I think there's a lawsuit there...

Apparently, in San Antonio, if someone is made uncomfortable by you sitting at a Starbucks doing nothing but sipping your coffee with an unloaded rifle propped against the chair, that's disorderly conduct.
San Antonio police Chief William McManus explained Texas law also provides that if anyone feels threatened by the open display of weapons, the person carrying can be charged with disorderly conduct.
Now that's a gift to the prohibitionists.

What happens when the prohibitionists...

...advertise their rallies? They get outnumbered.

On changes in the NFA Trusts

From Comments
Anonymous said...

Based on one of these ex orders the atf has already stated they want CLEO sign off on ALL nfa items, be it a trust or individual. Problem is most CLEO refuse to sign, hence the trust route. The atf still does a background check on the trustee of the trust (I have 4 nfa checks pending since January 2013 that I am still waiting on completion for, and I work or the DOJ !!!) but the request for CLEO sign off will keep thousands of legal gun owners from purchasing NFA weapons. All this at a time when my state (NC) just relaxed their NFA laws by making trusts 100% legal, and allowing the use of suppresors for hunting.

In Charlotte NC, a local thug enters a convenience store armed with a forearm in an attempted armed robbery. The thug jumps the counter and pistol whips the clerk. The clerk defends himself and shoots the thug dead. The Castle Doctrine applies in your workplace in North Carolina. I'd be surprised if there are charges, even in Charlotte.

Worthless Bastard.

Obama signs two new executive orders. Neither is anything but a middle finger to gun owners and a sop to the prohibitionists. Neither will do a thing to effect criminal access to firearms only honest gun owners. When is the last time a fifty year old semi-automatic battle rifle was used in a crime?
One new policy will end a government practice that lets military weapons, sold or donated by the U.S. to allies, be reimported into the U.S. by private entities. The White House said the U.S. has approved 250,000 of those guns to be reimported since 2005; under the new policy, only museums and a few other entities like the government will be eligible to reimport military-grade firearms.

The Obama administration is also proposing a federal rule to stop those who would be ineligible to pass a background check from skirting the law by registering a gun to a corporation or trust. The new rule would require people associated with those entities, like beneficiaries and trustees, to undergo the same type of fingerprint-based background checks as individuals if they want to register guns.

So much for the Korean Garands.

UPDATE: Sebastian has commentary here on the matter. All I can say is since when has Obama let a little thing like the law get in his way. Well?

UPDATE:

It's petty and in the end ineffectual, which might be an epigram for Obama.

At least we don't have to worry about gang thugs wandering around with CMP Garands in their pants. I've never tried shooting an M1 while holding it sideways. Wonder how that would work out.

What do I know?

We have this murderer, Assad, on one side, and rebel forces dominated by Al-Qaeda on the other. Ya know, the guys who murdered Americans on 9/11. So why should we care one damn bit who wins. Unless we're striking both sides, whatever we do, we lose. Just saying...

Custer at the Alamo

The blurb reads...
Sent 40 years into the past by a spell of Chief Sitting Bull, General George Custer and the Seventh Cavalry join Davy Crockett to fight at the Alamo against Mexican forces led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
For $2.99 I figured I could take the chance. I'm glad I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Well researched. Good plot. Good characterizations. It compares favorably to Conroy, Flint, and Turtledove. I'd really like to see more.

That's one hell of a pistol...

...since to read this story you'd think it discharged itself without any human involvement.
A gun belonging to a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy accidentally discharged Monday night outside York High School, authorities say.

----

The deputy, who is the school’s resource officer, was among four people in the vicinity at the time, the spokesman said. Authorities say the deputy has been placed on administrative leave, and another school resource officer has been assigned at York High.

At the least, I'm pretty sure there was a finger involved there somehow...and a deputy...and an unholstered duty weapon. Just saying...

Don't bring a knife to a gunfight.

Mother faces charges after accidentally shooting self in Wake Forest

In Wake Forest, a mother with a concealed carry permit who was in a retail store had her pistol in her purse. When her two year old reached into her purse she grabbed the weapon. The pistol discharged discharged into her hand. It is unclear from the story whether she, her child, or shifting an unholstered weapon in a purse containing other objects caused the weapon to discharge. According to the story the woman is expected to be charged with failure to secure a firearm from a minor.

For what its worth,* It seems to me that whether the police can make it stick will hinge on whether the child discharged the firearm or not since that's required by the statute.

Anyway, the lady needs to keep her weapon in a sleeve or holster when its in her purse.

* Not much in that I'm not an attorney.

[UPDATE] No charges.

Not as long as a co-operative press shows up. This Bloomberg bus stop in Richmond managed to attract 15 followers and a ton of press. If there were counter protesters the story didn't mention it. That's the cost of keeping the locations secret until the last minute. You do keep gun owners away and control the narrative, but your side doesn't know where to go either.

Ax Vs. Firearm: Really Bad Idea.

In Montgomery County Texas, following a disturbance at a nearby house, an ax wielding man drove through the neighbor's yard threatening the family. He then parked his vehicle, removed an ax, threatened the homeowner and family as he advance on him with said ax. The homeowner shot him. The matter is under investigation, but seriously, this was in Texas.

Then again, his actions did drive the gun prohibitionists bat shit crazy and that's worth something if only for entertainment value.

Now that's...

...funny.

Bad Aim?

In Virginia, a driver shoots himself in the groin when two guys question his driving habits and he pulls his .45. Two thoughts come to mind.
  1. The story claims the gun accidentally discharged into the dumb shit's driver's groin. While I'm sure he didn't intend to shoot himself, I'm also sure his finger was involved in the discharge of the gun.
  2. I seriously doubt we'd be so lucky that his shot took him out of the gene pool. That would be a happy ending.
