Oh my God...

...there's gonna be blood in the streets or maybe on the front porch or... At least that's what North Carolinians Against Gun Violence (NCGV) claim. It's not theCastle Doctrine. It's the make my day law or the shoot first law. As far as I'm concerned if NCGV are agin HB 74, that's good enough reason to call your representative in support.

Self-Defense in Canada.

In January, a Canadian was charged with pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm and two counts of careless storage of a firearm after he fired warning shots at thugs throwing Molotov cocktails at his house. Now local prosecutors have dropped all but the storage charges. Apparently, they doubted a jury would convict. Common Sense and self-defense may still be possibilities in Canada.

ATF Statement

A multi-disciplinary panel of law enforcement professionals is going to review the ATF's Project Gunwalker. Here's the official statement. I like this version better.

These guys need a home

We found these cute guys wandering around where I work on their own. The Wake County Animal Shelter has them now. If you are local to Raleigh, North Carolina and looking for a pup that's gonna grow up into a big fricking dog, go check 'em out. Their ID numbers are 49004 and 49005.

Update: Looks like they were adopted.

More lunacy from MA

After mandating microstamping technology on all semi-automatic firearms you'd figure the People's Republic of Massachusetts couldn't one up themselves anymore. You'd be wrong.
MA: “Global Positioning System Locators in Firearms Study Commission is hereby established for the purpose of making an investigation and study relative to the feasibility of placing Global Positioning System (“GPS”) locators in firearms”

NC HB 181: The We Are Better Than Thee Bill

Rep. Stephen LaRoque has proposed a change in North Carolina's concealed carry law that would allow "state, federal and local elected officials with a concealed carry permit to take their weapons anywhere it's not forbidden by federal law". He claims he'd rather apply this standard to all CCW permit holders, but since that's not feasible this is a a "good first step". I'd have more respect for LaRoque if he had the guts to go for the gold and there has never been a better time to try in North Carolina. His "good first step" smells of lip service and excuses. HB 181 is a bad bill as is any law that places politicians above those they serve. Any legislator that supports this trash needs to start looking for another job. You need to call your representatives and make sure they understand that fact.

There is a local leftist weekly...

...that prints an election guide come election time. I usually use it so I know who to vote agin. These guys want leftist twits to boycott the Koch brothers. The Koch brothers are giving the left fits. Apparently, if you are an industrialist and support libertarian ideals you aren't allowed to support your cause. In any event they give a list of products to boycott. Go buy instead.

A Zero Tolerance Moment...

A student in Virginia has been suspended for opening a door for a woman with her hands full. The school has a security system and students and staff have been forbidden to open doors for people entering the school. I can almost see the reasoning here. You can't maintain the integrity of the system if people keep circumventing it. It's the jump to suspension that pisses me off. It's the inflexibility of the bureaucratic mind. Why not a counseling or in-school detention. Why suspension? Even in this incident I say zero tolerance policies are the result of bureaucratic cowardice.

Restaurant Carry in NC

In the State of North Carolina off duty police officers can carry concealed anywhere in the State with the exception of Federal property and under the influence of alcohol or any other impairing substance. Tis my opinion that a "civilian" concealed carry permit should allow the holder to do the same. I won't hold my breath until it happens. The CCW permit in North Carolina has so many restrictions as to where you can carry it's the next thing to useless. That's also my opinion. I guess it's better than nothing but not by much. There's a move in the North Carolina House to ease at least one of those restrictions.

HB 111 would allow a CCW holder to carry in a restaurant whether the restaurant serves alcohol or not. It won't effect the prohibition against carrying while under the influence and it means you don't have to leave your pistol in the car or at home just to eat out and stay legal. There are those warn us of gunfights by drunks in bars. If that's happened, the current prohibition hasn't stopped it, and I don't believe anyone who has to go through the shit they have to go through in NC to get a CCW permit is going to risk it on such stupidity. Now if we can get rid of prohibitions on carrying concealed at a parade, event that charges admission, etc, etc... Call your representatives and let them know where you stand. The antis are already warning of blood in the streets if it passes.

Seriously?

President Obama says he believes in the Second Amendment. Yeah, let's see how strong that belief is when he's not facing re-election.

It seems to me that...

...these guys over at TSA have to much time on their hands. It also seesm to me that the TSA has money to waste in a time where no one but the government has money to waste. So maybe we should call our representatives and bitch. Maybe it will do some good.
