Health insurance ain't auto insurance

President Obama insists on comparing health insurance and auto insurance.
What it's saying is ... that we're not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you any more than the fact that right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance," he said. "Nobody considers that a tax increase. People say to themselves, that is a fair way to make sure that, if you hit my car, that I'm not covering all the costs.
The fact that he's intentionally ignoring is I only have to purchase auto insurance if I own a car. The comparison fails because of that unfortunate fact. Sorry, now stop it.

No, you only have to purchase auto insurance if you own a car AND drive it on a public road.

True. The comparison still fails.

Also, you can post a cash bond in many or most states if you don't carry insurance.

Sort of like paying for your own medical care if you don't have insurance....wow what a concept.
