This is a Problem

As More Retailers Ban Paper Money, It's Making Things Awkward For Customers Without Plastic
I don't want to live in a cashless society. I use my debit card most of the time but I want the option not to. Some dipshits will say, "well if you've got nothing to hide..." Not the point. It's my business how I spend my money and why. It's legal tender for a reason. A business that doesn't give me the option of cash doesn't get my business. Yes, I'm old and grumpy damn it.

This Should Surprise No One

Gun Owners Don't Seem Eager to Comply With New Jersey's New Magazine Ban
Neither should the contents of the second half of the article in which New Jersey Law Enforcement officials bitch that the magazine restrictions apply to them as well and place their officer at risk. No problem. The NJ Legislature is gonna fix it for them 'cuz they're special and can be trusted with an extra five bullets unlike the rest of New Jersey.

Firefly: Big Damn Hero by James Lovegrove

I'm a big fan of Whedon's Firefly if not Whedon himself. It's hard to comprehend how someone can produce such freedom centered product and be such a hateful progressive dick. That aside, the book gets the feel of the characters right. It picks up after the last episode of the series. We learn a little more about Book and Mal's background. Hopefully as the novels progress the questions raised in the series and not answered in the movie will be answered. We can but hope. If you are a Firefly fan you will like the book. If not, you'll be lost. Watch the series and movie first. Enjoy.

I'm Pretty Sure There was a Finger Involved...

...here.

A cop was handling a personal weapon at a party when he shot himself in the hand and a fellow officer in the leg.

Prince George’s Co. police officers released from suspension after party shooting
The story says the gun discharged. I doubt it did it by itself. These things generally involved a finger on the trigger of a loaded weapon. Looks like all four of the Colonel's rules were broken and then some.

Not. One. Bit.

Two LSU football players meet some dude to sell him a piece of electronics. The dude pulled a gun on them to rob them. He dies when one of the players shot him in self-defense. The dude was eighteen years old. THAT's the story I read based on the facts presented. An eighteen year old thug dies while committing a robbery. The stories I've read tend to emphasize the part about the football players shooting the dude while de-emphasizing the fact that it appears to be a clear case of self-defense. One radio news outlet even called the dude a victim. He isn't a victim of anydamnthing. He a criminal shot in the commission of a crime. He a criminal shot in the commission of a violent felony. I'm sorry for the football player who had to shoot him. I'm even sorry for the criminal's family and their loss. I'm not sorry for the criminal who pulled a gun on the wrong person.

Theft Under Color of Law

In Vermont two kids planned a school shooting spree but where found out before they could carry it out. One of the kids had planned to steal a relative's firearms to carry out the spree. The local police used Vermont's Red Flag law to seize the relative's guns when the kids had been identified and were in custody. The relative wasn't a co-conspirator. His guns were not a threat to anyone. The kids were in custody. Is this the abuse gun owners can come to expect from police and anti-gun bigots in the future? Yeah, I know. Dumb question. Mikey Bloomberg's The Trace considers this a sucess so the question answers itself. This is theft under color of law.

In Plain Sight and Dead Letter by Dan Willis

PIs and magic in 1930s New York City. It's pretty good detective noir with a rational system of magic factored in. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in the series. Highly Recommended.

[UPDATE] Note: It looks like the only way to get Dead Letter is buy In Plain Sight and give it a review. Willis will then email you the novella. It's well worth a few minutes of your time.

Wildfire by Kurt Schlicter

The third Kelly Turnbull novel takes our hero to the People's Republic, Germany, then back to the People's Republic in an attempt to thwart a Jihadi bioterror plot against the blue states. The details you'll have to find out for yourself. Like his previous books this one is highly recommended. Go buy it and enjoy.

Indian Country by Kurt Schlicter

That was quick. This is book two in Schlicter's Kelly Turnbull series. It is a prequel to People's Republic. In the first novel there is a mention to Turnbull's time in Indian Country, or southern Indiana, after the Split. He's sent in to provide the local the knowledge to resist. Mostly, they have the means. They were buries in the woods before the secret police could confiscate them. Oh, and all hell does break loose. Schlicter's third book is already out and I'm well into it. Highly recommended.

People's Republic by Kurt Schlicter
Schlicter is a conservative pundit and retired military. It shows in this novel of a future where the United States has divided into red and blue with the blue a hellhole of progressive SJW nonsense. The story involves a contractor hired to enter California and rescue a billionaires daughter. You get a good look at life in a socialist utopia and it's funny. It won't be to anyone on the Left but f**k 'em if they can't take a joke. I liked it so much I'm currently reading the sequel/prequel. Highly recommended.

A Pillar of Fire by Night by Tom Kratman

This is the seventh in Kratman's Carerra series. I liked it but had a hard time remembering what had gone before. It been three years since the last book. I probably needed to go back and refresh my memory with the previous novels except.... I did like it and look forward to the final volume in the series. Hopefully it won't be another three and a half years until it comes out.

The Valley of Shadows by John Ringo and Mike Massa

This is the latest in Ringo's Black Tide Rising series. It covers the initial stages of the plague. It covers much of the same material as the firdt half of the original novel but from the perspective of the Smith girls' uncle. I liked it as much as the others in the series and recommend it highly.
