Schumer’s Attack on the Republicans Who Gave Him a Win Is Telling

Charlie Schumer is pushing DISCLOSE...

...in the Senate and wheeling and dealing to get what it passed. He's good on the NRA exemption and he decided to throw the unions under the bus or so says the news. Except we all know that what goes into the conference committee ain’t necessarily what comes out and a violation of the First Amendment is a violation no matter who gets the shaft. Call your Senators and let them know where you stand.

In Ireland, new legislation gives...

...homeowners the right to use firearms to defend themselves from intruders.

The police association of superintendents and inspectors, the AGSI, stated that “the current situation, which legally demands a house owner retreat from an intruder, was intolerable".

It’s what amounts to a “castle doctrine”. Meanwhile in North Carolina antigun legislators are holding our castle doctrine bill hostage in committee in the sure and certain knowledge that should it reach the floor it will become law. What does one have to do with the other? Nothing really, except in Ireland where they have no acknowledged right to bear arms, they get it. People have a right to self-defense. To bad certain Democrats in the North Carolina Legislature can't figure that one out.

Here's the roll call. The NRA might not rate these guys on their vote but the rest of damn well ought to. Oh, and the guys that didn't vote? No vote was a no vote on this one. They need to pay the price come November.

North Carolina: HB 2031: No Seizure of Firearms in Emergency

According to Grass Roots North Carolina some good people in the North Carolina Legislature have reintroduced HB 2031: NO SEIZURE OF FIREARMS IN EMERGENCY/FUNDS. This bill will prevent local authorities from banning the carrying and sale of firearms and ammunition during a declared state of emergency. This is a response the happenings is King, North Carolina this past February during a winter storm.

According to The New York Times, a “reform” bill might require advocacy groups (such as NRA) “to identify all their financial donors or set up separate accounts to handle political spending and identify the donors to that account.”
Simply put: If NRA wants to use its general funds from member dues to speak out during election season, then NRA would have to give the federal government a list of every single NRA member.

The FEC database is open to whoever want to view it and with an issue as divisive as gun control who's to say someone won't use the information in the database to harass gun owners or proponents of other divisive issues. What if your boss hates the NRA and uses the database to purge any members that work for him? Under this legislation it ain't impossible. That being said the fact that Schumer wants it is enough reason to suspect and oppose it.

NC: Castle Doctrine

A few months back I posted on SB928: North Carolina's Castle Doctrine. It passed the Senate but was and is being held up in committee by Rep. Deborah Ross (D-Wake). Her excuse was and is that she needed input from leadership on the bill. Well leadership is Hugh Holliman(D-Davidson)who reportedly told constituents he wouldn't do anything to control Ross. Apparently in December he told a local newspaper he supported the Castle Doctrine. I guess we'll have to wait until May when the Legislature goes back in session to really tell but maybe we can make a few phone calls to put a little pressure on him now. Then we'll see. So far the evidence is to the contrary.

In North Carolina if a state of emegency is declared...

...you can't take your firearms off your property under threat of law. It's mandatory by state law. Stokes County declared a state of emergency under the recent snowfall as did the City of King which is in Stokes County. Here's my question. Did any other county in North Carolina feel the need to take such action? Maybe it's about time to revisit that particular statute in the General Assembly and work on a revision? Probably a waste of time since gun bills the anti's in the Legislature don't like disappear into committee never to be seen again.

He's introduced the PROTECT Act. It requires NICS checks stay on file for either six months if you're a "normal" person or ten years if you're on the no fly or terror watch list. In essense, back-door registration. The usual suspects are co-sponsers. Sebastian has the details.

...and its long been obvious that U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand [NY-D] suckered gun owners when she was appointed to the Senate. She is not and never was our friend. Gillibrand, along with Carolyn McCarthy, and the support of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, Mayors Against IllegalGuns, the Brady Campaign and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence has introduced the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act. Sebastian comments on it here. Nothing this group pushes has any redeeming qualities for gun owners.

Please remember before you start that this is 1,118 pages of bureaucratic bullshit and now I think I know why our elected representatives don't want to actually read it before they vote on it.

Senate Bill 928, "The Castle Doctrine", passed in the Senate in May but it sits in a House committee under the thumb of an anti-gun committe chairperson, Rep. Deborah Ross (D-Wake). Paul Valone has the story here. Call your representative and and ask them to do what they can do to shake it loose.

Democrats read health care bill...

... or that's what the Democrats are claiming in the Washington Post. They had a "teach in" where their staffers spoon fed them the high points of the bill so they can "sell" it.

I'll be. Hagan voted yea. I'd have never thunk it. Burr did as well but that was expected. I guess I better send her a letter thanking her even though we lost by two votes. I guess at least two Senators bought Schumer's "blood in the streets" argument.

CA: Gun bills have stores up in arms

The Rational Review accurately describes these California bills as a "victim disarmament" bills. These bills don't really have anything to do with reducing crime or making firearms safer. The intent is to push dealers out of business and make guns and ammo harder to obtain. Except they won't work. They never do, at least in the stated intent. Unarmed sheep make better targets for criminals and government, but I repeat myself.

The American Clean Energy and Security Act or the Obama/Pelosi "fuck you all" bill passed 219-212 in the House. Eight Republicans voted for it. Forty-four Democrats voted against. North Carolina's delegation voted as follows:

I don't have a lot of discretionary cash and even less free time. The passage of the this bill will ensure I have even less. What little of each I have will be used to see that those fucktards who voted for it are looking for new jobs come election day. And frankly Mr. Shuler I don't care how pro gun you are if you can't see this legislation for the power grab it is you can't be trusted at any level.

The Senate hasn't passed their version yet so there is still hope. Call your Senators and let them know where you stand on this.

More Lautenberg horse pucky

It looks like Frank Lautenberg has introduced the Senate's version of the "the we can take away you guns and keep you from ever buying another on suspicion of nothing if we damn well please and there ain't a thing you can do about it so nah!, act" introduced by Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y, back in May.

In these bills the Attorney General gets to decide who's on the terror watch list and if you get put on it you lose your right to keep and bear arms without trial and with no appeal or recourse. I think not. Write, call, email your Senators and let them know how you feel about this. I'd suggest that you also let them know what a dick Lautenberg is, but they work with him so I doubt it's a surprise.

TN: Veto Override

The Tennessee state House overrode Gov. Bredesen's veto of the guns in restaurants bill yesterday. Their state Senate followed suit today. Uncle calls it...

a civil rights victory.

I have to agree. Now we need to get something similar passed in North Carolina.
