Doom Patrol #14 by Ron Randall and John Livesay

Well, there goes the red dot, for now, at least. You would have thought I'd have learned my lesson. I see a beautiful piece of art on eBay. I bid on it not expecting to win...and I win. Oh well, I've been wanting a piece of art by Ron Randall. Usually I bid and lose OR the dealer can't find the piece I want in his extensive collection despite the fact he has it posted on his website BUT here's a nice piece for more money OR he just sold it and here's a nice piece for more money. The consolation here is it is a beautiful piece of artwork and the payment goes to a good cause.

His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik

I picked this up on a whim and it sat in the digital pile waiting for quite a while. Other novels had priority over, to me, an unknown author. I had nothing else to read the other day and picked it up again. I'm now reading the second book in the series. An alternate history of the Napoleonic Wars with dragons. Wow. It is good in every respect and highly recommended. The current price is $2.99 on Kindle. That's hard to beat.

ABC cancels "Last Man Standing"...

...but it wasn't because of the lead actor on the show is a conservative and the show leans conservative. This is their third highest watched series and they cancel it and leave standing shows that barely scrape by? No, its not politics. My ass.

Silence by Mercedes Lackey and Cody Martin

I don't read much by Mercedes Lackey other than her collaborations with Eric Flint and David Freer, which are top notch. I got this in one of the Baen bundles. This is an urban fantasy in one of her series that I've not read any of the other books. Good Elves V. Bad Elves in a small Maine town. I enjoyed it, but probably not enough to get to seek out the other books in the series.

NY Post Fake News Alert: People are not buying guns!
People are still buying guns, just not as many, or at least not as many through FFLs. Who's to say private sales haven't rocketed? Stew on that thought you lying bastards.

Escape from Heaven by J. Neil Schulman

I read and enjoyed Schulman's Alongside Night and Rainbow Cadenza. Then nothing. He produced some non-fiction, but no novels until this in 2001. It was self-published and I didn't have the money to buy it. At the time I had to rely on the local library for my reading material and despite requests the librarian wasn't inclined to purchase it. I noticed the other day it was available for Kindle and snapped it up. The basic plot is a DJ is assigned a mission from God. It was nice to have another novel by Schulman. I liked it and recommend it. I'd really like to see more, but it seems he's shifted his creative impulse to film lately, and that's a shame.

Eerie #1 and #9

Since I'm on the comic kick at the moment. I post items on eBay for a friend who runs a comic shop. I posted several issues of a reprint title from the 60's titled Eerie from a company called I. W. Enterprises. Of the comics I posted, two covers by Wally Wood stood out. Enjoy.

The scan is from the guy I purchased it from. Thus the stamp on the image. The strip is from later in the run of Johnny Hazard. Johnny Hazard has been called the poor man's Steve Canyon. It was written and drawn by Frank Robbins. I first saw Robbins' work on the Batman title then later as filler for several Marvel titles and The Invaders. I wasn't all that impressed until I picked up a few Johnny Hazard reprints. This, in my opinion, was where Robbins did his best work. Good solid adventure stories with art and stories that was very reminiscent of Milton Caniff's best work. It's good stuff and recommended if you can find it.

The Gods of Sagittarius by Eric Flint and Mike Resnick

I like Eric Flint's novels. I've read Mike Resnick before b,ut he isn't a favorite. I do think the anthologies he has edited are top notch. I can't say I really liked this novel. There was a level of silliness that got int he way of the story and characters. It didn't work for me.

It is what they do...

Lie.
Study: 16 children hospitalized daily with gunshot injuries

In older children, the background changes. Most of those between 15 and 19 were shot in an intentional assault, according to Silver's research. This age group makes up the largest number of victims, more than 83 percent.

The lie is in classifying 18 and 19 year olds as "children". If they can vote or serve in the military they are adults. Also they neglect to be specific as to the circumstances of their injuries. What do ya bet that most of these "children" were shot by other "children" of a differing gang affiliation. If they make adult decisions they might as well be adults. Adults.

Ummm...OK.

Where's a pokeball when you need one or two or a dozen.

That's truly strange.

Gotta keep that finger off the trigger.

18-year-old shoots himself after robbing convenience store, CMPD says
then he went to the local hospital and claimed to have been robbed. He took the bag of money he got from the convenience store with him. Dumbass.

Hate will do that to you.
