Recently Read

Some of these aren't so recently since I've not done a book post in a while. Kinda of sorta listed as read.

The Powers of the Earth and Causes of Separation by Travis J. I. Corcoran
The United States has become AOC's wet dream and a nightmare to to those who value freedom. The discovery of an anti-gravity drive allows people to flee to the moon. The fact that the governments of the Earth don't have it keeps them at a distance but the good old USA needs the esources of the moon colony to keep it from collapse. They steal the drive and invade. The residents of the Moon fight back. Both are well written, plotted and thought out. If you like Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress or the works of L. Neil Smith, you will most likely enjoy these book. Corcoran has also written two short stories, The Team and Staking a Claim in the same universe.

Firefly Season 2 by Travis J. I. Corcoran and Clark Bianco is a novella at best but well worth the read. The story is about the crew of a cross time craft who earn their living collecting and selling cultural artifacts from other timelines. The object of their desire in this story is the second season of Firefly. Hell, I'd pay for that. It's short but fun and well worth the read.

Council of Fire by Eric Flint and Walter Hunt.
The first novel in this series was written by Kevin J. Reynolds and Sarah Hoyt. It told of a world where North America was cut off from Europe and Asia by a magical barrier and the rise of magic. This goes back fifty or so years to when the split takes place. It's good stuff. Recommended.

The Adventures of Kirk Rogers: Inside the Moon and The Adventures of Kirk Rogers Book Two by C. J. Boyle.
The author borrows extensively from the works of others. You'll notice the similarities of situations and characters from science fiction novels, television, and film. If that doesn't turn you off you will probably enjoy both novels. I did.

Collapse by Kirk Schlichter
This is book four in his Kelly Turnbull series. The United States split between the communist, socialist, progressive Left and the rest of us. This time Turnbull goes back behind enemy lines to sabotage the Blue States only remaining aircraft carrier before they can turn it over to the Chinese while the Red States prepare to invade before the Chinese take over. Lots of action and dark humor. Schichter says he writes these novels not in the hope they will come true but to forewarn us in hope they won't. Highly Recommended. Read them all.

The Cunning Man by D. J. Butler
He's not a witch or sorcerer. He's a cunning man who was taught hexes and such by his grandmother and who uses them against the evil that is here and there in Utah during the Great Depression. Very well done and highly recommended. Can't wait for more.

Scattered, Smothered & Chunked by John G. Hartness
Bubba is a monster hunter for the Roman Catholic Church. His area of responsibility is the area, west of the Mississippi and south of the Mason Dixon Line or THE SOUTH. He is a redneck and proud of it. He likes guns, blades, and titty bars. He has daddy issues in that his daddy is an evil werewolf. It's fun to read and if I don't have Larry Corriea's MHI novels to read these will do as a real close second. Oh yeah, there are more. Highly Recommended.
