GRNC Counter-Protest in Raliegh...

...against Bloomberg's Demanding Moms. They're trying to kill HB562 and lying their asses off to do it. If at all possible be there. Lets help Bloomberg piss away more money to no avail.

Details here.

"What's Opera, Doc?"

Every time I hear Ride of the Valkyries I think of a bit I saw Robin Williams do of Elmer Fudd in Ride of the Valkyries. I have looked for it far and wide on the internetz to no avail. The best I can come up with is what was, more likely than not, the inspiration, and it's pretty damn good.

In case You Tube yanks it, there is another copy here.

I just finished I, Ripper by Stephen Hunter. It has a couple of surprises at the end I wouldn't want to ruin for you, but it's an enjoyable book. Also read short stories by Vernor Vinge, Cookie Monster, and Sarah Hoyt, The Big Ship and the Wise Old Owl. Both are definitely worth reading.

'Cuz what they have already has worked out so well for them...

White House Suggests More Gun Control To Address Surge Of Shootings in Chicago, Baltimore, And New York City
...and it's not they can acknowledge the real problem:Democrats in charge.

Also Josh, there isn't a gun control law that was ever passed truly intended to keep guns from the hands of criminals unless you define criminal as law abiding citizen.

Kansas - Carry On Wayward Son

I got this in my head and it won't go away. I think it was a episode of Supernatural that kicked it off but I'm down lately and it kinda fits the mood.

And them there is this...

H.R. 2546: To prohibit the sale of a firearm to, and the purchase of a firearm by, a person who is not covered by appropriate liability
While this bill probably doesn't have a hope in hell of passage go ahead and call your representative and tell them to oppose.

Here's my problem with this "trade deal" the GOP and Obama...

...are intent on shoving down our throats. It's classified. It's secret. It's one of those "we have to pass it to see what's in it" things, and we know how well that turned out with Obamacare don't we.
GOP turns to Tea Party to win trade powers for Obama

Usagi Yojimbo #145

After three years Stan Sakai has resumed the regular continuity of Usagi Yojimbo. If you like comics it is one of the best out there. If you like samurai comics it is the best there is.

Buy and enjoy.

Straits of Hell: Destroyermen by Taylor Anderson is the tenth in the series. It's good but not quite up there with the others. The action is fine but it lacks the character development area. This is understood for the main characters. We know them all ready, but the new guys not so much. Still, recommended.

Liberator Pistol

This is the back cover G. I. Combat 230. The art is by Sam Glanzman with text by Bill Bolt.

The title of the feature is All About Small Arms Combat Album. What a difference 30 plus years make 'cuz for some reason I just don't think we'd see Marvel or DC running this feature today.

Seriously?

Gun control groups: Texas biker gang shooting a wake-up call
This only shows that Shannon Watts and her followers are too stupid to breathe without Bloomberg reminding them to inhale. Background checks would have prevented members of these outlaw bikers gangs who are up to there necks in the drug trade from getting firearms. Seriously?

A win in Wrenn v. D.C.

A Judge in the DC District Court kicked out DC's "good reason"/"proper reason requirement for issuance of a handgun permit. The problem with a "good reason" requirement is that for the prohibitionists there is never a good reason.

The decision is here. You can get the highlights at Sebastian's place

Thirty years makes a difference.

GERALDO: ‘ABC Fired Me Over a $200 Donation’, Stephanopoulos Gives $75k To Hillary & That’s OK?
Back then there was still the presumption that ABC had a news organization that wasn't a propaganda arm of the Democrat party. we are no longer under any such illusion.

Amen

Speak Free or Die
Here's a taste.
I damn sure didn’t go to war for this country twice to come home and be told by a bunch of homely chicks with daddy issues, effete literary fops scandalized by the notion of resistance to Third World pathologies, and nimrod sons of politicians playing at journalism what I can and can’t say. And I don’t think most Americans are ready to have everything they speak, write, or think perused for possible hate criminality by these same goose-stepping creeps.

New under Comics on the sidebar...

...Trekker by Rod Randall.

I remember buying this comic years ago when it was published by Dark Horse and enjoying it. Now Randall has put the original stories online and is producing new material as well. This is a good thing. Stories are about a female bounty hunter in the future.

To Bob Owens...

Safety is something that happens between your ears, not something you hold in your hands. - Lt. Col Jeff Cooper
Negligent discharges were around before there were Glocks and we'll continue to have them with whatever comes next.

Dems want to ban online sales of ammunition.

Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-N.J.) has introduced the Stop Online Ammunition Sales Act of 2015. The bill unveiled Tuesday would require federally licensed ammunitions dealers to confirm the identity of individuals who arrange to purchase ammunition over the Internet by verifying a photo ID in-person.
Unmentioned in the story is the unfair burden it would place on gun owners who don't have a gun store nearby or who use odd calibers of ammunition not available at their local shop. It making life difficult for gun owners by adding to the bureaucratic bullshit we have to go through to exercise a Constitutional right.

With Republican majorities in the House and Senate this should be dead on arrival but go ahead and call your representatives in the House and Senate to let them know where you stand on this. They need to be reminded periodically who put 'em in office.

H/T to Stranger.

It's what they do.

Paper Calls Out Sen. Tim Kaine for Regurgitating ‘Mostly False’ Gun Stats
Kudos to the Richmond Times-Dispatch for calling him on it. It'd be nice if more of the media did their job.

I finished Ross Poldark by Winston Graham and will be reading more by this author. Lui's Three Body Problem wasn't next and I'm not sure when I'll get to it. I picked up new books by Conroy, Weber, and Anderson. I started with Robert Conroy's 1882: Custer in Chains. It wasn't his best and seemed to drag on and on. I'll say it was OK. If you like Conroy, you will like this novel. If it is your first exposure to his stuff you probably should pick up another first. I also heard Conroy passed away recently. Damn shame. I really do like his books.

That's impressive.

Two bad guys tried to rob a Smoke Shop in Georgia. One held a shotgun to an employees' head. The employee turned, grabbed the shotgun, then pulled his gun and fired several rounds into one bad guy killing him. The other fled but was later picked up by police. Good work.

Tales of Honor: Bred to Kill

There is a Honor Harrington comic book now. Here is a full issue for free. I think they did a damn good job. This is issue zero for the second volume. The art is much nicer than the first round.
Preview: FCBD: Tales of Honor: Bred to Kill (FULL ISSUE)
No idea how long it will be available.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

I'm not sure what I can tell you about it without spoilers, but it was definitely worth the cost of the ticket.
