Dem Rep. Maloney: Tougher gun control could prevent future terror attack

Neither of the Boston Bombers had a permit to purchase or possess firearms in Massachusetts. Without a permit what guns they had had to have been obtained illegally. In fact, they murdered a police officer in an attempt to get a gun for Bomber, the Younger. So tell me, Representative Maloney, how this act of terror could take place in a State with some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation if gun control was the answer to preventing such acts of terror. Tell me how barring people on the terror watch list from buying a firearm would have made a difference. Tell me how barring people from exercising a constitutional right because they are on a list they were placed on at a bureaucrat's whim without due process of any sort will do anything but push your anti-gun agenda. It certainly won't make us any safer.

Fairness my ass.

The Marketplace Fairness Act is about one thing and one thing only and that's increasing revenue for States and local governments. How is it fair that the brick and motor business only has to charge the one tax rate while the internet business has to account for the tax rates in all fifty states and God only knows how many jurisdictions within each State. Oh, and some of those internet businesses are brick and motor supplementing their incomes with the internet. Collecting taxes for so many jurisdictions is cost prohibitive and might very well be the end of smaller businesses. The large internet retailers that support this bill don't care about small business and neither do these governors or the politicians supporting it.

As a rule I take most of what comes...

...out of the GOA, or the NRA or pretty much any of the alphabet organizations, with a grain of salt. Verify then verify again.

This rings true to me, and Rubio, much as I like him, isn't enough to counter-balance the other assholes in the gang of eight that came up with this thing. Charles Schumer is smack in the middle of it, and I class everything he does as a threat to my life and liberty no matter how benign it may seem on the surface.

So let your representatives know where you stand.
