In
Wake Forest, a mother with a concealed carry permit who was in a retail store had her pistol in her purse. When her two year old reached into her purse she grabbed the weapon. The pistol discharged discharged into her hand. It is unclear from the story whether she, her child, or shifting an unholstered weapon in a purse containing other objects caused the weapon to discharge. According to the story the woman is expected to be charged with
failure to secure a firearm from a minor.
For what its worth,* It seems to me that whether the police can make it stick will hinge on whether the child discharged the firearm or not since that's required by the statute.
Anyway, the lady needs to keep her weapon in a sleeve or holster when its in her purse.
* Not much in that I'm not an attorney.
[UPDATE] No charges.
