The second in a series but I haven't read the first yet. A political thriller of sorts and the protagonist and a female FBI Agent pursue a murder mystery that turns into much more. Collins is a consistent writer and I can't say I ever read anything by him I didn't like. I liked this. I'll be loading the first in the series onto my Kindle and reading it in the near future. Oh and fair warning, if leftish politics bug you, this may as well.

Thanks for this nice review. Some conservatives did not like SUPREME JUSTICE, because they interpreted it as left-leaning...and there may be some truth to that, but basically I wanted to make the point that my protagonist was a patriot who would risk his life to protect those he did not agree with. I made the mistake of not overtly revealing that the secondary lead character, Patti Rogers, is a conservative, which I corrected in FATE OF THE UNION. Funny thing is that Joe Reeder was originally conceived as a conservative forced to defend liberal justices -- in a way, it didn't matter which he was as long as the situation required him to aid the opposing camp. I eventually decided that he should be a slightly left-of-center liberal (he detests his daughter's progressive boy friend) because the thriller would play better if he were -- that is, it made the action go smoother and faster if in the near future the courts had paved the way for the police to have less restrictions.
