Prometheus

About the only way I can go to the theater these days and actually watch the movie stress free are the midnight showings. The estranged wife and the kids are all in bed and the likelihood of a crisis of some sort is slight. I'm glad I went to see Prometheus at the late/early show. I've seen all four of the Alien movies in the theater. The Alien V. Predator films were seen on DVD. Honestly, the only two worth a damn were Alien and Aliens. The others wasted the premise. Prometheus looks great on the big screen. With Prometheus Ridley Scott, the original director, comes back to the franchise and boy can you tell a difference. The plot keeps you interested and, toward the end, on the edge of your seat. Mysteries from the original film are revealed but without going over the same ground. All of the performers do a stand up job. My favorites are Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, and Idris Elba. It's well worth the cost of the ticket.

Speaker Boehner, stop dragging your ass...

...and issue the contempt citation to Holder, or admit you've no interest in bringing the Obama administration to task for Fast and Furious and take the consequences. It's time for this political theater to end.

In Virginia, a man shoots himself in the leg with his brand new .45-caliber Rock Island Armory 1911 pistol.

Botetourt County Sheriff’s Deputy T. Francis said the Fincastle man had stopped in his vehicle just after 6 p.m. in a parking lot in the 5200 block of Lee Highway in Troutville after buying the gun. The man, whom officials did not name, “was unfamiliar with the operations of the firearm,” Francis said.

I guess he didn't know that if you pull the trigger the pistol goes boom. Fortunately, it appears it's not a fatal lesson.

Of course, a larger caliber that requires less care with shot placement is a far better caliber than the .22. There was a good reason 20th Century police went from the .32 to the .38 and now to .40′s and .45′s. In an emergency, you really do not have time to pick your shot placement.

Snow White and the Huntsman

It's ok. Walking out of the theater I couldn't help but think the trailer was better than the movie. Kristen Stewart isn't all that good an actress. That comment applies to her performances in the Twilight movies as well. I liked Chris Hemsworth's performance and hope to see in other films. I always like Charlize Theron, but she's not necessarily worth spending the eight bucks. At no point in the movie did I care what was happening to the characters. At no point was I on the edge of my seat.
