NRA Carry Guard
You can be right in every respect when you use your firearm in self-defense and the process will still destroy you. The prices seem reasonable, and this looks like a good deal.

Gunfight at a Shoe Store

In Nashville. three bad guys burst through the rear door of a shoe store with guns blazing to be met by customer returning fire. He scored hits on all three bad guys; killing one and wounding the remaining two. Damned impressive or lucky. Doesn't matter. The good guys won out.

Kill Shot by Vince Flynn

This follows up American Assassin and we get Mitch Rapp one year later. He walks into an ambush and finds himself on the run trying to determine who betrayed him. Good stuff and highly recommended. Damn shame there won't be more.

Whose side are you guys on?

Is The Republican Majority In NC Using Democrat Roy Cooper For Cover On Gun Rights?
There is pending gun legislation in the North Carolina House that appears to be stalled. The Republican Caucus' excuse is Gov Cooper will veto. That's bullshit. They have a veto proof majority. I think the more likely reason is the North Carolina Sheriff's Association is opposed and elements in the Caucus give them whatever they want. In any event, if the Republicans screw us the need to return the favor and we need to let them know we will. Links to call and email your representatives are here. Give 'em a call and let them know they can't take us for granted and if they are gonna stab us in the back we might as well step out of the next election. See how that works for them.

American Assassin by Vince Flynn

I was a big fan of Vince Flynn early in his career bu the enthusiasm lessened until at about 2/3s of the way through the Mitch Rapp novels I stopped reading them. I always intended to get back to them but never did. I saw the trailer for the film adaptation and decided to look the novel up. Mostly I wanted to see where the Hollywood Leftists decided to muck with conservative Flynn's vision. Not too much from what I can tell in comparing the novel and trailer. BUT first, the novel is great. We get how Rapp entered the arena of international espionage. It is every bit as good as I remember from Flynn's earlier books. It has a nice lean story, well rounded characters, and good action. It a good read. If you haven't, do so. Back to the movie. the only comment I'm going to make short of seeing the movie is on the casting of Michael Keaton as Stan Hurley. I didn't see it at first. then I got the last quarter of the novel. no spoilers but Keaton is perfectly cast. If certain portions of the novel make it into the movies he's damned perfect.

Challenges of the Deeps by Ryk E. Spoor

This is the third in Spoor's Grand Central Arena series. It is a great book. I loved it and hope for more. If you liked the first two, you'll like these. If you haven't read the first two, you need to before you read this. The synopsis at the beginning tries to make up the difference, it isn't the same.

More Zero Tolerence BS

In Alabama, a young girl is given a water gun by a male student. Another students sees it and not knowing it was a water gun reports the incident to the administration. The girl admitted she had it and got expelled for a year as a result. Seems a tad excessive to me. Zero Tolerance. What School Administrators do instead of something useful.

It would be interesting to see the Supreme Court's take on this...

...now that we have a new Associate Justice.
Why Liberals Should Be Alarmed That Courts Are Eroding The Second Amendment.

It might be tempting for liberals to view these cases through the lens of gun control and favor the state or for conservatives to see them as a question of law and order and support the officers. Both sides should resist the temptation. A rule that allows cops to search or seize individuals for carrying a gun can only lead to more brutality against young black men like Philando Castile. It also permits officers to trample upon our rights to property and self-defense. These are constitutional values, not partisan ones. And advocates across the ideological spectrum should urge the courts to follow the First District’s lead and reject the disastrous illogic now developing in the federal circuits.

It's what they do...

In the case of the Demanding EveryMoms, that would be lie. NC Senate Bill 503 does not remove the requirement for a background check with the purchase of a pistol. It would still require purchases go through the Federal NICS check which is a Federal background check. What it does is take NC Sheriff's out of the equation turning the North Carolina process into a "shall issue" process. Some NC Sheriff's disapprove of the change because it eliminates their ability to delay or deny permits.
Here’s why critics are taking aim at a new N.C. gun bill
As to why critics are opposing SB 503? They want to take our guns. If they can't do that, they're happy with putting or maintaining as many roadblocks to the purchase process as they can manage. Anything else they claim is bullshit.

Going Nuclear

Republicans go ‘nuclear,’ bust through Democratic filibuster on Gorsuch
Schumer is "worried" for the consequences of this change. He wasn't worried when Harry Reid did the same on lower court nominations, or if he was , it didn't stop him voting for it. If there are any conservative Justices that want to retire, now would seem to be the time to do it.

Witchy Eye by D. J. Butler

I loved this book and am looking forward to, I hope, a sequel. Butler gives us an alternative America around 1820, I guess, where the United States never formed, magic exists, and a young backwoods girl seeks the restoration of her throne. It feels a lot like the Silver John stories of Manley Wade Wellman and that's about the greatest complement I can give it. Highly Recommended.

The Problem Isn't Diversity

Marvel Comics Exec Claims Focus on ‘Diversity’ Behind Falling Sales
Comic fans are happy to see new heroes or all sorts. We're open to new African-American, female or LGBT characters. Be imaginative. Try 'em out and see how they fly. The problem is that's not good enough. MARVEL feels the need to diversify old core heroes like Iron Man, Thor, and Spider-Man. Older fans don't like it and stop buying. Iron Man is Tony Stark and anything else is unacceptable.

Educational Idiocracy

4-Year-Old Brings Shell Casing to Preschool. Principal Suspends Him for 7 Days, Calls Child Services.
A four year old took a shell casing to school and when it was discovered found himself expelled for seven days and told "that if his "enthusiasm for guns continued," he would be expelled." He also apparently likes to pretend his toys are guns. Where that my child, the Principal would have been asked some pointed questions about where she got telling me how to raise my child, and told an "enthusiasm" for guns was a damn good thing. I'd have probably been arrested. There were several reasons my kids where home schooled. This is but one.

The mother of the four year old was more restrained and told her story on Facebook where it went viral and hopefully embarrassed and brought discredit to the staff of A Place for Growth. Honestly the name of the school should have been a clue. Zero tolerance, it's what bureaucrats do instead of something useful.
