Lying to further their political agenda
The one has not one damn thing to do...
...with the other.
FedEx shooting comes days after Georgia “Guns Everywhere” bill signedMaybe the writer might have pointed out the the shooting took place in a posted facility where employees and visitors were prohibited from having weapons to defend themselves instead of implying a connection that doesn't exist. Too much to ask, I guess.

The difference between "Grassroots" and "Astroturf".
Gun Rights activists pay their own way. The Everytown "protestors" are on Bloomberg's dole.
Ten days after Michael Bloomberg announced a $50 million investment in gun control and proclaimed the National Rifle Association should be afraid of him, the Bloomberg-backed Everytown for Gun Safety group is taking the fight directly to NRA — picking up a chunk of the tab for hundreds of activists and gun violence survivors to attend the annual NRA convention in Indianapolis. If that's the best support you can buy, you've already lost.

All good reads. Now I'm rereading David Drake's and S. M. Stirling's General series. It's been awhile but I don't see anything new I like out there right now.

If you have to pony up 50 millions dollars...
...to get support for your agenda, Mikey, then it ain't grass roots. Its astroturf.
Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence, an organization he hopes can eventually outmuscle the National Rifle Association.

Really?
Chick Little lives.
"If the word got out or if people knew they could come to Tennessee and carry a weapon, I'm sure that armed robberies are going to increase," said Claiborne County Sheriff David Ray in a WBIR report. The bill passed the Tennessee Senate but still has to get through their House. I suspect the opposition of some Sheriff's has more to do with losing say over who gets to carry and permit fees than the concerns noted above.

My son registered to vote today.

No ID required. Fill it out and mail it in or drop it off. The form did ask for either your Driver's License number or the last four of your Social Security number, so I guess there may be some verification of some sort. Scary isn't it.

Good.
So, in New Jersey, a former firefighter heard someone rumbling around outside his parent's house. Thinking it might be a burglar, he grabbed his shotgun and went to investigate. Turned out it was the local cops looking for a bad guy. They figured they'd found one and arrested him for possession of a firearm with an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault by pointing a firearm. The local police chief said he should have called 911. The possible sentence was ten years in prison.
Fortunately, the jury thought different, and found him not guilty.

Not.
More guns equal less crime in Chicago as murder rates plummetUPDATE [4/6/2014]: Cops: No charges for man with concealed carry permit who fired at armed male
UPDATE [4/9/2014]: Ah, that's one way to lower your crime stats. Gotta wonder just how much of that is going on.
