The Bloomberg administration announced on Friday that it was moving to simplify the process for New Yorkers to obtain gun permits, thus speeding up a set of byzantine licensing requirements that gun-rights advocates have long criticized as among the most restrictive in the country....and that surprises the hell out of me. Bloomberg and his MAIG are becoming the major thorn in the side of gun owners while the other anti-gun organizations seem to have become mostly irrelevant. So why the back step? With a probable loss for Chicago in McDonald v. Chicago, Bloomberg probably realizes New York City is next on the hit list and easing restrictions might help them keep more when it's their turn to lose. Here's hoping not.
H/T to Joe Huffman.
