...for “solving” our current financial woes, and FDR is credited with ending the Great Depression. Personally i think his role model is Al Capone, but I digress. The question is whether the Great Depression was the result of a lack of regulation of financial markets or government intervention by first the Hoover then the Roosevelt Administrations. The popular narrative was always that those unregulated financial markets caused the problem and Roosevelt saved our asses. I’d always thought it was WWII and its aftermath that ended the Depression despite FDR. If you’re one of those conspiracy buffs that believe that Roosevelt finagled us into a world war them maybe he does get some credit for the save. In this column Thomas Sowell offers us one page as evidence that government intervention was the culprit. I guess it would be too much for anyone in the Obama Administration to read it and see the light?
