1 Million Xbox Live Players Banned

The fact that Microsoft booted over a million clients from its live gaming service for playing bootleg games on their Xboxes doesn't bother me. Downloading the games is illegal. What does bother me is how they knew these people had modified their Xboxes so they could play bootlegs. Did Microsoft put some hardware or software in their product designed to narc on the owners? And if they did this with their game boxes what little suprises are there in their operating systems. Linux is sounding better every day.

Update: I think I had a duh moment. If the banned used the bootlegs to play online that is probably how Microsoft IDed them. If not my concerns still stand.
