NC H956 – Regulate Ownership of Aggressive Dog Breeds

This bill would require a permit to purchase a Pit Bull [all flavors], Rottweiler, Mastiff, Chow, Perro de Presa Canario and wolf hybrids. To get the permit you'd have to undergo a background check by the local Sheriff, a training class, and obtain insurance. The permit would be issued by the Department of Insurance. The bill doesn't set the criteria under which a permit would be approved or denied. Whether this permit would be shall issue or may issue isn't addressed. In my experience whether dogs are aggressive is a matter of nurture not nature and truthfully I'm opposed on principle with the government telling me to do anything much less what breed of dog I can own.

This is nanny state bullshit. It also smells of an attempt to target certain demographics much like gun control did in years past*. This bill would also impact those with lower incomes unable to afford the permits and insurance. Again, it's targeting certain demographics. Maybe I'm jumping the shark a bit on some of this but, the nanny state requires opposition whenever it rears it's ugly head. This bill needs to die. Call your representatives and tell them what you want.

Sean has the bill's language here.

 *That's code. Figure it out.

In [formerly] Great Britain...

Call for ban on sale of gun magazines to children gets massive public support
...Gun Magazines = Pornography.

If they aren't at the bottom of the slippery slope they are damn well near it.

In Formerly Great Britain...

...the NHS in Manchester has banned the use of paperclips by its employees. Why? One employee cut her finger on one.

Give me a second...1...2...3...

Holy Jumping Jehoshaphat. You've got to be f#$&ing kidding me! THIS is yet one more reason it's formerly Great Britain.

Actually, when I read the Cajun's post my first thought was it had to be a joke. It's not.

You've got to be kidding me...

If a result of the tragedy at Aurora, CO is policies requiring the patting down or metal screening of customers prior to seeing a movie, then I've seen my last movie in a theater. I can see it coming since neither action would have prevented [redacted] from doing a damn thing he did Friday morning, but somebody HAS to respond to show they are doing something.

Update: A name redacted.

The current mayor and...

Nanny State Bushwah!

Florida May Ban Chocolate Milk From Schools

I know this is kinda hard for certain statist twits to figure out since they equate winning an election with elevation to godhood, but my kid, my decision. I'll decide what they may and may not eat. My choices may parallel what emerges from your bureaucratic circlejerk, but it may not. And if they doesn't that's my choice as the parent. NOT yours.

There's a bill in Congress that...

...would require ISPs to keep records of where their customers surf the web. Child pornography is the excuse given but can you really imagine the Federal Government being able to keep their sticky fingers out of the data if some Federal Agency suddenly discovers a need. I mean, it'd probably be very helpful in investigations of copyright infringement and harassment of the political opposition. This is just another fucking slippery slope and child pornography is just the excuse. Enough already. More here.

I saw this quote...

...posted over at Popehat.
When people are doing things that are detrimental to their own well being, then government should step in -- New York State Senator Karl Kruger
Kruger is apparently involved in legislation to restrict the insanity called distracted walking. I really don’t intend this as violent threatening rhetoric, but I think elected fuckwits that engage in legislative activity that is detrimental to the personal freedoms of those they were elected to serve should be stripped naked, smeared with honey, hogtied, then dropped into Jellystone so Yogi and Boo Boo can have their way with them.

Just saying…

Evolution in Action

Apparently Legislators in various States have decided distracted walking or biking like driving while texting is a problem that needs their attention. Bicyclists listen to their iPods instead of paying attention to traffic. Pedestrians talk or text on their phones and step in front of a car as they cross the street. What is it with these nanny state politicians that they fell obligated to save us from ourselves? What the frack ever happened to individual responsibility. When people choose to do stupid things there is a result. And there is a term that has come to characterize that result.

Darwinism

I would hope that Legislators who feel the need to protect me from myself and build the nanny state might find themselves looking for new opportunities come election time, and that’s Darwinism as well.

So much for the First Amendment...

After the Giffords shooting in Tucson, TJIC, a Massachusetts blogger, posted a comment to the effect of 1 down 538 to go. Under the circumstances that's a bit insentsitive, but it's not illegal, and I can't say the thought didn't momentarily cross my mind before the off switch kicked in. That pesky old First Amendment thing would seem to apply in this case, but his home town cops have suspended his firearm's license and have him under investigation. Let's see violate no law in the exercise of your First Amendment rights and have your Second Amendment rights stripped from you. Sound like horseshit to me. Borepatch has more here.

More inane stupidity from the land of Bloomberg.

A knife is a useful tool. I can carry them in my pocket so I have them available at need. And yes, part of that usefulness is that I can use it as a weapon if need be.
Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance and his fellow travelers have way too much time on their hands if this is the best they can do to justify their budgets.

But it's for your own good!

President Obama has issued an executive order "Establishing the National Prevention, Health Promotion, and Public Health Council" Initially the Fed is now going to butt into your life in these areas: smoking cessation; proper nutrition; appropriate exercise; mental health; behavioral health; sedentary behavior; substance-use disorder; and domestic violence screenings. Now please show me where in the Constitution it gives the President or the Fed any power over me in these areas. Show me where my health is made your business, and if I don't choose to comply what then? It's one more link in the chains of the nanny state.

Here's your lifestyle change.

Need cold meds? Get a prescription.

Since the meth makers were getting their supply of pseudoephedrine from drug stores and pharmacies, States passed laws that required pharmacies to place it behind the counter and require ID to purchase it. In some states like Missouri this apparently has had little impact. Who’d a thunk it. I mean prohibition has worked so well with guns, other drugs and alcohol, why change the model? There is talk now about requiring a doctor’s prescription to get cold meds. It didn’t work the first time, try HARDER. God please save us from the nanny state.
