The Amber Arrow by Tony Daniel

This is the sequel to Daniel's The Dragon Hammer. There is apparently a third coming at some point and the three make up Wulf's Saga. That's good. The first two are very good books so I hope the third comes along directly. Here Wulf seeks a cure of his love and is captured by Romans and enslaved. Highly Recommended.

There's an anti-gun article in Scientific American. The first citation is a study by Kellerman. That tells you all you need to know.

A Win for the Good Guys

Petition for an en banc review in Wrenn v. DC is denied by D. C. Circuit. So, no "may issue" in DC? We'll se. The dicks running DC won't get the message so it is probably off to SCOTUS which probably isn't a good idea since their luck in that venue hasn't gone so well for them.

Larry Correia on Suppressors and the Hearing Protection Act

I love Elizabeth Moon's science fiction. She's a damn good writer. she wrote a piece against the deregulation of suppressors. It is the usual bullshit from the Bloomberg lobby and the tired old "there will be blood in the streets" argument that has yet to come to past. I still like her fiction but I won't be following her advice on gun laws and regulation. So, the point of this? Larry Correia responded to her article against deregulation and as usual he mops the floor.

I Just Got Suspended From Twitter For Sending The Wrong Emojis To Bradley Manning

That's Cool

H/T to Uncle.

Time Will Tell.

I support everyone's right to protest and speak their mind. That would be both the oppressed multimillionaires of the NFL and President Trump. I also understand I don't get to harm my employees brand by protesting on their time. My employer has terminated others for doing things that would bring discredit to them and would do the same to me if I were so foolish. The NFL has no problem with their employees' conduct. Their choice. I also have a right to protest and speak my mind. I'll do so by withholding my support for the NFL. I won't watch the games on television or buy products advertised there. I won't buy NFL tickets or merchandise. That's my right. I'll do the same with any other professional sport whose players conduct themselves the same way. These guys forget they are entertainers. I can find my entertainment elsewhere. Considering the drop in NFL ratings since this BS started, I suspect many feel the same way I do. Time will tell.
Screw the NFL

Your concealled weapon doesn't do you any good...

...if you leave it in your car.
Nashville Police spokesman Don Aaron said the gunman shot one woman, who was leaving the church, in the parking lot before going inside.

“One of the church members, upon seeing the gunman do this action, ran up to confront him, and was pistol whipped by the gunman,” Aaron said during a press conference taped by the Tennessean.

That church member then went to his car, where he had a gun covered by his concealed carry license, and went inside the church to confront the gunman again.

UPDATE:

Regardless, he still stopped a mass shooting. Good work.

Engle confronted Samson after he entered the church. Samson pistol-whipped Engle. After Samson shot himself, Engle went to his vehicle, got his own weapon and held Samson at gunpoint until police arrived, police said.

Iron Angels by Eric Flint and Alister Kimble

It was OK. An FBI Agent investigates strange murders that lead to the discovery of two opposing cults and a portal to another universe. It is as well written any any thing Flint involves himself in but it never really grabbed me. I'm not saying don't read it. It just didn't work that well for me.

Comic Book Writers Plot to Harass Conservatives at ComicCon

I like comic books. I've been reading them since I learned to read. Adaptations of novels led me to real books. I'm sure many of the writers and artists I liked when I grew up were liberal and liberal themes made their way into the stories but not in the heavy handed way they seem to be popping up lately. AND I never heard of shit like this until recently.
Comic Book Writers Plot to Harass Conservatives at ComicCon
So, to you artists and writers out there. YOUR job is to entertain me NOT preach to me. Shit like this only means I won't buy your product and I'm pretty sure when others take the same stance your employers won't be happy with the drop in sales. By the way, I'm fifty-seven years old. I'm one of those guys who have some disposable income to spend on things like comics. Can you say the same about SJW you seem to be aiming your product at now? I just went in to my local comic shop and dropped my pre-orders from about 25 comics a month to three. Think about it.

R. I. P. Len Wein

I can't say he was what I would call a favorite but the man paid his dues and in doing so co-created Wolverine, Swamp Thing, and The Human Target. He wrote Giant Size X-Men #1 that re-introduced the new team that included Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus. Those are his creations that I can remember off the cuff. I grew up reading the comics he wrote. He did good work.

R. I. P. Jerry Pournelle

Next to Robert Heinlein, Jerry Pournelle was my favorite writer. His books were as good the second and third time through as the first. His solo novels and collaborations were damn near perfect, and he will be missed.

In Ohio, two armed robbers enter a Taco Bell and ordered the five employees to get on the floor. three of the employees opened fire on the robbers. One of the robbers escaped. The other died of multiple gunshot wounds.
In a statement, Taco Bell said the company was offering counseling to the restaurant workers and was cooperating with the investigation.

In Other Words... More Free Shit

As I see it, the ante to be in the game as a serious contender for the Democratic nomination will include uniform positions on at least five issues. Specifically, any Democrat who wants to be taken seriously must support a single-payer health-care system, a $15 minimum wage, free college tuition, affirmative support for sanctuary cities along with minimal immigration controls and, finally, a contender must completely embrace Black Lives Matter and engage in a probing courtship with the radical pseudo-group the “antifa.”

The race to be the Democratic nominee for president in 2020 will be a race to the left. The Bernie Sanders agenda has taken root. By the time the Democrats’ nominating process was complete in 2016, Hillary Clinton had become Bernie Sanders-lite. I see the next Democratic nominee as likely to be Sanders on steroids.

Yes, they should go with that. Please. I figure even as fucked up as the GOP is at this moment, they'll win.

That's got to be the headline of the year.

The art is by a British artist named Boo Cook. He isn't the reason I picked up this piece, but it is a nice sample of his art. I just wanted a piece of Doctor Who art, and this fit the bill and my price. On the downside, shipping from [formerly] Great Britain doubled the cost. Oh, well...

The Count by Kenneth Tam

In the late Nineteenth Century a tunnel to a parallel universe if discovered in western north America. The United States and Great Britain exploit it cooperatively and a new frontier is born. This novella provides an introduction to this new world. The story pulls you in. The characters are interesting. Easy to read prose. I liked it enough to want to read the first novel in the series. At this time you can get the Kindle version on Amazon for free.

This is Antifa

And let’s be clear: Totalitarian is precisely what they are. Mark Bray, a Dartmouth lecturer who has defended antifa’s violent tactics, recently explained in The Post, “Its adherents are predominantly communists, socialists and anarchists” who believe that physical violence “is both ethically justifiable and strategically effective.” In other words, they are no different from neo-Nazis. Neo-Nazis are the violent advocates of a murderous ideology that killed 25 million people last century. Antifa members are the violent advocates of a murderous ideology that, according to “The Black Book of Communism,” killed between 85 million and 100 million people last century. Both practice violence and preach hate. They are morally indistinguishable. There is no difference between those who beat innocent people in the name of the ideology that gave us Hitler and Himmler and those who beat innocent people in the name of the ideology that gave us Stalin and Dzerzhinsky. - Marc A. Thiessen

Nothing Here Most of Us Didn't Know Already

Federal authorities have been warning state and local officials since early 2016 that leftist extremists known as “antifa” had become increasingly confrontational and dangerous, so much so that the Department of Homeland Security formally classified their activities as “domestic terrorist violence,” according to interviews and confidential law enforcement documents obtained by POLITICO.

Since well before the Aug. 12 rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned deadly, DHS has been issuing warnings about the growing likelihood of lethal violence between the left-wing anarchists and right-wing white supremacist and nationalist groups.

Previously unreported documents disclose that by April 2016, authorities believed that “anarchist extremists” were the primary instigators of violence at public rallies against a range of targets. They were blamed by authorities for attacks on the police, government and political institutions, along with symbols of “the capitalist system,” racism, social injustice and fascism, according to a confidential 2016 joint intelligence assessment by DHS and the FBI. - Politico
