A Zero Tolerance Moment...

A student in Virginia has been suspended for opening a door for a woman with her hands full. The school has a security system and students and staff have been forbidden to open doors for people entering the school. I can almost see the reasoning here. You can't maintain the integrity of the system if people keep circumventing it. It's the jump to suspension that pisses me off. It's the inflexibility of the bureaucratic mind. Why not a counseling or in-school detention. Why suspension? Even in this incident I say zero tolerance policies are the result of bureaucratic cowardice.
