NOT getting my hopes up...

...but to be fair there's not a lot here to judge it by in the ad. As much as I loved the comic, I can't see myself warming to it.

If he could, he would.

Obama: "Please Do Not Believe This Notion That I'm Out To Take Everyone's Guns Away"
Look, if Obama could with the pass of his pen ban firearms and force us to turn 'em all in, he would. Instead he takes the incremental approach because that's all he has. He is not our friend and never will be.

Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie [2015]

I'm a big fan of this series both the theactrical films and the television series. Actually I think I like Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1st andf 2nd Gig best. They are all good solid science fiction. Last year a new four part series was released and this movies carries that version on. I doubt it will see a theater local to me so I'll have to wait for a DVD. Still looking forward to it.

Heinlein Quote

The police of a state should never be stronger or better armed than the citizenry. An armed citizenry, willing to fight, is the foundation of civil freedom. - Robert A. Heinlein

This should surprise no one.

After all, it's Obama's Department of Justice and there is no damn way any charges are going to be brought against one of his political operatives.
Justice Dept.: No criminal charges for ex-IRS official

Backpedaling

But it is a winning strategy
...but it's not she doesn't want it. She wants to be elected more. Once elected she'll wait until term two to push for gun control much like the current twit in office. Politics as usual.

It's what they do.

Lie.
The NRA, which acts as the mouthpiece of gun manufacturers and sellers, has held a virtual stranglehold over the debate on gun control in the US over the past 20 years. It exerts its influence by mobilizing activists at local level and by rating politicians according to whether they are, in the NRA’s reckoning, gun-friendly.
The NRA represents gun owners NOT manufacturers and gun owners have made their choice as to the organization they wish to represent them. It ain't the AstroTurf organizations created by the Left, and it won't be whatever false fronts Hillary or Bloomberg come up with.

Blondie Needs Help. [Bumped Again]

So my granddaughters dog, Blondie, got a gash on her neck that required emergency surgery to the tune of about $900. This has put a considerable strain on my daughter's finances. I'm not one to bleg, but if you have a few dollars to spare. Any help is appreciated. My daughter set up a Go Fund Me account at this link: https://de.gofund.me/kc4pr6ws.

UPDATE: She been back to the vet. The wound is healing fine. You guys have been more than generous. Thanks and any help is appreciated.

It's not paranoia when you guys really are out to get us.

The Democratic primary front-runner accused the nation's largest gun lobby of spreading propaganda to keep its dues-paying constituents paranoid.
No Hillary, it's not the NRA spreading rumors that makes gun owners paranoid about the Left's incessant push for gun control. It's the Left's incessant push for gun control. It's not paranoia when you guys really are out to get us.

Halloween approaches and the nuts are out...

...but I'm not talking about the kids in costumes. It's the zero tolerance bureaucrats who are going out where the buses don't go.
SWAT team descends on CO school over student’s Halloween costume/
She wore a trench coat and a gas mask to school as a costume and got interrogated by the police, suspended, and may be expelled for her trouble. No weapons or anything that might be confused for one on display or her person. This is what bureaucrats do instead of think.

The Martian

I liked the book better, but it was a good adaptation. Damon was fine as were the rest of the cast. They mucked with the ending a bit for reasons that make no sense other than in Hollywood. Whatever. It is worth seeing.

The Martian by Andrew Weir

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Not sure I should have read it before seeing the movie. Can't really visualize Matt Damon as Watney. Oh well, but definitely read the book.

Good luck with that.

My only suggestion is a small addition to that proposed legislation. It would require anyone who votes for it to be the first one through the door when Step #5 comes around.

But, but...

Senate Democrats gathered Thursday on the steps of the Capitol surrounded by about a dozen armed guards to announce a new push for tougher gun-control laws.

Petty Little Tyrant

So the nut job shooters in Oregon, South Carolina, Colorado and Arizona all passed background checks when they bought their guns from federally licensed firearms dealers. Obamas' response is to require private sellers who sell large numbers of guns to subject their buyers to background checks. This will decease mass shootings how? It isn't about decreasing mass shootings or gun violence. It's about finding an excuse to push gun control rather than finding a solution. And, once again, since he can't get his way the he goes the executive order route.

It's what they do.

Spout out bullshit statistics as fact when they're not. It ain't the first time Prez has done it. Won't be the last.

Yawn

Hillary Clinton has laid out a sweeping gun-control plan
It looks to be of the try harder variety. Only for the true believers.

When the guys on your side don't buy your bullshit...

...you know you are in trouble...
Is Barack Obama correct that mass killings don't happen in other countries?

Mostly False

..but the gun grabbers ahve never let the fact that their claims are bullshit keep them from repeating it. They subscribe to the "tell a lie long enough and people will believe it" approach.

Useless

The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut's Windlass by Jim Butcher

I tried the first novel in Butcher's Dresden Files sometime back. It was OK but I never returned to the series and have pretty much avoided his work until now. My daughter loves Butcher's work. She suggested I give it a try and with nothing better to read I did. Wow! It sucked me right in, and it was a read until done book. Now I'll have to go back and reevaluate his older books.

One Bright Star To Guide Them by John C. Wright

Didn't do a thing for me.

The Number of the Beast by Robert A. Heinlein

I read this for the first time in 1980 and never picked it up again. The hype has always been this was Heinlein's worst. I didn't enjoy it as much as his others and felt no need to read it again. After reading the Heinlein biography I decided to give it another try. If it is Heinlein's worst, it is still better than most of the science fiction currently being published. I enjoyed parts of it. In places it dragged. I doubt I'll read it again.

A Call To Arms by David Weber, Timothy Zahn, and Tom Pope

Couldn't put it down. My only complaint was there wasn't enough of it.

On Mass Shootings

I certainly don't mean to minimize the suffering of the Oregon victims and their families, but the shooting spree is not a reflection of more deadly times. Consider the facts.

According to a careful analysis of data on mass shootings (using the widely accepted definition of at least four killed), the Congressional Research Service found that there are, on average, just over 20 incidents annually. More important, the increase in cases, if there was one at all, is negligible. Indeed, the only genuine increase is in hype and hysteria. - James Alan Fox
