Is the enforcement of "your" law worth someones life?

Lost in much of the media coverage of the Baltimore riots (with the politically correct hashtag “#BaltimoreUprising” enjoying precedence with the more “progressive” on Twitter) is that the catalyst for the entire disastrous chain reaction of events, that may yet spread to other “progressive” urban areas nationwide, was the arrest of Freddie Gray for possessing -- not brandishing – a “banned” knife. - David Codrea
So when you say "there ought to be a law" you are also saying "I'm OK with law enforcement using deadly force to enforce that law." In any contact between a police and "civilian" there is always a potential use of deadly force. Is the enforcement of your law worth someones life?

Recently Read and not.

With the recent Hugo bruhaha I decided to read some material from the nominated authors. I'm not voting on the award. I don't have $40 to buy a supporting membership. I got novels by Annie Bellet, Cixin Liu, John C. Wright and Ann Leckie. I honestly tried to read Leckie's Ancillary Justice, but ended up dropping it after I was about one fifth into it. I won't say the "gender neutrality" thing wasn't disconcerting 'cause it bloody well was, but mostly it bored me. I'm fine with formula. You just have to make it interesting.

What I picked up next was Sons of the Black Sword by Larry Correia. Also formula but Larry has a talent for keeping it fresh and fast and violent. Larry is never boring. It wasn't up to the MHI books. I can't quite put my finger on the why, but I have higher hopes for the next volume.

I'm now reading Ross Poldark by Winston Graham. I remember the original series on PBS in the 70's. it was probably the only thing, other than Doctor Who, that interested me on that network. Well, it's coming back so I thought I'd take a look at the original novel. I like historical fiction and so far it is holding my interest. I think Liu's novel is next.

Am I a bad person because I think this is...

...frickin' hilarious?

Heh.

Probing Attacks

The Obama Administration is looking for ways to screw gun owners and what we get are probing attacks. Our Federal bureaucrats are their soldiers in this war. They propose some new regulation and we see it and respond. They withdraw. Two recent examples were the attempt to ban the M855 5.56 cartridge and this.

American hunters would have entered burueacrat hell just to take a rifle overseas to hunt. Fortunately the NRA, the firearms industry and some Congresscritters got win and once again the enemy withdrew. This is the kind of shit we're going to be putting up with for the next two years.

They always claim there will be blood in the streets.

The prohibitionists argue that campus carry is a really bad idea because of irresponsible college kids. Ya know, blood in the dorms. EXCEPT Colorado has had campus carry for twelve years and it ain't happened. Funny how the prohibitionists are always full of shit.
Colorado Campus Carry: 12 Years, No Mass Shootings, No Crimes by Permit Holders

Good

The Supreme Court said Tuesday that police may not extend an ordinary traffic stop to seek evidence of crimes unrelated to the offense that prompted officers to pull a vehicle over.

The justices voted 6-3 in favor of a driver who was found to have methamphetamine in his car. Dennys Rodriguez was issued a warning for driving on the shoulder of a Nebraska highway and then made to wait less than 10 minutes for officers to walk a drug-sniffing dog around the car. The dog alerted and a search of the vehicle turned up the drugs.

But Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said in her majority opinion that prolonging the traffic stop beyond the time needed to deal with the initial offense was improper, even if only for a few minutes.

It doesn't end pretext stops by the police. but it does limit their utility.

So how many of your shooters had concealed carry permits?

Milwaukee Mayor, Police Chief Blame Rise in City's Gun Violence on Concealed Carry Law

A man is shot dead after accidentally crushing a toddler with his van; in the gunfire, the toddler's teenage brother suffers fatal injuries. A 17-year-old girl is slain by an errant bullet after two other girls in an argument call their boyfriends for backup. A 4-year-old girl is wounded after 13 bullets rip through her home.

So how many of these shooters had concealed carry permits? This is just bureaucrats trying to shift the blame from their own failure.

So Rahm, What do you think about concealled carry now?

Yeah, I know. Stupid question.

Perfect example of what a good gut with a gun can accomplish.

Sad Puppies Update: The Nominees Announced and Why I Refused My Nomination

Dumb enough to elect him twice.

Just How Dumb Does The President Think Americans Are?
How dumb are you to ask the question? AND no, I didn't read the editorial. I just took the cheap shot.

Makes no nevermind to me.

Senator Robert Menendez [D-NJ] was indicted by the Obama DOJ on corruption on charges the other day and he's promised to fight the good fight because he's unlikely to admit he a corrupt New Jersey politico. It's almost certain this was political payback for said Senator opposing the White House on it's Nuclear Iran shenanigans. That's the way Obama rolls. You bring a knife. I bring a gun. This time he's just feeding on his own.

Now I oppose the White House on their sell out to the mullahs as well, but guess what? That doesn't buy Menendez a damn thing. The enemy of my enemy isn't my friend. Menendez has never meet a gun control law he hasn't liked. If he gets tossed from the Senate he'll be replaced by another piece of New Jersey prohibitionist trash. I as a right leaning whatever and a gun owner don't lose a thing. On this one is one I agree we just step aside and enjoy the bloodsport. It's a win win.
