Go Nuclear

NRA Applauds Neil Gorsuch's Nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court
That endorsement s good enough for me. The problem now is the Democrats are going to filibuster this and any other nomination. If they ever get the White House back, they'll kill the filibuster for their nominees. They've already said as much. Time for the Republicans to play ball by the same rules. Give the Democrats the opportunity to extend the same courtesy the Republicans extended them on Kagan and Sotomeyer. If they flip the right the bird then...

Fight hard. Fight dirty.

Levon's Trade by Chuck Dixon

LEvon is former spec ops. When his boss' daughter disappears he asked to look into the matter. He does and it goes downhill fro there. Excellent book. Chuck Dixon is known primarily as a writer of comic books. He wrote The Punisher, Winterworld, Batman, and a number of others. Now he is writing novels. This is a good thing. Highly recommended.

This is the first in Larson's Star Force series. Earth is invaded and it goes downhill from there. I liked it enough that I'll read more of his stuff, of which there is plenty, but not right now. I've just picked up a Chuck Dixon novel. Gotta read that first.

Seizure of Black Panther Weapons Invites Examination of Second Amendment Convictions

We all have the right to keep and bear arms. The truth that ought to apply equally to all of us is, if we abuse that right, if we threaten or if we cause harm through unjustified force, others have the right to stop us.
As much as I dislike the ideology of these racist a$$holes, I have to support their right to bear arms if I'm gonna be consistent in my beliefs. As long as they don't initiate force against another, they have the same right to keep and bear arms I do. They should sue.

Business As Usual for Obama

Obama Issued A Massive Ammunition Ban Just One Day Before He Left Office
No lead ammunition on Federal lands. So the expense of hunting on Federal lands or using public ranges on them shoots up. This is the ban the EPA couldn't legally implement. Gun control from the flank. Business as usual for the Obama Administration. Trump can reverse this easily enough and should.

Congress to Review Obama's Social Security Gun Grab

The National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action (NRA-ILA) today scored a victory when Congress agreed to review, and likely revoke, a final rule by the Obama administration that would blindly strip law-abiding Americans of their Second Amendment rights.

“Congress's decision to review the Obama administration's back-door gun grab is a significant step forward in protecting a fundamental constitutional right for law-abiding gun owners,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director, NRA-ILA. "The NRA has been fighting this unconstitutional government overreach since it was first discussed and we look forward to swift congressional action."

That's what I call a good START.

Yep

Personally, I think the MHS contest could have been as satisfactorily resolved by throwing a P320, an M&P, and a Glock 17 into a sack, spinning it around a few times, and reaching in and pulling one out. They all work fine, and if there's a less crucial weapon in modern warfare than the pistol, it probably attaches to bayonet lugs. - Tam

I've read two of Buettner's other novels and liked them. I didn't know what to expect from this one and was pleasantly surprised. It was a nice mystery with science-fiction elements that really didn't come to light until the final chapters and turned my guesses as to where it was going upside down. More please.

One Hundred and Sixty-Two Years Ago Today...

...John Moses Browning was born.

Well That Was Useless

Officials at most of Ohio's public and private colleges have decided the best action regarding a new state law allowing permit holders to carry a concealed firearm on campus is no action.

Senate Bill 199, signed by Gov. John Kasich on Dec. 19 lifted the blanket prohibition on firearms but only if a college's board of trustees agreed to allow concealed carry on campus.

The only way liberal academia would allow concealed carry on campus would be if it were mandated. Whoever wrote this stupid law had to know that. The only conclusion is that this result was the intention. They get to look good to gun owners at no expense to themselves. They think gun owners are stupid. Time to kick the politicians behind this to the curb and start over.

There's a New Sheriff in Town

Majority of 230 protesters arrested on Inauguration Day will face 10 years in prison and $25k fine as US attorney says they will be charged with felony rioting
They should have the full weight of the law fall on them as a sign to their fellow travelers that you don't get a free ride on a tantrum when you don't get your way. Truthfully, I'd be surprised if any actually get more than probation and a small fine. That they were arrested at all indicates to me a positive change.

1636: The Ottoman Onslaught by Eric Flint

If you haven'r read any of Eric Flint's 1632 series you need to start with the first, 1632. The ebook is free online from Baen. Starting with this book would be a waste of time. There's way too much history to plop right into this end of the story and not be lost. Other than that it is another excellent addition to the series and first by Flint alone in awhile. My only complaint is that it ends abruptly, cliffhanger, and the next book in the series is a few months out. Not much of a complaint really. I recommend the series and all it's books highly.

More on my Dad

From my earliest memory, my Dad drove a truck for Scott and Roberts Dry Cleaning. He picked up laundry and dry cleaning from customer's homes then returned it later in the week once it had been cleaned. He liked his job. He liked the people he serviced. He was working the day he died. This is a picture of the plant out of which he worked. I spent a lot of time around this place growing up. Now it contains office space. It's a historical landmark, of all things, because of the architecture. My Dad worked for Johnson-Forester Dry Cleaning before World War 2 and when he met my Mom. After the war Dad returned to that job, then switched to selling life insurance for Durham Life. I think it was sometime before I was born that he returned to the dry cleaning trade and Scott and Roberts. The only reference online I can find for Johnson-Forester is in an obituary for a former employee.

Arizona trooper shot in ambush attack; Good Samaritan kills gunman
The Good Samaritan came up int eh incident while the assailant and trooper were struggling on the ground. The Good Samaritan ordered the assailant to stop and when he didn't went to his car, got his gun, and shot the bad guy. I think there is little doubt he saved the Trooper's life. Lucky there was a good man with a gun available to help.

Storm Front by Robert Conroy

This is, I understand, Mr. Conroy's last novel. It is not one of his alternate history novels but a disaster novel. It's OK. It didn't grab as did his other novels. It follows his usual template. Boy meets girl and falls in love amid turmoil of history/disaster. As I said I liked it. If I had to give it a number between one and five, it would be a three and a half.

UPDATE: NOT his last. At least one more to come in June from Baen. It's co-authored by J. R. Dunn and titled The Day After Gettysburg.

The first novel by Smith I read was The Probability Broach. Since then I read almost everything he's written. This is a prequel to his Forge of the Elders which was a collection and , I guess, revision of three previous novels. I liked it. I don't get nearly enough from Smith. We get the tale of how Misterthoggosh and Eichra Oren first meet. I'm looking forward to more.

In a couple of days we'll find that most of what they think they know will be wrong. AND the gun control crowd will dance in the blood of the victims to push their agenda like the scum they are.
