(v)(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), on and after the date that is 180 days after the date of enactment of this subsection, it shall be unlawful for any person to import, sell, manufacture, transfer, or possess, in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, a trigger crank, a bump-fire device, or any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is designed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi- automatic rifle but not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun.Should we worry about this? I'm generally agin giving them anything. ANYTHING. BUT I can live with giving them bump stocks as long as we get something in return. The problem with this bill and the reason it needs to die in committee is the second half of that paragraph.
or any part, combination of parts, component, device, attachment, or accessory that is designed or functions to accelerate the rate of fire of a semi- automatic rifle but not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun. It is not specific enough as to what it will prohibit. It is too open to interpretation by our enemies and can be made to refer to pretty much anything that improves the operation of a semi-automatic rifle. It has a built in slippery slope. So, not just no, Hell no.
Another reason to oppose any legislation offered this soon after the events in Las Vegas is legislation offered in haste is bad legislation. There may be things that can be done to prevent further mass shootings. Truly, I don't think there are. If there are, they should be determined after all the facts are known. The Left doesn't care about facts, only seizing an opportunity to further their gun control agenda.
Call you Senators and let them know to vote against this.
