Cameras: The New Guns

As in, fine for us, but not for you.

Cops in several States, aided and abetted by local prosecutors, are charging citizens, who record cops carrying out their duties, with violations of the local wiretap laws. These laws were not enacted to punish people for catching the police embarrassing the crap out of themselves or breaking the law themselves but that in essence is what they’re doing here. These prohibitions amazingly do not apply to the police recording citizens without their approval.

This is utter bushwa. Police Officers have no expectation of privacy in the normal course of their duties and those worried about who is recording their actions are most likely doing something they shouldn’t be.

H/T to Uncle.
