would feel if I lost one of my children. That being said, this was not an accident. It's pure unadulterated negligence on the part of the father. If the father had kept his finger off the trigger or kept the muzzle in a safe direction his son would still be alive. It's such a frickin' waste.

One hundred and thirty-seven shots.

In East Cleveland, the police chase a car. When the pursuit ends an officer opens fire on the car claiming someone in the car fired a shot at him. One hundred and thirty-six shots, all of which were from the police, later the two men in the car are dead and there is no gun found in or about the car. Oops. thirteen officers were involved. Thirteen officers were placed on leave. Don't worry the police are investigating themselves.

No Rights They Are Bound To Respect

In North Carolina an M. D. may decide on whether a person is mentally incompetent but a judge has to sign off on it for it to be final. Ya know, checks, balances, judicial review. Apparently, that standard is too stringent for some Democrats in the Senate at least in regard to our returning veterans. Charlie Schumer says "professionals" should make the decision not judges. Also Senator McCain, that stalwart conservative, doesn't want to push the matter because Dirty Harry might moveh to change the rules on filibusters. Schumer has always been just fine with double standards as long as they take guns away from the great unwashed. McCain STILL hasn't figured out appeasement gains you not one damn thing, but then I'm not sure he really cares. In any case, veterans are screwed.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2

I've mixed feelings about the series. I don't like the lead actress, Kristen Stewart. She has the personality and acting ability of a rock. Despite her presence, the first three films were OK and watchable, but nothing I would want to watch again. Part one of Breaking Dawn sucked. Part 2 was a surprisingly satisfying conclusion to the series if only because I need never watch Stewart again. I do suggest you wait for the DVD. You won't be disappointed.

Red Dawn (2012)

I've read all the about the problems this movie had getting to the screen, and I almost didn't go see it. A studio bankruptcy kept it on the shelf and the original villains of this piece were the Chinese. The Chinese didn't like that and since they are a major market for Hollyweird. The villains became the North Koreans. That's a major hurdle in the suspension of disbelief. Like I said, I almost didn't go see it. I'm glad I did. Like the original, a group of High School students find themselves fighting as guerrillas in a war against an invader. It's not as good as the original but it's still fun. It's patriotic, and he main stream critics hate it.

Kipling's poem can also be found here.

Breaking in line can be a bad idea.

In Texas, on Black Friday, a stupid git tried to jump in line and punched a fella in the nose hen he objected. The fella pulled his pistol. The line scattered. The stupid git hid behind a refrigerator then departed the area. No shots were fired. As for the fella with the pistol, a representative of the local police said...

Bill Whittle: Falling On Principle

Neg·li·gent

In California, an off-duty police officer managed to shoot himself in the knee with his department issued back-up weapon. A security video shows the officer standing with the pistol in his pocket and his hand in his pocket. The his departmental spokesman called it an "accidental discharge". I call it a negligent discharge. The pistol didn't go off by itself. How hard is it for these people to say the word neg·li·gent? I figure about as hard as it was for the officer to keep his hand off the gun.

...and now zero percent will buy their weapons legally in Cook County. Why pay the tax when all you have to do to avoid it is cross over to the next county to buy your gat. People vote with their dollars as well as their feet. Only the best and brightest run for office in Chicago.

Executive Privilege?

This leads me to the final point. There are so many reports – many of them false by design – that the picture is worse by the day. What happened at Benghazi happened. The horrible picture developing before our eyes is one of obfuscation, dishonesty, diversion, lies and excuses.

Here’s a note to the DoD and State Department. Listen very carefully. Wolfowitz says “it would appear.” That’s not even nearly good enough. We won’t accept appearances, or anonymous sources. There is a paper trail of deployments, locations, arming orders, force sizes, and so on and so forth. There is yet another paper trail of orders, requests, directives and other communications that fateful night.

We won’t stop until it is all public and assessed by all of us. We will get it, eventually. We will all see it. We will know who did what, who said what, what assets were where, who lied, who equivocated, and who came clean. We will name names.

The players who have any integrity left should come clean now and spill everything. It will go better for everyone in the long run. But it won’t change the facts. And the facts will be found out. That’s our promise.

Any moment now, I'm expecting the White House to claim executive privilege on all Benghazi related materials. It's what they do when the cover-up fails.

Yeah. It was a "deliberate strategy" all right, ...

...but somehow I doubt "identifying the leaders of a major gun trafficking ring” was the actual goal. It was about gun control, and all the whoha to the contrary ain't gonna make it so.

Benghazigate: Chapter Two

An error in victim selection

In Wisconsin, an auto dealer was sitting in his car waiting for his uncle to return from a test drive. His five year old son was asleep in the passenger seat. Two evil gits walked up to the car. The one armed with a .45 demanded "all his stuff". After the victim had provided them with his "stuff", the unarmed evil git demanded the pistol from his companion so he could shoot their victim. At this point the victim pulled his .40 and reversed his car. He was shot in the elbow. He then opened fire on the evil gits. He exited the car to draw fire away from his son. In the end one evil git was dead and the other in custody. That's a good day's work.

He should have taken the hint.

In Indianapolis, a man was shot after breaking into his ex-girlfriend's apartment. She had a protective order against him since the last time he broke into her apartment. Which do you think had more effect on his behavior: The protective order or the gun with which he was shot? Here's a hint. He won't be breaking into her apartment any more. The gunshot was fatal.

Pre-teen shoots home invader

In Oklahoma, an evil git broke into a home and found a 12 year old girl inside. She had grabbed her mother's Glock. He got shot. What would have happened if the pistol had been locked up and inaccessible to the girl. Nothing good I suspect. As it stands, the nothing good happened to the evil git. He survived.

Chicago's "violence tax" should work about as well...

...as any other method with which the gun control crowd has tried to curb "gun violence", which is to say not at all. Th epeople causing the gun violence, gangs and other criminals, aren't paying attention to the current gun laws anyway.

It's not about gun violence or crime reduction. It's about gun control and Chicago continuing their ban by other means.

In Florida, a homeowner heard someone trying to get into his house. He opened the front door and at least three masked men rushed him. One of the men was armed. So was the homeowner. He opened fire hitting one of the worthless gits several times. The others fled. Homeowner - 1, Evil Gits - 0. Works for me.

A Heinlein Quote.

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

NC Voter Registration Deadline

I noticed this post over at Roberta's place. The voter registration deadline in North Carolina for the November 6th election is October 12 at 5:00 p.m. One stop absentee voting starts on October 18th. This is probably the most important election we've had in quite a while. We can not survive four more years of Obama. If you haven't registered, go do it ASAP, and for Christ's sake vote. All of our rights, our freedom, are at stake. Maybe your vote won't change a thing in the end. Not voting makes that definite.

SD: Homeowner shoots home invader

In South Dakota, a 21-year old home invader broke into a house and, using a blunt object, began to beat the 69-year old homeowner. The home owner managed to get his gun, and shoot the evil git dead.

Things sure have changed in Mayberry

In Mt. Airy, North Carolina, two armed robbers entered a convenience store. When the robbers threatened her husband, the clerk pulled her gun and "shot as much as that gun would let [her] shoot." She missed. they fled. No hits that anyone knows of except to the wall and door frame. Maybe she should work on her gun handling and marksmanship. Still, good work ma'am.

It's about winning.

In Seattle, guns, reloading ammo, competition shooting, and making videos of said competitions serve as evidence to support the accusation a person is a murderer. I don't kwon if the suspect did it or not but God forbid you build your case on the actual murder weapon and a motive. Also the prosecutors released the video to the press. Nothing like trying the case in the media or tainting the jury pool. Well, it's never been about justice, only winning.

H/T to Robb.

The word is negligently.

So a flight attendant in Philadelphia, with a CCW permit, forgot she had her revolver in her purse, and got caught with it at the airport's security checkpoint. That bit of carelessness got her arrested. It also cost her her permit, her gun, and probably her job.

A Philadelphia police officer then tried to unload the weapon and accidentally discharged it. It's really simple guys. If you don't know how to unload a particular firearm, leave it alone. If you don't pull the trigger, the gun won't discharge. So when you are unloading a firearm keep your finger off the trigger.

To the journalist who wrote this piece. The word you're looking for isn't accidentally. It's negligently. It takes an act of will, and in this case stupidity, to pull the trigger.

H/T to James.
