Negligent Discharge

As the officer jumped out of the way, his gun accidentally discharged.
No. Try it this way.
As the officer jumped out of the way, he pulled the trigger of his service weapon and shot himself in the leg.
That sounds about right.

Keep your finger off the trigger, and you won't have a negligent discharge.

In the Car.

#3 daughter treated me to a showing of The Secret world of Arrietty yesterday afternoon. Another excellent addition to Studio Ghibli's catalog, but that's actually not the point of this post. As we were nearing the end of the ride home a rabbit tried to commit suicide by running under the car. Between me and the rabbit we managed to miss one another. D3 was reading as she is apt to do as we ride from one place to another. It's nice to see that Dad has rubbed off in at least one aspect.

Me: Hey did you see the rabbit?

  D3: What rabbit?

Me: The one I almost just ran over.

D3: You almost ran over Thumper?!

Me: If I'd known it was Thumper I'd have tried harder.

  D3: Daaaady!

Man Stops Burglar, Gets Arrested.

Warning shots are never a good idea, and walking up to the burglar, pointing the gun at him, and telling him to stop or else would have probably produced the same result. Regardless, this is a fucked up situation. The cops should've been shaking his hand not cuffing both.

On Demand

Sometimes I get off work in the morning and decide to watch one of the shows I follow On TWC's On Demand. Usually about two thirds into it, I fall asleep. If I'm lucky The show is on CBS and I can fast forward to where I konked out. If not I have to watch the whole damn thing again because God forbid I be able to fast forward through the commercials. I understand this isn't Time Warner's fault[surprise!]. ABC, FOX, and NBC get the blame. Ya know guys, I don't really need to watch your shows to entertain myself and the more difficult you make it for me to enjoy your shows the less likely I am to care what happens to Castle and what's her name. That means I won't buy the fucking DVDs either you gits.

Because a man was arrested for...

...defending himself, he lost his job, his home, and most of his property. He should have never been arrested much less prosecuted. Seems to me someone should have to answer for that "crime".

RIP: John Severin

He passed away on 12 February. He was the last of the EC artists and probably the best. He was producing almost to the last. I will really miss not getting new Severin.

Damn, damn, damn.

I feel naked without my Kindle.

I've been using my Kindle all day without any problems and I get to work and boot it up and the screen had gone mammaries up. The screen was lined with an image frozen on it. I went online to troubleshoot. I rebooted it. Nothing happened. I plugged it in to charge. Nothing happened. I called Amazon. I'll say this for those guys, a new replacement Kindle is already en route.

Stealth Gun Control

The President is not the Second Amendment's friend. Anyone who buys his claims that he is out and out wrong. Any bills he's signed that might seem to "support" our Second Amendment rights are meant to push a false impression prior to the next election. Open opposition to the Second Amendment would just make his reelection more difficult than it is already going to be. So he tries to push along what measures he can behind the scenes like his attempt to the military's selling of once fired brass. His 2012/2013 budget is another example of this approach. Fortunately for us, the NRA/ILA pays attention to the details the rest of us might miss. President Obama's budget is probably dead on arrival. That doesn't mean he and his minions won't try to hide this stuff in some other bill later. It's times like these I'm glad to have the NRA on our side.

Starbucks Buycott

I didn't male it to Starbucks yesterday, but drove by this morning as soon as I got off work. At 6:30 a.m. business seemed to be rocking, and the hot chocolate was fine. I suspect the boycott won't even be a noticeable blip. Me, I'll be going back. Even if Starbucks doesn't give us direct support, I'm OK with neutrality in this circumstance. The antis should have been as well. It would have saved them embarrassment.

Yesterday...

...I got off work at 6:30 a.m. intending to take care of a few things before I went to sleep. I sat on the sofa and that was that until noon. I spent the rest of the day getting a new rim for my car and two new front tires then back to work. The new rim was courtesy of the asshat who left two large pavers in the middle of Hillsborough Road and the bent rim that resulted when I ran over one. What caliber for....

I stopped caring about Star Wars...

after about the fourth re-edit of the original. George Lucas should have been a member of the Soviet Politburo.

Wrecking Ball

Bill Bell: MAIG Mayor

Looks like Bill Bell, Mayor of Durham and member of Mayors Against Legal Illegal Guns is working toward paying off his debt to Mayor Mikey Bloomberg of NYC.
During Monday's annual State of the City address, Durham Mayor Bill Bell called on lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws.

Bell told city officials he wanted to work with the city's attorney and the General Assembly to pass a law cracking down on people who illegally fire guns within city limits.

Durham already has a city ordinance that prohibits discharging a firearm within the city limits for all the good it does. Making it a State law won't do any more to reduce gun crime than the local ordinance. What Bill Bell sees as crime fighting the rest of us recognize for what it is: gun control. Maybe what he should do is give the local police the tools they need to do their jobs.

Interesting

NC appeals court: Weapons center is not a school
Didn't know they were having problems with the neighbors. I'd be interested to read the decision and see how the court's definition of what is and isn't a school might change how weapon on campus laws are administered in this state. In any event, here's hoping Tiger Swan appeals and wins.

Sorry I'm late.

I got off work this morning and slept till two in the afternoon. I've been running ever since. I finally took down my estranged wife's Christmas tree. Hey, we've had decorations up into March before. Just did find time to sit down in front of the PC. I ignored the Superbowl as promised, but did look at the commercials on Hulu. My favorite was the VW fat dog commercial with the Star Wars ending. Ir was cute and that works for me. Oh, and the M&M one. I liked that.

Bought and Paid For?

The Mayor of the city in which I live, William Bell, received a $4000 campaign donation from none other than Mayor Mikey Bloomberg of NYC. For those of you who don't know Bloomberg founded Mayors Against Legal Illegal Guns. Bell is a member of that group.  Four thousand dollars is almost a third of the donations made to Bell's reelection campaign. I also don't believe a person like Bloomberg gives away something for nothing. So what the residents of Durham North Carolina need to ask themselves is whose interests are Bill Bell looking after: theirs of Mikey Bloomberg's?

MAIG ad to run during Super Bowl.

It's not like I was going to watch the Super Bowl anyway. Now I have one less reason.
