IA: Sixth Grader suspended for bringing empty shell casings to school.

In Des Moines an elementary school principal suspended a sixth-grader for bringing fired shell casings to school. the 11 year old collected the empty brass while on vacation and brought them to school to show her science teacher. The school policy under which the girl was suspended makes no reference to empty casings.
Principal Randy Gordon said the shells were considered ammunition even though they were empty, and were therefore against school policy.
Another example of stupid zero tolerance polices. Fired shell casings present no threat to anyone. Zero tolerance policies exist only because bureaucrats are cowards afraid that if they use discretion they'll get sued. The only way to break them is to sue and show them that such cowardice has it consequences as well. Hope the mother sues and wins.
