Heh! Heh!

From John Cox

More on Mexico

Over at the National Gun Rights Examiner David Codrea quotes David Ogden, Deputy Attorney General, United States Department of Justice. This came from testimony made on March 25, 2009.
According to ATF’s Tracing Center, 90 percent of the firearms about which ATF receives information are traceable to the United States.
Today I read this over at Sipsey Street Irregulars. Go read both then do the math and see if two plus two equals four. I believe Ogden is being truthful. Ninety percent of the Mexican guns traced by the ATF do come from the United States. Only they're not coming through gun shops or gun shows. They're weapons sold to the Mexican government with the permission of the the United States government that then found their way into the hands of the cartels. David is right. Officials within the United States Government are telling half-truths with the intent of depriving us of our rights. He calls it...
outright conspiratorial fraud
I agree. So what are we going to do about it?

And where the hell...

...has MSNBC been since November 4th?

I read a story on MSNBC on the increase in gun sales since Obama was elected. My first thought was "...and where the hell have you been?" It's not like it's news anymore and they have reported on the phenomena multiple times already. So why another story? The same reason as the others. Fear mongering pure and simple. Just like the guns into Mexcio = drug violence here and there meme. That's what I've come to expect from MSNBC.

7 Residents, 1 Nurse Die in Nursing Home Shooting

In Carthage North Carolina...
A lone gunman burst into a North Carolina nursing home Sunday morning and started "shooting everything," barging into the rooms of terrified patients, sparing some from his rampage without explanation while killing seven residents and a nurse caring for them.

Authorities said Robert Stewart also wounded three others, including the Carthage police officer who confronted him in a hallway of Pinelake Health and Rehab and stopped the brutal attack.
The shooter is in custody and charged with eights counts of first degree murder. the weapon used was a deer rifle. My condolences to the families of the slain.

Enough again

So it's not legislation, yet, its an international treaty. My reservations remain the same. I see no reason to keep the contents secret unless the writers are afraid of a negative reaction. It's not as if anyone in the House or Senate give a crap what the voters think on these matters. They'll vote the way their major donors tell them to.

Massachusetts court shoots down gun storage law

Over at The Volokh Conspiracy there's a piece on the Massachusetts gun storage law. A local trial court found it to be unconstitutional.
The locking mechanisms [required by the statute] are the functional equivalent of those enumerated in the D.C. statute struck down in Heller.

In Heller, the Court held that the Second Amendment not only protects an individual's right to possess firearms but that the right requires that the firearms be available for "the purpose of immediate self-defense." The Massachusetts statute mandating lock boxes or similar devices would frustrate an owner's ability to immediately access an operable weapon.

Although the statute exempts firearms that are "carried" or "under the control of the owner" from the requirement that they be locked, the statute applies to the lawful owner of a firearm even when he is at home. People can be subject to prosecution whether they are home or not. The term "under the control of the owner" is a question of fact and subject to interpretation. Any ambiguity in the statute as applied to a person lawfully keeping a firearm in the home must be resolved in favor of the holder of the right. Legislation requiring an owner to store firearms in a place inaccessible to children or unauthorized persons would satisfy the Supreme Court's holding in Heller and protect the safety of others.

In light of the foregoing, the Court finds that, based on the Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller, G.L.c. 140, sec. 131L is unconstitutional.
I know that in reality what happens in a local Massachusetts trial court means jack in the North Carolina courts, but maybe the argument would hold in regard to the proposed Rapist Protection Acts part one and part deux. Just a thought.

NC: SB 987 Rapist Protection Act, Part Deux

From GRNC
Apparently in some cultures - namely the NC Senate - if you have a really bad idea then you try it twice... at the same time. At least that seems to be Sen. Malcolm Graham's thinking in introducing SB 987, SB 664's nearly identical twin. The second edition of the Rapist Protection Act is pretty much the same as SB 664 with the exception that it also would require signs in gun stores to threaten potential gun buyers about this measure.

Like SB 664, SB 987, the Rapist Protection Act Volume II, is the reincarnation of the Rapist Protection Act which anti-gunners attempted to enact back in 2001. The bill at that time came from the House in the guise of HB 320. Research has shown that mandatory storage laws lead to increases in rapes, murders and aggravated assaults. This is due to an increased sense of safety "on the job" experienced by the criminal
element. Who do you wish to feel safer in your home, you or uninvited violent criminals?
Call or write your State representatives and ask them to vote against this bill.

Vote Freedom

The Al Gore sycophants are urging us to Vote Earth and turn off our power tonight between 08:30 pm and 09:30 pm. It about the Earth and Global Warming baby. Myself I tend to side with the Cajun.
Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm, local time. I’m thinking about lighting the place up and checking load balance on my house distribution panel with all the burners on the stove lit, the central heat on, and maybe just idling the car in the drive.

Hippy a**holes!
These environmentalist wackos aren't going to be happy until every liberty we have is ground under the heel of saving the earth. The environmental movement has been high jacked by Marxists. They can't win with a direct assault on Capitalism so they try to flank us with this global warming bullshit. So I'm going to crank up everything I can tonight and vote for freedom and against these one world, Marxist-Leninist fucktards.

Apocalyptic Solar Flares?

Enough already.

So the Obama Administration, under the guise of national security, is pushing legislation that will allow the Fed to search your computers or players for copyright violations without a search warrant. It's already obvious that no Republican or Democrat considers the Constitution a bar to any activity in their campaign contributor's best interests. Best interests would be defined as anything that helps their contributors get the changes in the law they want. In regard to copyright, Hollywood, the music industry, and software companies, ie, Microsoft and Apple, get whatever changes in copyright law they want and damn the Constitution and our rights. Money talks and always has. I understand this. I don't agree with the theft of movies, music, and software but with the legislative shenanigans they continue to pull I find myself caring less and less. In their search for copyright violations their property rights shouldn't trump basic concepts like probable cause or the 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments to the Constitution, and if you think they'll stop at copyright violations you are living in a dream world. Enough already.

Punisher: War Zone

I watched Punisher: War Zone. If you like the comics books, lots of gun play, gore, and don't care much for character development and plot, you'll like it. Ray Stevenson makes a much better Punisher than Thomas Jane. There's some elements of the Garth Ennis take on the character but there's a lot of the late 80's early 90's Punisher as well. Lots of little things got my goat. He's described as former Special Forces but they show a picture of him in a Marine Dress Uniform. In the original comics this was explained and both were true, but this is just a screwup. Then Castle tells Julie Benz to squeeze not pull the trigger. And the one that pissed me off: Microchip holding a bag of shooting irons tells the Punisher, "It's gun show season in Virginia. No background checks." Straight from the Brady Bunch talking points. Some Hollywood twit trying to inject a little political commentary. Frank Castle would know better.

Guns in the workplace

Under a bill passed in the Texas Senate employees would be allowed to stow their guns and ammo inside their locked cars or trucks while at work and parked on employer property
Opponents, among them a number of influential business groups, argue the bill is an affront to an employer’s property rights and are wary of potential gun violence as a growing number of Texans lose their jobs.
...and there was going to be blood in the streets and shoot-outs everywhere when concealed carry laws passed in [name state of choice].

Thanks to the pistolero

Another nail in our coffin?

Senate passes National Service Act. Obama is expected to sign it quickly. Both the Democrat and Republican Senators from North Carolina voted yes.

More BS from south of the border

Hillary Clinton visits Mexico and basically tells everyone we're responsible for the violence down south. Once again its reported as fact despite evidence to the contrary. I'm not really upset that Clinton made this claim. I expected no less. She's a worthless political opportunist. I am upset that the press won't ask critical questions about the source of the guns. They accept these allegations without question. The main stream press is once again abdicating their responsibility to be critical observers.

When the productive members of this society get tired of the bullshit, pack up their bags and go elsewhere we are well and truly fucked.

The story says he fired from close range so I guess he was fucking around and intentionally pointed it at his head prior to pulling the trigger. Regardless, he did not survive his encounter with the bullet. He was a suspect in a local feud that I gather has involved bad guys shooting bad guys. Oh, the paper called the shooting accidental. It may be accidental in the sense that I'm sure he didn't intend to blow his brains out, but I think the word you're looking for is carelessly. He carelessly shot himself in the head. He carelessly violated all four rules of gun handling and, well...got the expected result.

NASA naming contest falls for Colbert prank

From CNET News

If the results of an online poll are any indication, NASA may soon be naming a new wing of the International Space Station, Node 3, after late-night comedian Stephen Colbert.

According to the Associated Press, write-ins for "Colbert" crushed all of NASA's four poll options, pulling in 230,539 votes; the second-place choice, NASA suggestion "Serenity" (a nod to sci-fi hero Joss Whedon) was more than 40,000 votes behind. Writer Dave Barry also threw his hat in the ring, suggesting "Buddy" as the perfect name for Node 3. But he didn't amass nearly enough support.

NC: SB 664 Rapist Protection Act

From GRNC
Few gun control proposals more clearly reveal the ultimate intention to disarm American citizens than those which punish lawful gun owners for the crimes of others. A Shooting in Oakland

Four Oakland CA Police Officers were killed yesterday in two separate incidents. The first two during a traffic stop and the second two in an attempt to apprehend the suspect. The shooter was also killed. My condolences to the officers families and co-workers. I'll even offer my condolences to the family of the shooter. The shooter got what he deserved. My regret is that he didn't get it before he killed the officers.

I expect those bloodsuckers with the Brady Campaign will try to use this incident to push for more gun control and a renewed assault weapons ban. They'll fail to mention that California is listed in their rankings as having the kinds of gun control laws they wish the rest of the states had and that said laws didn't fucking work. The shooter was a violent felon and had firearms. Enough. He should not have been released. He should not have been on parole. Had he still been incarcerated he would not have had the opportunity to have a firearm in violation of existing gun laws. The State and its courts that let him free are responsible for these shootings. Howard Nemerov covers the issue much better than I.

It hits the nail dead center.

Oakland Robbery Victims Fight Off Robbers

Oakland CA
Two armed men barged into the store around 9:30 p.m. but their plan to hit the store and run off was foiled.

Two customers and a cashier started punching the robbers. The robbers fired off shots striking the men, but they wouldn't stop fighting.

Eventually one suspect escaped but the heroes were able to hold on to one robber, grab his gun and subdue him until Oakland Police got on the scene.
...
One victim was shot in the chest, another in the neck and the last one in the arm.

The store owner says the injuries weren't serious and that they are all in good condition.

Mexico on C-Span

Tis a far far better thing...

I watched the 1935 version of Dicken’s A Tale of Two Cities a few weeks ago on Turner Classic Movies. The scene that sticks in my mind is at the end when Sydney Carton [Ronald Coleman] walks up the scaffold steps toward the guillotine with the “ Tis a far far better thing…” Y’all probably know the line. That’s not the scene I really wanted to call your attention to. That scene is the one with the kangaroo court were Charles Darnay is sentenced to death for being a member of the aristocracy: men and women howling for blood. Kinda like what we were seeing and hearing yesterday about the AIG “bonuses”. It’s a bit scary. The “bonuses” were contractual. In fact bonus is a misnomer. Compensation is a more accurate word. The AIG employees did what they had agreed to and got paid for their work. In fact when Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and others were drawing up the stimulus originally there was a bar to those bonuses. Guess who had that language removed? That would be Frank and Dodd. You think people would be directing their anger at them but no, the lynch mob wants Liddy and those with AIG who got bonuses. Frank and Dodd are leading the mob instead of running from it. Well the lynch mob voted today to tax the bonuses at 90%. I have questions as to whether that’s even constitutional but whether it was or not wouldn’t have mattered today. The majority want’s blood and by God they’re going to get it. And now that this has happened what everyone else needs to worry about is this. What happens when the mob decides you are getting paid too much by your employers? Are you ready to ascend the scaffold?

NRA on once fired brass...nothing!

What the frack is going on. I went over to the NRA website and the NRAILA to see what they had to say about their efforts to reverse the DOD's directive on the shredding of once fired brass. I found jack. I went to the GOA website and found jack. This is potentially one of the worst attacks on the 2nd and years and neither has anything on it. What's going on?
UPDATE: Via Thirdpower: Montana Shooting Sports Association reports DOD has reversed its policy on once fired brass.
I just received a phone call from the office of U.S. Senator Tester of Montana to inform me that at 5:15 (EST) today a letter cosigned by Senator Tester (D-MT) and Senator Baucus (D-MT) was faxed to the Department of Defense asking DoD to reverse its new policy requiring destruction of fired military cartridge brass. At 5:30, I am told, Tester's office received a fax back from DoD saying that the brass destruction policy IS reversed.

UPDATE: From Georgia Arms we get additional confirmation. Done until next time.

I've calmed down a bit...

so back to Paul Helmke and his lies. Wayne LaPierre said "the guys with the guns make the rules." Paul responds in a democracy "the people make the rules." Well Paul you're as fucked up as usual. LaPierre clearly meant government has the guns and so makes the rules and the only way for citizens to protect themselves from government and have an impact on those rules is to have guns as well. And Paul we are not a democracy. We are a representational Constitutional republic and our Constitution ensures that certain items are off the table whether the majority like it or not: firearms ownership, a free press, trial by jury, etc. What you're doing, Paul, with your take on Heller and reasonable restrictions, is the same damn thing you and you ilk did for the last seventy years with your collective rights interpretation of the Second Amendment. Lie.

Oh and screw civility. I'll save it for those that are worth it.

AWB and Mexico

It's clear that the Obama Administration is going to use Mexico's troubles as an excuse to push for a renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban. Liars in the ATF are claiming that 95% of the guns used by the cartels in Mexico come from the United States and any arguments to the contrary are being ignored. Then there's this over at Mike's place

Hey NRA do ya think it's maybe time to start burning a little bit of that "political capital" to try and nip this in the bud. With the momentum this Mexico meme is picking up they better get it in gear. As for the rest of us hope for the best but prepare for the worst.

Military trashing one fired brass

I've seen this or something like it in several places over the last few days. There was this post that Tam reprinted that claimed the NRA was on it and a correction was already int he works. Even if you're a gun hating liberal who wants to ban all civilian ownership of firearms the impact on law enforcement alone in the current economy is going to be terrible. I'm actually more concerned for the rest of us. This is a direct attack on the Second Amendment that is as damaging to gun owners as any renewed assault weapons ban could ever be. So I cut and pasted the letter reprinted on Mike's site signed 'em and send them to my Congressman, and two Senators. I'm pretty sure I'm wasting my breath on the Congresscritter and one Senator but ya gotta try. And who knows...maybe the NRA has already handled the problem.

Heinlein: Signs of a Sick Culture

From the Quotable Heinlein
What are the marks of a sick culture?

It is a bad sign when the people of a country stop identifying themselves with the country and start identifying with a group. A racial group. Or a religion. Or a language. Anything, as long as it isn't the whole population.

A very bad sign. Particularism. It was once considered a Spanish vice but any country can fall sick with it. Dominance of males over females seems to be one of the symptoms.

Before a revolution can take place, the population must loose faith in both the police and the courts.

High taxation is important and so is inflation of the currency and the ratio of the productive to those on the public payroll. But that's old hat; everybody knows that a country is on the skids when its income and outgo get out of balance and stay that way - even though there are always endless attempts to wish it way by legislation. But I started looking for little signs and what some call silly-season symptoms.

I want to mention one of the obvious symptoms: Violence. Muggings. Sniping. Arson. Bombing. Terrorism of any sort. Riots of course - but I suspect that little incidents of violence, pecking way at people day after day, damage a culture even more than riots that flare up and then die down. Oh, conscription and slavery and arbitrary compulsion of all sorts and imprisonment without bail and without speedy trial - but those things are obvious; all the histories list them.

I think you have missed the most alarming symptom of all. This one I shall tell you. But go back and search for it. Examine it. Sick cultures show a complex of symptoms as you have named... But a dying culture invariably exhibits personal rudeness. Bad manners. Lack of consideration for others in minor matters. A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot.

This symptom is especially serious in that an individual displaying it never thinks of it as a sign of ill health but as proof of his/her strength. Look for it. Study it. It is too late to save this culture - this worldwide culture, not just the freak show here in California. Therefore we must now prepare the monasteries for the coming Dark Age. Electronic records are too fragile; we must again have books, of stable inks and resistant paper.

John Stossel's broadside at Obama's stimulus.

These aren't exact quotes but the part that pissed me off was when Steny Hoyer [D-MD] says we had to do something because we're a democracy and polls said the majority wanted government to do something.

No twit we're a representative Constitutional republic and you are supposed to do what's best for the country whether the majority like it or not. You're one of the checks on mob rule twit. Three hundred economists say hell no and you ignore them for a poll that maybe questions one thousand a number of which can be guaranteed to pick their nose and watch Jon Stewart. Mr. Hoyer, you're supposed to do the right thing and take the hit if the majority doesn't like it come the election. But that would mean you had more concern for the nation's welfare rather than your re-election. It would also mean you had a set of balls.

Gun Control in Europe

Over in Europe they're pushing for increased gun control in the wake of the school shooting in Germany.
_Finland announced plans Wednesday to impose stricter restrictions on firearms, including raising the minimum age for handgun ownership from 15 to 20. The proposal was prompted by two school massacres within a year in which lone gunmen opened fire on classmates and teachers.
_Germany, where a gunman killed at least 11 people Wednesday, raised the legal age for owning recreational firearms from 18 to 21 following a 2002 shooting in Erfurt that killed 16 people, including 12 teachers.
_Belgian lawmakers passed strict new gun control laws in 2006 in reaction to the racially motivated shooting deaths of a toddler and her black baby sitter in Antwerp.
_Swiss citizens are demanding a referendum aimed at confining army weapons to military compounds and banning private purchases of pump-action rifles and automatic weapons — following a spate of suicides and homicides.
_The Portuguese Parliament is currently discussing a government proposal to tighten gun laws, including denying bail to anyone suspected of a gun crime.
_Denmark's government said last week it will raise the penalty for illegal gun possession as part of a crackdown on gang violence that has killed three people and injured 25 in recent months.
_European Union lawmakers proposed tighter gun control across the bloc last year, including guidelines saying that only people over 18 not deemed a threat to public safety could buy and keep guns. EU members have until 2010 to adopt the measures.
I'd like to make some snide comment on expecting no less in Europe but then it's kinda hard when in places like California, Massachusetts, New York City, and Chicago many of the changes Europe is considering already exist.

Guns and Mexico

With aid and comfort from the US press the Mexican Ambassador and Government of Mexico keep pushing the meme that Mexico's problems with the cartels are the fault of the US gun culture.
Mexico's ambassador to the United States, Arturo Sarukhan, has noted that as many as 2,000 weapons enter Mexico from the U.S. every day -- most of them through Texas and Arizona, and many of them are purchased legally at gun shows and gun stores.
but some in the US Press are opening their eyes a bit.
Most of these weapons are being smuggled from Central American countries or by sea, eluding U.S. and Mexican monitors who are focused on the smuggling of semiauto- matic and conventional weapons purchased from dealers in the U.S. border states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Cigarette Loads

I loved these things growing up. My brother smoked and every morning he'd get up and call Mom at work and light up. He had a habit of leaving his smokes laying around. Once I took a couple out of the pack, pulled some tobacco out, placed the loads and repacked the tobacco over them. I went my way. Later my Mom told me that Bill called and while they talked she heard a small pop in the background then some profanity. Gotcha. Every time I see an ad for these things I get a warm fuzzy feeling.

Do you have to ride the short bus to get to Congress?

Legislators in Southwestern states concerned about drug violence in Mexico spilling across the border recommended tighter gun control and stronger law enforcement yesterday.
Let's tighten gun control along the border and make it harder for U.S. Citizens to get guns and ammo to defend themselves from drug violence coming over the border. Why? Because of the unproven assertion that the machine guns and grenades being used in the ongoing drug war are being sold by gun shops in the southwestern states. Why would a drug lord on Forbes list of billionaires buy from local gun shops when bribes to the Mexican police and military have oh much less paperwork?

Anthony Martin over at the Columbia Conservative Examiner has a few things to say about this change in message. I agree. It's kinda hard to argue that we need to change health care, energy, and education and more importantly pay for it, if the economy is about to go tits up. So the economy has to get better so President Obama can push his agenda. What that means though is that he was either lying about the crisis or he is lying about the situation not being "as bad as we think". So President Obama since things are "not as bad as we think" would it be possible to put a hold on that trillion dollar pork bill y'all passed to stimulate the economy since its apparently recovering just fine without it? That's what I thought.

What the ...

Every once in a while, and way too often lately, you read a story that raises the question what the fuck? A learning disabled 16 year old in Rosemount Minnesota found a bag of $18,000 in a ditch on the side of the road and took it. He gave $11.000 of it away to fellow students and a teacher's aid. The aid found the money tucked in her bag and reported it to police who investigated and collected the money from the students. The 16 year old showed the police where he found the money and they found marijuana and scales. It turns out it was abandoned drug money. Should the kid have kept the money? No, but this is the bit that gets a big WTF.
The boy is not expected to face charges. A sheriff's deputy says he's "a good kid" who was trying to help people in need.
What, Mister Deputy, would you charge him with? What crime did he commit? Larceny? Wouldn't the drug dealer have to file that complaint? Maybe failing to turn found drug money over to the Sheriff's Department so y'all can add it to your budget through civil forfeiture? That sounds about right. Yeah, go arrest him.

Not guilty? Amazing...

I had the shotgun to deter him from going any further. I thought of putting a shot in the air, but I didn’t intend to aim a shot at him.

“Clements said: ‘I’ll get my gun out before you can raise them barrels.’

Mr Batchelor told the court that Mr Clements had “smashed into the window”, knocking him backwards.

“I fell back and snatched at the trigger and the gun has gone off,” he said.

An armed intruder broke Kenneth Batchelor's home with the intent to do him harm and by sheer luck Batchelor shot and killed the intruder. His luck continued because the jury found him not guilty. Why was this luck? In North Carolina he wouldn't have even been charged. This took place in England where I thought self-defense was essentially illegal. Jury nullification? I doubt it. My vote stays with sheer luck.

Scum

I knew they couldn't resist. It's like a Palovian necessity for this trash. People die and they just have to try to capitalize on the tragedy of others to push their political agenda, and in doing so they prove themselves the lowest sort of scum.
The answer to gun violence is not more guns. Alabama has one of the highest gun ownership rates in the nation -- more than 57 percent of
the state's households have guns -- and some of the weakest gun laws in the country.
And Illinois has some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country and yet a pastor was murdered in his own church with a semi-automatic pistol, or should I call it an assault pistol, despite those laws. In Germany 15 people were shot to death despite restrictive gun laws. Yeah I know, they're not restrictive enough. Truth is they don't work and as I said your need to capitalize on the tragedy of others shows you for the sons of bitches you are.

15 Dead in Germany

A gunman killed 15 people in a shooting spree in two small towns near Stuttgart, Germany, officers say.
Another shooting with 15 dead. The shootings took place in a local school. The shooter was shot by police. they don't know if the fatal wounds were from police or self-inflicted. He obtained the weapon from his father's collection. According to the story Germany has fairly restrict gun laws that require the owner to keep them secured. I also hazard a guess that carrying a weapon for self-defense is prohibited and that the schools are gun free zones. So how'd that work out for you?

Signed in blood

So that deal with the devil isn't binding. What a relief.

Fight a cop and...walk.

You sneak around the back yard of a neighbor, then fight police with enough ferocity that it takes several officers to subdue you and you walk Why? You're a drunk sheriff's deputy with no criminal record but a previous history of resisting the law regardless of conviction. Mr. Prosecutor a question please? Would Joe Blow off the street and without a badge have walked? Mr. Sheriff? What would your reaction to the prosecutor been if it had been a citizen and the officers he fought your deputies and said citizen took a walk? Maybe Spokane County works on a three strikes and your out run for LEOs but I think we all know the answer to those questions. Does Washington State have a Training and Standards division for their LEOs? If so they need to take a look at Spokane County Sheriff's Sergeant Pete Bunch.

Another mass shooting

A gunman went on a shooting spree in two neighboring south Alabama towns Tuesday, killing nine people before he shot himself at a metals plant
Here is another report and another. With this, the second shooting this week, I'm expecting the usual suspects to start trying to capitalize on the tragedies to push their agenda. My hope is that they will hold off and give the victim's families time to grieve before they become the latest poster children for gun control.

Another DC lawsuit

SAF CHALLENGES D.C. HANDGUN BAN SCHEME

The DC government response to Heller was to continue to prohibit possession by DC residents as they could manage. Mr. Gura and the Second Amendment Foundation are going to stick it to them again. One plaintiff was refused because her gun was the wrong color and therefore unsafe. And the quote of the day is...
Do we really need a gun-fashion police?

Paster Shot and Killed in Church

Gunman Kills Pastor in Illinois Church
MARYVILLE, Ill. (March 8) -- A pastor shot and killed during his Sunday sermon deflected the first of the gunman's four rounds with a Bible, sending a confetti-like spray of paper into the air in a horrifying scene that congregants initially thought was a skit, police said.

Two congregants tackled the gunman as he pulled the 4-inch knife, and all three were stabbed, police said. The gunman suffered "a pretty serious wound to the neck" while one congregant had lower back wounds...
My condolences to the paster's family and the members of the church.

NC: Hickory Shooting May Have Been Self-Defense

From WSOCTV.com

The text story is a bit misleading but the video makes it clear that a bad guy tried to enter a house with a shotgun to do crime and was, in turn, shot. The bad guy survived and the matter is under investigation by local police.
Terry Lee Atkins was shot in the chest and then went to two homes nearby looking for help.
Either the victim didn't have enough gun or he/she needs to spend more time at the range and tighten his/her group. In any event, his/her efforts were good enough and, for a short time at least, we have one less son of a bitch roaming the streets.

The Wrath of the NRA

Sounds like a bad George Lucas film. The eviiiil all powerful National Rifle Association is forcing those poor misfotunates in Congress to their bidding and depriving the poor unfortunate residents of DC from their right to vote. I wish the NRA had the influence these twits claim it has. I truely do because then we wouldn't have to constantly fight moronic gits like Vincent Gray, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Caroline McCarthy for our second amendment rights. If the NRA had the pwer they imply gun control would be a moot issue. Giving DC a voting representative in the House is unconstitutional. anyone in the District that wants the vote can move outside the district. Killing that bill by forcing the Congress to chose between the franchise and removing restrctions on the Second Amendment is appropriate and funny as hell.

A local Mayor Against Guns

So I was looking at the website for Mayors Against Illegal Guns for another post and found this.

"Gun violence is a non-partisan issue. All citizens need to know what a terrible impact that guns in general, and illegal guns specifically, have and how they are contributing to the violence in our communities."

--Mayor William "Bill" Bell, Durham, NC

I should have a figured he was a member. Asshole.

Oh and while I'm on the subject I guess it's too much to expect any honesty from the Mayors. If there were any they'd call the organization Mayors Against Guns.

Not advisable indeed

I believe it was in the movie Code of Silence starring Chuck Norris where two guys walk into a bar to rob it only to find it full of cops. Needless to say it turned out badly for them. This is just that stupid. It a gun shop you git. You think maybe the clerk's not packing?

Look before you leap

The SunSentinel reported the police officer's
...report, Ortiz yelled at the officers from the elevator when they tried to break up the disturbance.

Ortiz "walked right up to me hitting his nose to my nose," Lade wrote, adding that he pushed Ortiz.

"As I approached Ortiz to take him into custody, Ortiz spun around to face me and assumed a fighting stance (both left and right hand clenched into fists and body bladed)," he wrote.
But when the Prosecutor saw this video he first reduced the charge then dismissed it as an unprosecutable case. The victim's attorney commented
the officers embellished their reports to justify their aggression without knowing the videotape existed.
The Fort Lauderdale Police Internal Affairs unit investigated the matter and gave the officers a pass: no violations of policy or procedure. Embellishing the facts or lying in a police report was apparently not a violation of policy or procedure.

To the cops I suggest you look before you leap because, in this day and age, you never know who's looking.

Mayors Against Guns

Here are more lies and disinformation pposted at Jacksonville.com from the usual suspects: Manuel Diaz, John Peyton, and Michael Bloomberg. Ya know, Mayors Against Illegal Guns.
Most of the guns used in crimes are purchased and possessed illegally, often by people with criminal records.
True but your proposals like all gun control measures don't effect the criminals ability to obtain a gun. They prevent law abiding citizens from buying guns. Lip service aside your goal is to make it impossible for any private citizen to own a firearm unless they are filthy rich or a celebrity.
The vast majority of Americans and gun owners support efforts to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but the issue is stuck in the muck of Washington politics.
Yes most people want to keep guns out of the hands of felons but not at their own expense.
But mayors from around the country aren't waiting for federal action.
No they're hiring private detectives to violate Federal law by making straw purchases in an attempt to entrap gun shops into selling guns illegally. That would be you Michael.
If the nation's local police officers - nearly 500,000 strong - had full access to this data, we could map the illegal gun trafficking market and direct police resources to the small percentage of irresponsible dealers fueling it.
They do have full access you fucks. Law Enforcement can access the trace date through the ATF. You Mayors on the other hand do not have that access and I can really see where that might piss you off since it kinda puts a stumbling block in the way of your attempts to put gun shops out of business through endless litigation.
But there is a glaring loophole in the law: Background checks are not required at gun shows, in too many instances. This means that criminals can easily purchase guns at gun shows - no questions asked.
Oh this would be the "gun shop loophole". You lie. Gun dealers are required to run a NICS check for all sales at all gun shows just like out of their stores. Your intent is to end is private sales that may or may not occur at a gun show. You want to force private gun owners to sell their personal property through a third party so you can track it.
End the fire sales: The ATF rarely shuts down dealers for violations of the law, but when it does, those dealers are permitted to sell off their inventory - without doing background checks!
This is a new one to me. To my knowledge all sales to individuals have to go through the NICS system, and the idea that the BATFE would turn a blind eye to such sales is an insult to an agency that is all too easily rightfully insulted. I would assume that you are referring to sales to other dealers which would not require a background check. I admit my knowledge on this one is lacking but this claim like most of the others here doesn't pass the smell test. These twits think that if they continually spout the same lies that we'll start to believe them and cooperate. Ain't gonna happen...ever.

Surprise Asteroid Makes Near-Miss of Earth

A small asteroid buzzed by Earth Monday, though only real astronomy geeks in the Pacific would have noticed.

The rock, estimated to be no more than 200 feet wide, zoomed past our planet at an altitude of 40,000 miles at 1:44 p.m. universal time — or 8:44 EST.
Ok, get off my ass, buy rifle and ammo, hunker down, Lucifer's Hammer is coming.

Quote of the Day

From Radley Balko, the Agitator
Speaking of drug war violence in Mexico, Arizona’s attorney general kinda’, sorta’, almost brings himself to say it might possibly be time to at least start talking about the possibility of opening up a debate on . . . legalizing marijuana. I think I put enough caveats in there.
This is the story to which he was referring.

Where do Mexico's guns come from?

According to the main stream media and our trustworthy Attorney General, Mexico's violence problem is the sole responsibility of evil assault weapons purchased in the United States and smuggled across the border into Mexico by the drug cartels. Well here is another point of view. I know. this piece is "anecdotal", but unlike the stories in the news that have the aroma of bullshit. This has the ring of truth.
Mexico has a gun problem, just like they have a drug problem and both the U.S. and Mexican governments are trying to place the blame on U.S. gun owners. U.S. gun owners aren't the problem. Mexico is the problem. The government is corrupt from the lowest level law enforcement officer shaking down American tourists for traffic violations, to officials and politicians highly placed within the Mexican government, including elements within the military. Everyone knows it. Everyone in Mexico knows it. Every law enforcement official in the U.S. knows it, and everyone in our government knows it. And anyone who has worked for any length of time within border cities and lived in the local community knows it. This is taking a Mexican problem, blaming the U.S. by turning it into a crisis in order further an agenda, and Eric Holder and President Obama knows it and they are taking advantage of it.

...the fight is upon us.

Today's post over at Michael Bane's blog is some interesting thoughts on the AWB. In short, Obama will push for the ban and thinks it's a done deal. Reid And Pelosi's comments mean only that they don't have the votes yet. It's coming. Arrogance does equal stupidity.

VA: Gov plans to veto concealed carry in restaurants.

The Virginia General Assembly recently passed a law that would allow concealed carry permit holders to carry inside restaurants that serve alcohol.
Gov. Timothy M. Kaine said today he would veto legislation passed by the General Assembly yesterday that would allow holders of concealed weapons permits to bring their hidden guns into establishments that serve alcohol. “I’m very nervous about the public safety impact of that bill,“ the governor said...
There seems to be this meme going around among gun haters that we can't trust concealed carry permit holders inside restaurants that serve alcohol. Ya know they get drunk and shoot the place up. The fact is there is nothing to stop permit holders getting drunk someplace other than a restaurant and shooting the place up but ya know what? It hasn't happened. Concealed Carry Permit Holders are responsible Gov. Kaine and aren't likely to drink and carry anymore than they are drink and drive. If you don't have it already up there in Virginia, why don't ya'll pass a law that prohibits anyone from carrying a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and let those that do carry go into restaurants that serve alcohol as long as they don't imbibe? What? Not reasonable enough for ya?

Two sides to the story my ass

Here's the raw surveillance video of an assault on a in custody fifteen year old girl by a deputy.

You can go here to see the same video presented by local news complete with talking heads. One of the journalists comments that the deputy's attorney said that the video doesn't show both sides of the story.

There is no other side to the story. That fifteen year old girl was no threat to two properly trained deputies. They could have taken her down without that level of violence. There is no excuse for the actions of the deputy. None. His buddy who stood there with his thumb up his ass while his friend carried out the assault is just as guilty. They committed a crime and violated the public trust. A court needs to introduce both of them to a new environment behind bars. May be bubba will be sympathetic. I'm not.
