Ready or Not (2019)

Ready or Not tells the tale of a newlywed spending her wedding night playing hide-and seek- with the new in-laws. I won't say anything else, because I don't want to ruin it for you, except it had me laughing out loud at several points. It's funny in a twisted sort of way. Oh, lots of gore.

Not the first. Not the second. Won't be a third

For anyone who finds and keeps the love of their life on the first try, I have nothing but admiration. But remember kids, for at least 50% of us, divorce will be expensive for one reason: because it's worth it. - Aesop
My current wife has informed me for the fifth or sixth, maybe seventh time, that she wants a divorce. Whatever. I'll believe it when the papers are served. I should be so lucky. She can't get more from me than she is already getting, which is pretty much everything.

These pieces aren't by anyone of note. I bought 'em because I liked the art, and they were cheap. In ten years they'll probably be worth exactly what I paid for them unless one of the artists hit it big. and YES I've been on a binge lately.

Recent Addition: Enrique Nieto

I saw this page on eBay and liked the way the artist drew the fight. Nice Action. The seller did not credit an artist but did note the comic it was published in was War #9, a Charlton Comic, from 1977. My goto for that kind of information, the Grand Comics Database, had no credits for the story, Horatius at the Bridge. A friend and I were able to find another page from that story at Heritage Auctions credited to Enrique Nieto. Lambiek had a short bio on Neito. All that elicited a "huh?" from both of us. I've been buying comics since the early 70's. As soon as I had money of my own to spend, I bought comics. I had probably seen many examples of his art during the late 70's just didn't know who he was. This page kinda makes me wish I had.

This appears to be a "Convention" sketch by Val Mayerick of two of his creations; Man-Thing and Howard the Duck.
This is a splash page from a commercial publication with art by Mickey Jordan. It is intended as a gift for my daughter who is a fan of Lilo and Stitch.
Then there is this very nice piece by Eric Koda of the X-Men's Rogue. Also, I believe a "Convention" sketch or commission.

Man, I need to stop spending money on art and get back to buying guns. It's cheaper.

I'm not really worried about the fliers but I'm damn well worried about the mentality of the crazy git that made 'em. It's the same sort of mentality that led a guy armed with a rifle to walk into a Wal-Mart in El Paso and up to a bar in Dayton.

John Richardson's blog No Lawyers, Only Guns and Money has been shut down by Google because he, get this, sells a regulated product. John sells nothing on his blog. Blood Dancing: A How To

H/T Borepatch

Sunday, August 4, 2019

Be sure of your target and what lies beyond it.

A police officer responding to a welfare check in Arlington, Texas, attempted to shoot a dog on the property. He killed the 30-year-old woman he was dispatched to check on instead.

When police arrived at the scene, they were initially unable to find the woman in question, but they later located her lying in a grassy area next to an unrestrained dog. According to a statement from the Arlington Police Department, the animal allegedly "began to run towards the officer while barking," prompting the man to fire multiple shots. He missed the dog and hit the woman. She was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

He didn't.

Carry, Carry, Carry!

Michael Bane: “Dammit, how many times do we have to say this?”
I wrote this back in 2008...
I lost my Dad in March of 1981. Two "youths" beat him to death with a tire jack for about three hundred dollars. My Dad carried a little piece of shit Bauer .25 most of the time. He forgot it that day. He had called and asked me to bring it to him. I dicked around, and by the time I got to this workplace he had gone out on his route. I never saw him again. I will carry that guilt with me 'til I'm with my father again. I carry now. Always. Unless its in a place where I can't hide the fact that I am, i.e. any place I have to enter through a metal detector. I carried before CCW was a possibility in my state and will when they take it away. My children will not carry the guilt I do. And if the time comes I shall not go quietly. To you out there, I have this to say. If you can get a CCW permit and carry, do. If you can't, carry anyway. If you do it wisely and properly no one will ever know. If you ever need it then the fact that you were carrying concealed is the least of your worries. All that matters is you go home at the end of the day.
Always carry. Always.
