You know who you are.

What the daughter does, the mother did.
~ Jewish Proverb.

The NRA always has the best interests of gun owners in mind.

Riiiight.

Methinks the NRA, being in DC, has a tendency to think it knows better than the people on the ground in the middle of the fight. They also put their own best interest first. If what's good for gun owners and that interest conflicts? Well....

H/T to Sean.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2

I've mixed feelings about the series. I don't like the lead actress, Kristen Stewart. She has the personality and acting ability of a rock. Despite her presence, the first three films were OK and watchable, but nothing I would want to watch again. Part one of Breaking Dawn sucked. Part 2 was a surprisingly satisfying conclusion to the series if only because I need never watch Stewart again. I do suggest you wait for the DVD. You won't be disappointed.

Apparently, only when it doesn't effect their bottom line.

Red Dawn (2012)

I've read all the about the problems this movie had getting to the screen, and I almost didn't go see it. A studio bankruptcy kept it on the shelf and the original villains of this piece were the Chinese. The Chinese didn't like that and since they are a major market for Hollyweird. The villains became the North Koreans. That's a major hurdle in the suspension of disbelief. Like I said, I almost didn't go see it. I'm glad I did. Like the original, a group of High School students find themselves fighting as guerrillas in a war against an invader. It's not as good as the original but it's still fun. It's patriotic, and he main stream critics hate it.

Lessons

Republicans won big, running as Republicans, in 2004. But once they took control of Congress, they started acting like Democrats and lost big. There is a lesson in that somewhere but whether Republicans will learn it is another story entirely. - Thomas Sowell
They lost this time and think the solution is to act like Democrats, and no they won't learn the appropriate lessons.

Ain't that the truth.

Surfing the net...

Man Arrested After Telling Kids Santa Isn’t Real
Shoulda called an ambulance not the cops.
Churches offering concealed-carry weapons training to attract members
The point of the article is that churches desperate with declining membership are offering concealed carry classes to appeal to a different clientele. Couldn't possibly be they decided to meet the needs of their community? If I were inclined to attend church it sure wouldn't be at one that preached I had no right to self-defense.

Four years ago today....

...I started blogging. Three thousand, two hundred and forty-seven posts later I'm still happy in my play.

Bill Whittle: The Gods of Wisdom and Virtue

Kipling's poem can also be found here.

Breaking in line can be a bad idea.

In Texas, on Black Friday, a stupid git tried to jump in line and punched a fella in the nose hen he objected. The fella pulled his pistol. The line scattered. The stupid git hid behind a refrigerator then departed the area. No shots were fired. As for the fella with the pistol, a representative of the local police said...
...the man with the gun had a permit to carry the weapon and isn't being charged with a crime.
That's as it should be.

H/T to Bubba.

Consider this an exercise in...

...whatever.

A Matter of Perpective

An ad of this sort on a comic book....

...would send an anti-gun nut into a seizure these days.
I was scanning comic book covers the other night for a friend and came across this neat little item. I don't remember the specific comic but it was off the back of a crime comic circa 1949.

We have no rights they are bound to respect.

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Senate bill rewrite lets feds read your e-mail without warrants
Seems like a clear violation of our Fouth Amendment rights to me. It's clearly worth an email to your representatives in Congress. Oh, and to Law Enforcement. I don't care if my rights make your job hard. You guys have the power to take away a person's freedom. That should be hard.

I'll show you mine....

...if you'll show me yours.

Hers was a handgun. The flasher, faced with a larger caliber, fled.

I'm damn glad they missed....

...but you'd think the expert marksmen of FBI SWAT would be able to hit what they aimed at? I'm sure the FBI is damn glad their agents missed as well since what seems to be between the lines of this report is that the search warrant was either based on faulty info or served on the wrong house. Just saying.

Store Clerk Shoots Armed Suspect in Gas Station

Three thugs in black clothing and masks entered a convenience store in South Carolina. They demanded money and lottery tickets then opened fire. The female store clerk returned fire striking at least one of the three. Two fled the scene. The remaining thug was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Sounds like a good day's work to me.

Secession Petitioners Ain’t Whistling Dixie
And yeah, some of them are.

...and speaking of voter suppression...

Nothing to see here. Move along please.

Coming on the last election the Democrats bitched endlessly about voter suppression by the Right. Turns out they were right about voter fraud and suppression. They just >were practicing the old bait and switch.

A Good Cause

Tam of View From The Porch is having some medical issues, doesn't have insurance, and could use some help. She hasn't asked and shouldn't have to. We get free ice cream from her on a regular basis. Drop by her page and hit the tip jar.

UPDATE: There are raffles, the proceeds of which go to Tam to assist her in her time of need. Well, what are you waiting for.

Wreck-It Ralph

It's good for young and old alike. Use your kids as an excuse to go and enjoy. I did.

Skyfall

Skyfall is the 23rd entry into the Bond franchise and it rocks. No overblown plot to destroy Great Britain, the world or whatever, just an ex-agent's attempt to destroy M. We get a solid plot, good direction, good acting, and the well done action sequences we've come to expect from this series. This film brings the series full circle reintroducing old characters and setting the stage for the adaptations of the original Fleming tales if the producers so choose. Go see it.

Fox has called it for Obama.

I'll give up when the last vote is counted. I hope Romney does the same. Now I'm going to bed.

For Election Day

GO VOTE!

That is all.

Monday, November 5, 2012

Not if the media have any say...

Rumors...

...that probably aren't.

And This Would Be Just The Start If Obama Is Re-Elected
If you are a gun owner and care anything for your right to bear arms, a vote for the re-election of Obama is a vote against your best interests. He will push gun control legislation during his second term. He will bypass Congress and force regulations that restrict our Second Amendment rights. His reticence to do so in his first term wasn't support for the Second, but the sure and certain knowledge it might cost him the election. If you haven't voted already, vote Tuesday. Vote for the Second. Vote for the economy. Vote for the much lesser of two evils. Vote Romney.

Bill Whittle: Falling On Principle

Neg·li·gent

In California, an off-duty police officer managed to shoot himself in the knee with his department issued back-up weapon. A security video shows the officer standing with the pistol in his pocket and his hand in his pocket. The his departmental spokesman called it an "accidental discharge". I call it a negligent discharge. The pistol didn't go off by itself. How hard is it for these people to say the word neg·li·gent? I figure about as hard as it was for the officer to keep his hand off the gun.

H/T to the Duck.

Heh

Yet another reason to vote for Romney...

...or Johnson or any freaking body but Obama.
Surprise: NYC Mayor Bloomberg endorses Obama, citing…
Climate change, because it might be real. That's his cited reason? I wouldn't vote for my mother if Bloomberg endorsed her. Sorry, mom.

Chicago: No bullet tax, but the gun levy stands...

"It is very important to us to tax guns because we know that guns are the sources of the incredible violence we have in our neighborhoods," Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle told a news conference. She said 29 percent of guns used in crimes in Chicago were purchased legally in suburban Cook County.
...and now zero percent will buy their weapons legally in Cook County. Why pay the tax when all you have to do to avoid it is cross over to the next county to buy your gat. People vote with their dollars as well as their feet. Only the best and brightest run for office in Chicago.

Executive Privilege?

This leads me to the final point. There are so many reports – many of them false by design – that the picture is worse by the day. What happened at Benghazi happened. The horrible picture developing before our eyes is one of obfuscation, dishonesty, diversion, lies and excuses.

Here’s a note to the DoD and State Department. Listen very carefully. Wolfowitz says “it would appear.” That’s not even nearly good enough. We won’t accept appearances, or anonymous sources. There is a paper trail of deployments, locations, arming orders, force sizes, and so on and so forth. There is yet another paper trail of orders, requests, directives and other communications that fateful night.

We won’t stop until it is all public and assessed by all of us. We will get it, eventually. We will all see it. We will know who did what, who said what, what assets were where, who lied, who equivocated, and who came clean. We will name names.

The players who have any integrity left should come clean now and spill everything. It will go better for everyone in the long run. But it won’t change the facts. And the facts will be found out. That’s our promise.

Any moment now, I'm expecting the White House to claim executive privilege on all Benghazi related materials. It's what they do when the cover-up fails.
