Motorists' habits spur call for tax increases

We are driving less and burning less gas and the consequence is that tax revenues are down. So the FED wants to increase gas taxes to fund the cost of highways, bridges and transit programs. By 50% no less. No. If there is less use there shouldbe less wear and tear and less expense. It is not the FEDs responsibility to subsidize the highway contruction business with my tax money. Reprioritize the current slate of projects and get by with what you've got. Lets try something novel. cut unnecessary projects and spend less. Or better yet forgo the Congressional pay raise and put that money toward the roads.
