By the way, if a shutdown does take place it will be because a certain f**kwit in the White House won't sit down and negotiate in good faith with the opposition.

Why Can't Anyone Agree How Many Mass Shootings There Have Been In 2013?H/T to Uncle.
Because nothing makes a real American want to do something more than having a nosy busybody tell them that that can’t. The handful of Gun Culture guys walking around with a slung rifle at a political rally are the equivalent of the feather boa and black electrical tape clad dancing dudes at a gay pride parade. Both of them are saying “We’re here. Deal with it, bitch.” - Larry CorreiaLots more goodness where that came from.

I cannot remember a time when one faction of one party promises economic chaos if it can't get 100 percent of what it wants. That's never happened before. But that's what's happening right now - President Barak Obama...and that's not what you do every time the Republicans question your deficit spending? Compromise means both side give not just the Right.
Starbuck's policy of defaulting to local laws on whether guns were allowed in their stores and staying out of the debate was a nice change of pace among national retailers. Imagine...a national retailer with decidedly liberal tendencies opting for neutrality in the gun debate and letting the free market work? That got Starbucks the appreciation of a lot of American and not just gun owners.
So much for that.
In telling gun owners we are welcome but not our guns, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has indeed chosen a side. Guess what Bub? If my gun isn't welcome neither am I. No Starbucks will ever see another penny from me. I'm not so naive that I believe that decision will make a difference in Starbucks' bottom line, but I won't do business with someone who gives my enemies a victory. Ever.
Carney: Obama Implementing Executive Actions Following Navy Yard Shooting'Cause you can't let an opportunity like t his go to waste.
Sarcasm aside, if you can't trust an officer or NCO with a sidearm, as every Barney Fife cop in America is trusted, then either we need better recruiting standards, or you need therapy. I'm betting on the latter. - Michael Z. Williamson
When it was over, the suspected gunman lay dead amid an armload of weapons. Sources told News4 that surveillance footage showed that he began his attack with a shotgun, but was found with a 9mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle. Not that it'll put the kibosh on the prohibitionist's attempts to use this as their new platform for gun control. They'll just add Joe Biden's weapon of choice to the prohibited list.NBC News correspondent Pete Williams is reporting Alexis purchased a shotgun in Lorton, Va. during the past week or so.
The suspected gunman appeared to have seized firearms from two of his victims as he moved through the building along the Anacostia River in southeast Washington, where 3,000 Navy employees go to work each day, many of them carrying authorized firearms.
H/T to Clayton.
[UPDATE: 9/17/2013] No AR-15 was used. The shooter used a shotgun and two pistols. No confirmation on whether the pistols were taken from his victims. None of this matters to the prohibitionists. The AR-15 is still the mass shooters weapon of choice if you limit your set to the incidents that fit your agenda.

I enjoyed all of them. Angus Donald, Sarah Hoyt, Gregory Urback, and Mike Smith were all new to me. In Hoyt I've found another source to fill my yen for libertarian Science Fiction. I've had the books on the Kindle for a bit now but never got to them. Damn sorry I waited so long now.

Colorado proves politicians can’t fear gun reformH/T to Uncle.
Armed EPA raid in Alaska sheds light on 70 fed agencies with armed divisions...ya want to play with them. Armed LEOs are exactly that to most of these agencies. There is no real need where local law enforcement can't be called in to help. Their only use is to justify their expense. Just saying...
Gun control advocates say Colorado recall stifling effort in CongressEvery once in a while the elected need a reminder of for whom they work.
Statists always blame the NRA or the "gun lobby" when they get thier asses handed to them in the legislature or during an election. The lesson of the Colorado Recalls wasn't "fear the gun lobby". They spent less than a sixth of what Bloomberg and his fellow travelers did, and they came late to the fight. The lesson was don't piss off your constituents without expecting a response. Morse and Giron abused the process to push their agenda and locals rose up and kicked them to the curb.
The lesson? Abuse the legislative process and you will be made to pay.

Bloomberg dumped $350,000 in to oppose this recall and lost to an underfunded grassroots effort by locals. Hey Mikey! 2014 is coming you bastard.
Taking things to a logical conclusion, such developments would result in a giant leap forward for campaigners and legal warriors in favor of legally binding international prohibitions on civilian possession and use of small arms and related products, the end of the international arms trade, and expansive subordination of national legislation and policymaking process to global governance bodies.[16] Ultimately, the Obama Administration’s apparent willingness to require contractor membership in the ICoCA should cause civil arms rights libertarians, the broader shooting industry, and democratic national sovereigntists to take notice and mobilize accordingly. If I read this right, since the Obama Administration knows it probably won't get the U.N. Small Arms Treaty though the Senate and can't gun control through the legislature they instead will force American arms makers to comply with said treaty if they want to do business with the U. S. Department of State. Can that prohibition extending to the rest of the U. S. Government be far behind? This is just another example of Obama giving gun owners the finger because we don't kiss his ass.

While drawing his gun, the officer unintentionally fired one shot, striking the woman in the leg.Keep you finger off the trigger until the weapon is on target, and you have decided to fire.

My youngest daughter, twelve years old, has been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and possibly meningitis. Prayer would be appreciated.
[UPDATE: 8/9/2013] It was not meningitis, but beyond that the doctors couldn't decide whether it was pneumonia or not. What you really find out during episodes of this sort is what doctors don't know. That's a hell of a lot more than they think they know. My baby is at home now on the same meds they were giving her at the hospital. It's for the best. This way the semi ex-wife don't kill nobody. What I am sure of is my baby wouldn't be home without the prayers of friends and family. Thank you all.Store Clerk Responds To Gun With A GunIf nothing else, watch the video.
What came to mind for me when I heard the news were these panels from Ms. Tree #17 by Max Allan Collins and Terry Beatty.
At a school event where a local SWAT officer was displaying police equipment a child walked up and pulled the trigger on his holstered weapon. Seriously? What they say is...
Police say because the gun was in a holster to accommodate the attached flashlight, the trigger was more accessible. What I hear is the highly trained SWAT officer had his duty handgun in a holster that was neither designed or intended to accommodate the pistol with a flashlight attached.
Just saying... UPDATE: Analyzing The Lodi, Second-Party, Negligent Discharge
