David Drake RIP

I read David Drake's Hammer's Slammers stories when they were published in paperback  in 1979. I continued to read his books but stopped reading the Hammer's Slammers stuff because it just damned depressed me. His other stuff I continued to read. It was Redliners that lured me back to his military science fiction and from that point I would read anything he wrote. Many, I reread. I was lucky enough to meet him once at the Foundations Edge bookstore in Chapel Hill NC. He was kind enough to take a few minutes for a fan. He will be missed but never forgotten.

It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I still say the series should have ended with the Last Crusade. I won't say whether it was better than Crystal Skull. I'll have to mull on that one for a while. I'm a sucker for time travel movies. Not awlful just not special and at least they decided not to kill him off and replace him with HER. Like I said, I'll mull it over a bit.

The allegedly “pro-Palestine” movement’s main objective is to destroy the State of Israel, for various reasons–antisemitism, Islamism, pan-Arabism, hatred of the West. The welfare of actual Palestinians is at best a secondary concern. This, among others things, is why you see virtually no voices who claim to be concerned with Palestinian well-being calling on Hamas to surrender. Hamas’s surrender would surely be good for the Palestinians. It would end the war and its attendant destruction, and it would mean that some new group would govern Gaza, and that new government could hardly be worse than the corrupt, Islamist, war-mongering dictatorship of Hamas. But, and here’s the key, Hamas’s surrender would also benefit Israel. And the “movement” is happy to sacrifice both immediate and long-term Palestinian well-being to harm Israel. - David Bernstein

David Brock was and is an opportunist. He did the exact same thing for the Left as he did for the Right. I suspect the switch over was as opportunistic as his previous behavior. My hope is that Elon Musk can give it to him good and hard.
