The weapon of choice: pizza cutters

A 28 year old woman went into a store in once great Britain to buy a pizza cutter and was asked to show ID before they'd sell it to her. I shit you not. This wasn't government policy [yet] but the store insuring that the evil bladed item didn't fall into the wrong hands that being someone under the age of 25. They've got to reach the bottom of that slippery slope sometime soon. Right?

I like hot dogs. They're a staple, along with mac and cheese [the kind with powdered cheese] in my household when money's tight and actually when it's not. The Cancer Project has filed a class action suit against several makers of hot dogs. The suit attempts to force the companies to put warning labels on their product.

The Cancer Project is for all intents and purposes an offshoot of PETA.

The Cancer Project is led by Neal Barnard, a past president of The PETA Foundation. More than two-thirds of the Cancer Project's budget comes directly from the wealthy founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida. The Cancer Project's parent organization, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, has also received more than $1.3 million from PETA.

And that should tell you all you need to know about the wingnuts at the Cancer Project.

If hot dogs cause cancer, I'll take my chances.

I'm told, by a liberal friend [hey I've got 'em] that Rasmussen Polls are Republican and therefore unreliable. I wouldn't trust any polls out of the networks. Gallup and Pew I don't know about. In regard to Obama's popularity Rasmussen has been showing a downward trend for a few weeks now. I looked at Gallup and any changes are minor. Now Pew is showing some dramatic changes downward. I was convinced by Rasmussen but it's nice to get some confirmation.

Contact with Chaos by Michael Z. Williamson

I just finished reading Contact With Chaos. It's wasn't what I expected, less military sci fi and more politics, but its a damn good read. It's an above average first contact novel. Mike gives us a well thought out alien culture and the neolithic steam tech is interesting. It was an enjoyable read.

Kevin Baker arranged to donate a firearm for a raffle with the proceeds to go to Project Valour-IT. Arrangements were made with Soldiers' Angels to provide on-line ticket sales through Paypal. Apparently things were moving along wonderfully when Paypal pulled the plug. Why? The gun raffle. I'd never really given it any thought but since the parent company, eBay, is virulently anti-gun I should of expected Paypal would be as well. Go here to get the details. I don't know if the phone calls to Paypal to make any difference. The only way Paypal normally pay any attention is if you hit 'em in the pocketbook with a boycott. A year ago I'd of given it a hope in hell but with the current economy who knows. Also, this is a good cause but money has been tight, even $10 hurts, and I hadn't planned to participate. Now I will find the money to buy a ticket if only to thumb my nose at those fucktards at Paypal. I hope those of you reading this will do the same.

It took three rounds from a shotgun, five bullets from a handgun and two shots from a rifle to kill the 120-pound black bear that broke into a Boulder County home early Monday morning.

...refusing to police their own.

What they didn't know was that they'd been rear-ended by the son of a police officer who was on duty, and dad was about to get involved.

Lawless was standing at the counter of the store, at Comly Road and Roosevelt Boulevard, smiling and chatting with the clerk, when she was grabbed from behind and violently pushed back with a police officer's gun in her face.

"He hit me with his left hand, and he had his gun in his right hand," Lawless said. "He pushed his gun into the left side of my neck. It caused a scrape-type bruise on my neck."

After a chaotic struggle, Lawless was arrested and charged with assaulting the officer.

The District Attorney's Office reviewed the case and declined to prosecute Officer Lopez in December. Eight days later, he was reissued his weapon and returned to full duty.

The Internal Affairs report concluded that Lopez had committed "departmental violations," and it expressed skepticism about the claim that one of the four occupants of the Mazda appeared to have had a gun.

This officer committed assault by pointing a gun or whatever the PA equivalent and other than sitting at a desk for eight days jack shit happened to him. He's allowed to avoid court so he doesn't have to justify his actions before a judge. The victim has to waste her time showing up in court each appearance or face arrest for failure to appear, but not the officer. Police Officers ask the owner of the store where the incident took place to erase the video and no action id taken against them. Shit like this is why people trust the police less and less. Good officers get harmed by association. Something needs to be done. Civilian review boards might be an option, but in any event sounds like it's time for a civil suit.

New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has decided "realistic" toy guns are prohibited by state law and sent a letter to retailers ordering they cease and desist.

Realistic toy guns are a tragedy waiting to happen,” Cuomo said in a statement. “Every day, these imitation weapons put the lives of both law enforcement and civilians at risk. This is a public safety matter, plain and simple, and we will not permit these companies to profit by making our streets more dangerous.”

Have you noticed lately that the easiest way to get something banned is to claim it is either "for the children" or it placed "law enforcement officers lives at risk." A toy gun does not place a cop's life at risk. It may place the life of the stupid son of a bitch who points the toy gun at a cop at risk. Said cop potentially might double tap two rounds center mass not knowing it's a toy gun but I'm not sure how that places the cop at risk. I'm almost half a century old and growing up managed to play with some fairly realistic toy guns without getting shot so forgive me if I see an agenda behind Cuomo's actions beyond "public safety". He a dick and he's pushing gun control even if it's toy gun control. Cuomo specifically names the Rhode Island Novelty Co. and these are examples from their on line catalog of the toy guns they sell. "Realistic" aren't they?

Officer shoots mother and daughter.

I can't think of a reason this should have happened. The officer had a right to defend himself from the suicidal daughter with a handgun but not at the expense of the 75 year old mother. The use of his firearm was negligent. He doesn't get to put his safety ahead of innocents.

The sooner we who believe in freedom, the free market, small government, individual rights and any number of issues that the left labels "conservative" realize it and begin taking the fight to the opposition the better.
