Riddle me this...

What's the point of a Second Amendment if the States can infringe it at will, and the Courts say that's just fine?

No point at all. Heller and McDonald mean jack as long as the lower courts ignore them.

Fat Chance

The president's pollster wants reporters to take a year off reporting the results of polls. Could be he's afraid of President Obama's numbers and those of the Left are only going to get worse as the mid-terms approach. Fat chance on that doing you any good. The MSM may not report the polling numbers but rest assured the they'll pop up on the internet and that's 'cause the MSM doesn't control the flow of information anymore. The truth finds a way.

It can't be any worse.

Why is Hollywood remaking Verhoeven's Starship Troopers?
Because the original sucked in almost every way imaginable. The most you can hope for in an adaptation of any book is that the screenwriters and director at least respect the original material and try to be loyal to its spirit. That putz Verhoeven didn't even try. He was a typical liberal shit laughing at what he couldn't understand. Which brings the question as to whether there is anyone in Hollywood that can? I'd as soon they leave it be.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

I have a dream. That maybe when Peter Jackson finishes with his nine hour [thereabout] version of a 322 page book, someone will sit down and edit it down to The Hobbit. OK off the soapbox. It is a good movie and I recommend that you go see it, but nine hours [thereabout] and three movies is way too long to tell the story.

47 Ronin

I really didn't now what to expect here. What I wasn't expecting was a historically accurate retelling of the story of the 47 Ronin and I wasn't surprised. What I was pleasantly surprised to get was a reasonably faithful retelling of the tale with fantasy elements that didn't distract to much from the main story. Keanu Reeves is in it but as a part of an ensemble that works. I liked it.

Cool

A Laura Croft fan film.

Recently Read

Domestic Enemies: The Reconquista - Matthew Bracken
1920 America's Great War - Robert Conroy
1636 Seas of Fortune - Iver Cooper.

I can't help but think I've forgotten one. It'll come to me...eventually.

I enjoyed all of the books listed. The best of the three was Bracken's novel. The increase in his skill as a novelist between book one and two of this trilogy was dramatic. It is highly recommended. I like Conroy's novel, but they are highly formulaic. That's not necessarily a bad thing if you like the formula which, at the moment, I do. Cooper's book was a collection of stories already published in the Grantville Gazette. I hadn't read them so it was worth my while. Be warned.

UPDATE: 12/31/2013] In comments the author advised that most of 1636 Seas of Fortune was original material. My mistake.

Lip Service

Manchin said gun owners didn’t oppose background checks in theory but were concerned that government wouldn’t stop with checks.

“What we found out is that people couldn’t trust government that they would stop there,” he said.

Which goes to show that Manchin's support of the Second Amendment has always been a facade. Government and the prohibitionists have proven time and time again that they have no intention of ever stopping until all civilain firearms ownership is banned. Any claims to the contary are just lip service.

Self-Defense Shooting in NC.

In Monroe NC two thugs attacked a man in his car in the parking lot of Tyson Foods. They pistol whipped him and he opened fire hitting and wounding both. They'll be charged. That's a happy ending of sorts.

Somehow I don't think I define...

..."the American people" the same way you do, Senator Reid. We had that conversation. Just because you didn't like the result doesn't mean you didn't lose.

Eventually, the GOP is going to screw...

...themselves out of their Conservative base. The question is do they really care. I think not. They're perfectly happy to be the minority party as long as some crumbs get tossed their way.

I hope they like the guns they have...

...because I suspect the Jersey City Police are gonna find it difficult to buy new ones. Getting any gun manufacturers to meet their demands would drive away civilian buyers. Civilian sales dwarf LEO sales. Which do you think they'll choose?

We need more of this kinda thing.

Bang! Payday for man suing cops over guns
The only way they're goona learn is when it hurts them in the pocketbook. The only thing that would have made it more effective is if the award came from the pockets of the officers and their supervisors.

Its not about crime control.

Its not about reducing "gun violence". Its about simple control...people control or pushing a progressive agenda which is the same damn thing.
While city officials argue that putting more new gun ordinances forward will reduce the threat of gun violence, Darin Goens, state liaison to Vermont for the National Rifle Association, said the proposals would do “nothing” to improve safety or reduce violent crime.

“Vermont’s current gun laws are already effective as the state has one of the lowest crime rates in the country,” Goens added.

Now the question is whether the Vermont Legislature will put these local stateists/prohibitionists in their place.

Frozen

Oh wow. Very well done.

Didn't get a damn thing done. Well at least I'm good for the next two years.

Al JaWhat?

To put the awful ratings into perspective, consider that 13,000 daily viewers is about .00029 percent of the total number of households who have access to Al Jazeera America.
So even though next to no one looks at Al Jazeera America, we can't let this pass even though acknowledging them kinda gives them, well, not credibility but something. So, go read the article so you can understand the depth of their ignorance and comment.

Even in California, you have to provide evidence...

...to support your argument in court. The State didn't and Cali gun owners won.

I guess "because" just doesn't cut it.

Now this will probably have the prohibitionists...

...crapping their pants. A cheap [relatively] 3D metal printer.
Cheap 3D printer works with steel
Next: a printed gun that's dangerous and affordable
May you prohibitionists live in interesting times.

H/T to Sebastian.

My mama always said you are known by the company you keep.

Kaye Hagan is known by the company she keeps, and since she is taking donations from Gabby Gifford's anti gun PAC she has placed herself firmly within the anti Second Amendment crowd. Its not as if we didn't know that already. She did vote for the Manchin-Toomey and universal background checks.

Remember the mentally disturbed [unarmed] guy in Times Square the NYPD shot at and missed?

They hit two bystanders instead. Wonderful marksmanship that. Well, the mentally disturbed guy has been charged with assault because the officers of the NYPD can't shoot for shit AND fired their weapons negligently*.
The defendant is looking at 25 years in jail for the crime of provoking law enforcement into shooting random citizens. If this flies in New York, then there is no law. - Mark Steyn
That's f**ked up, but that's Bloomberg's New York.

*The discharge of their weapons may, MAY, have been legal, but it was negligent because non-involved peoples was around and about the target. Then again, that's Bloombergistan and the rules may be different than in flyover country where I live.

Alamance vote allows concealed weapons in county buildings

The Alamance County Board of Commissioners declined to pass a ban on open carry in county buildings and repealed the ban on concealed carry for those same buildings. Good.
