NC Senate Passes Castle Doctrine.

SB 34 has passed in the Senate. Now we have to get it through the House. This was the roadblock last year. The committee chair who blocked it last year isn't chair anymore so maybe we'll get it through this year. Call your representatives and let them know where you stand on this.

Rule 3 Violation?

A high-ranking trooper accidentally fired her service weapon last week at the headquarters of the N.C. Highway Patrol in downtown Raleigh.

Maj. Patricia Poole, who commands the patrol's administrative services staff, was inside a bathroom in the Archdale Building when her .357 caliber Smith & Wesson discharged.

No one was injured."

The Highway Patrol's spokesman dismissed the incident with "Stuff happens, ... When you go to the restroom, you have about 10 pounds you have to take down to do ... whatever."

Yes, but it shouldn't. They're properly trained unlike civilian gun owners. I'm also curious as to whether it happened when she was dropping her drawers for "whatever" or when holstering afterwards. My bet would be on number two.

The Tooth Fairy

My ten year old daughter is convinced the Tooth Fairy stole her Nintendo DS. She had it to and from her speech therapy appointment. The next day she couldn't find it. She's looked all over the house and my van. No Nintendo DS. Why the Tooth Fairy? She lost a tooth and left it under her pillow the night after her therapy appointment. The next morning her tooth and Nintendo were gone and a crisp five dollar was left under the pillow. She's a kid and it only stands to reason. We can't convince her otherwise. If we tell her the Tooth Fairy isn't real then she'll doubt the existence of the Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, and God. God help the Tooth Fairy next time my youngest loses a tooth.

McKissick on the Castle Doctrine

The State Representative from Durham, Floyd McKissick has a problem with the proposed Castle Doctrine

Durham Democrat Floyd McKissick argued against the inclusion of vehicles, asking what would happen if a nervous driver was approached in a rough neighborhood.

The person knocking on the window might just be a panhandler, a window-washer, or someone asking directions, McKissick said. “But if you’re already apprehensive, you might just decide to shoot ‘em without really wondering about what their true motives are. And once that person’s dead, they’re not going to be able to testify about their intent.

"What if?"Might?" "They'll be blood in the streets..." Those concerns of the possible have been brought up every time in every State where self-defense legislation of this sort has been tendered, and ya know what? It doesn't come to past. The problem here is an assumption by a anti-gun politician that all gun owners are either nervous nellies with a hair trigger, violent sociopaths looking for their first kill, or, well, Representative McKissick and thus incapable of telling the difference between a panhandler and a violent thug intent on breaking into a person's car. Just because you can't manage to tell the difference Floyd don't mean we can't.

It seems to me...

...that prostitution is also legal in Washington DC and every State Capitol in the nation. Maybe Harry should set his front sights on that variation of the oldest profession before he worries about the flesh peddlers in Nevada. Except then he'd be putting a legislative gun to his own temple.

NC: Castle Doctrine Update

It's out of Committee and we should have a vote int he Senate as soon as tomorrow. This is SB 34 but not as originally introduced. It was amended and now vehicles as well as the home and has a "stand your ground" provision. This makes it a much stronger bill and worthy of our support. John Richardson has more here. Call your Senators and ask them to support this bill.

Unintended Consequences

The Democrat Senators in Wisconsin on the lam to prevent passage of legislation that limits the unions may wish they had stayed. A quorum is required only for fiscal legislation. Just imagine for a moment the mischief in which a simple majority might engage? Heh! CCW anyone?

Shooty Goodness

Some friends and I got to shoot a Thompson M1928A1 with a Cutts compensator this morning at the range. Ummmm.
