I'm reading....
...Undercurrents by Robert Buettner. I got it in ebook format for my Kindle more or less on a whim and I'm pleasantly surprised. It's good solid entertaining military science fiction, and now I find he's written several other novels placed in the same universe and I'm gonna have to get them too. Money well spent.

An even easier way to comment on the ATF's reporting requirement
Over at No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money is an even easier way to comment on the ATF's power grab/reporting requirement for long guns: A form letter generator. Fill in the blanks, modify the provided letter to your taste, and hit the send button. Let your friends and family know. If we can't do better than the Brady and Bloomberg minions, well....

That's Cold
In Washington, a teenage girl shot her dad with a hunting bow after he took away, or tried to at least, her cellphone. She refused to let him use the phone to call 911, and he had to crawl to the neighbors to get help. She then fled into the woods with her bow and an "arsenal of arrows", nearly three dozen. I wonder if Mark Miller, the reporter, would consider 35 bullets an "arsenal" of ammo.

Take a moment to let the ATF know your...
...opinion. Actually, that would be counter-productive in this matter. We need to be nice on this one. The comment period for the ATF's new regulation that would require FFL's on the Southwest border ends May 31. If you haven't commented yet you need to do so. John Richardson over at No Lawyers - Only Guns and Money has proved the necessary information to make the process simple. He provides the email address and two letters you can cut and paste or adapt to your needs. Your comment has to be in by May 31st so stop dawdling. I can guarantee you our opponents are doing their best to pack the results. Shouldn't happen. There are more of us than them. Get to it.

U2 performed a series of concerts...
...in Mexico City last week. The lead singer, Bono took the opportunity to repeat the lie that 90% of the weapons seized in Mexico come from the United States. You can find more details here and here. I'm perfectly willing to attribute his ignorance to, well, ignorance, or trusting sources he shouldn't. I'm also perfectly willing to agree to disagree. Saying I won't support his ignorance doesn't really mean a whole lot since I'm not really a fan of the band and don't own a single U2 album or track and now probably won't. The reason is that he couldn't bother to do a little research before opening his mouth and spouting a lie.

Nanny State Bushwah!
Florida May Ban Chocolate Milk From Schools
I know this is kinda hard for certain statist twits to figure out since they equate winning an election with elevation to godhood, but my kid, my decision. I'll decide what they may and may not eat. My choices may parallel what emerges from your bureaucratic circlejerk, but it may not. And if they doesn't that's my choice as the parent. NOT yours.

M&P Reviews
The M&P9 and M&P40.
My employer has decided we should stop carrying the Sig 229 in .40 and switch to the M&P9. I like the M&Ps and have put a couple thousand rounds through the 40. I like the fell of the gun and it a nice trigger. From an armorer's POV they are damn easy to work on. In our case I think they are a solution searching for a problem. I didn't see any problem with the 229 except breaking down the slide for PMA was a royal bitch. Need to knock out the firing pin positioning pin? Get a bigger freakin' hammer. I hate working on those guns, but I love shooting them.
The M&P9? I can live with it, but I'd rather have the .40.

Paul Ryan for President?
I kinda sorta like that idea. His positions on the Second Amendment isn't perfect but there aren't many politicians whose are. On the econmy he's dead on. On the other hand if he runs and loses he's back on the street. I like having him in the House. Just something to think about.

That's the best they got?
I was flipping through the assorted channels on cable the other day when I ran across some program on The History Channel alledging a connection between Nostradamus and global warming. Seriously? These talking heads were pushing the idea that global warming must be real because it was predicted by Nostradamus? That's the best they got?

Lip Service
Boehner Says Cut Trillions, Not BillionsI'll believe it's more than talk when I see it. The GOP talks a good game but inevitably they'll let the Dems play their "oh they're going to take food from the mouths of children and old people" game and run scared. That's assuming the RINOs in the GOP haven't already sabotaged their fiscal conservatives. Until they do more than talk it's just lip service with poor technique.

The Brady Bunch released...
...their State Scorecard for 2010. North Carolina scored 16. That's a little bit better than last year when we scored 19. We can do better. There are a number of bills working their way through the Legislature that if passed would do wonders for our score. Call your representatives to let them know you approve of the current trend in pro-gun legislation. Maybe we'll dip below ten next year.

Of course it is...
John Bolton: Gun control a top goal of Obama 2nd term...and most of us had it figured out long ago. It's just one more reason Obama has to go in 2012. Now if only the GOP would give us a viable candidate.
The Brady Bunch should be happy...
...that at least the NRA considers them news, but nooooo. Helke has to go and bitch about that. There's no satisfying some people.

More on the giving of a third eye to Bin Lauden
There's so much "crap" blowing over the interwebs on this it's hard to know what is what. Frankly I don't care. President Obama made the right decision In putting boots on the ground to off Bin Lauden, but then makes the stupid decision to bury him at sea, worry in the least about "Islamic traditions", and hold off on providing proof [photos and video] that what happened happened. Granted most of us don't need it and who really gives a shit what Bin Lauden's disciples think about anything, but now the conspiracy theorist have more fodder from the Obama camp. Ya gotta wonder just where the man's head is, but then I read stuff like this and suddenly all is clear...if, of course, it's true. Based on his past performance you can guess my opinion.

Reading and Read
I finished Larry Correia's Hard Magic. What can you say about a book that has zeppelins, zombies, demons, gangsters, and lots of neat guns. Correia has written a damn fine tribute to the pulps of the 30's and 40's. I couldn't put it down and I highly recommend it.
I also knocked out John Ringo's The Hot Gate. It's the sequel to his Live Free or Die and Citadel. It's every bit as good as both of the previous novels and I hope we get a Troy Rising IV.
I'm now a few pages into Tom Kratman's Countdown: The Liberators. So far Kratman's as willing to offend the left as always. Good stuff.

It's a right.
...and the man had a permit. That means he gets to carry his pistols just because he can. If it were based on need it would be a priveledge. The difference is what any number of lawsuits are currently trying to sort out. Midland Police Chief Gerald Ladwig, as a supporter of the Second, seems to have missed the entire point.
