Isn't one the myths of the gun control movement...
... that if someone tries to defend themselves with a gun the bad guy will take it away from them and then use it on them? It happened the other way 'round here. The cops got him when he went to the hospital for treatment. Too bad the stupid git lived. H/T to The Duck.

Well, at some time in the scuffle the man with the gun, and I use the word "man" loosely was acting defensively, and the gun was then taken from him, so the canard still flies.
In Canada shooting the man who would have shot you so you don't have to worry about being shot for resisting a lawful robbery would get you for attempted murder, and with an illegal gun, too.
Maybe somebody ought to suggest that to the Queen's prosecutors in Canada, as that little added fillup ouught to make nice headlines.
