Gun Control: White Men's Law
In the South, at least, gun control at the turn of the 20th century was intended to keeps guns out of the hands of blacks, poor whites, Union members, and Republicans.

At the time of the writing of the Bill of Rights, laws to keep guns out of the hands of persons of color were already on the books and had been for about 150 years.

Enforcement, of course, varied a lot.

I didn't say but that refers specifically to NC's pistol permit system. Jim Crow at it's worst and we still have it.
