What government shutdown?

I've been told there was one during the Clinton Administration. If so, it had little to no impact on me. I suspect this one will be much the same.

By the way, if a shutdown does take place it will be because a certain f**kwit in the White House won't sit down and negotiate in good faith with the opposition.

H/T to Kevin.

I can sympathize.

On night shift, around 4 am, working a twelve hour shift with only about four hours sleep before coming in. That's me.

Not nearly as cute though.

H/T to Borepatch.

John Kerry signs the UN small arms treaty...

...and with 53 Senators on record opposing it that's it. Unless sometime down the road the numbers change. It has been signed. It can always be brought up again when the numbers favor the prohibitionist, internationalists, and statists. Ya know, the pricks in the White House. And what do ya want to bet the Obama Administration will implement what portions it can without the Senate's approval.

NRA statement on the treat.

Another politician has revealed he's Bloomberg's...

...bitch. Nothing new here. He's always been someone's bitch. Now the question is will Virginians kick him to the curb in the upcoming election.

I'll be interested to see how this works out.

Fed-Up NY Man Sets Up Hidden Camera to Find Out Who Was Repeatedly Stealing His Pro-Gun Sign – What He Discovered Blew Him Away
I don't know what the ordinances are in Somers NY regarding signs in the yard, but I'm pretty sure the First Amendment applies there too just like the Second Amendm... Boy, is that home owner f$%^&d.

More Zero Tolerance Bushwa

A school has suspended and may expel a twelve year old and friend who were playing with airsoft guns in his yard while waiting for the school bus. The schools are now trying to tell parents what their children can do at home on private property and the local news outlet asks, "Has zero tolerance gone to far?" They have to ASK? Seriously? Zero tolerance policies are what school administrators do rather than exercise discretion. Its also what they do instead of minding their own damn business. The parents need to hire an attorney and go for the throat.

Let me get this straight.

The White House is refusing to even negotiate with the Republicans on the Debt limit and budget, AND the resulting default is the Republicans fault? Seriously?

Pot calling the kettle...

I cannot remember a time when one faction of one party promises economic chaos if it can't get 100 percent of what it wants. That's never happened before. But that's what's happening right now - President Barak Obama
...and that's not what you do every time the Republicans question your deficit spending? Compromise means both side give not just the Right.

Starbucks: So much for neutrality.

Starbuck's policy of defaulting to local laws on whether guns were allowed in their stores and staying out of the debate was a nice change of pace among national retailers. Imagine...a national retailer with decidedly liberal tendencies opting for neutrality in the gun debate and letting the free market work? That got Starbucks the appreciation of a lot of American and not just gun owners.

So much for that.

In telling gun owners we are welcome but not our guns, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has indeed chosen a side. Guess what Bub? If my gun isn't welcome neither am I. No Starbucks will ever see another penny from me. I'm not so naive that I believe that decision will make a difference in Starbucks' bottom line, but I won't do business with someone who gives my enemies a victory. Ever.

Does one purposeful mistake invalidate...

...the usefulness of an entire book. Don't know. Do know that an interpretation of the Second Amendment this flawed is probably indicative of the rest of the book's contents. Do know I won't risk my kids by using the book. I'm sure there are others that will serve. Why take the risk?

The book pile is a bit shorter now.

It's been awhile seen I listed what books I've read. Here's the last couple of months worth in reverse order.

Darkship Renegades - Sarah Hoyt
Darkship Thieves - Sarah Hoyt
Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - Cassandra Clare
Custer at the Alamo - Gregory Urback
The Last Praetorian - Mike Smith
Swords of Exodus - Larry Correia & Mike Kupari
1636: The Devil's Opera - Eric Flint & David Carrico
Holy Warrior - Angus Donald
Target Lancer - Max Allan Collins

I enjoyed all of them. Angus Donald, Sarah Hoyt, Gregory Urback, and Mike Smith were all new to me. In Hoyt I've found another source to fill my yen for libertarian Science Fiction. I've had the books on the Kindle for a bit now but never got to them. Damn sorry I waited so long now.

Here's an idea.

Why not reserve comment until the facts are known?
MILLER: Obama uses Naval Yard shooting to stoke fear, push anti-gun agenda

Obama vows justice for those behind 'cowardly act' at Navy Yard

...and that would be more actions against lawful gun owners because we're the problem after all, and ya can't let a crisis go to waste or let facts get in the way of agenda.

For God's sake Barry, the blood isn't even dry.

In Manhattan...

...a guy playing in traffic was confronted by police. When he reached into his pocket they feared he had a weapon and fired three rounds. They wounded two bystanders. The injuries were minor. This being New York City, the other bystanders should consider themselves lucky the cops only fired three times. Oh, the suspect was taken into custody unharmed.

When you have new toys...

Armed EPA raid in Alaska sheds light on 70 fed agencies with armed divisions
...ya want to play with them. Armed LEOs are exactly that to most of these agencies. There is no real need where local law enforcement can't be called in to help. Their only use is to justify their expense. Just saying...

Wrong

Mr. Sirota, you are full of it.

Statists always blame the NRA or the "gun lobby" when they get thier asses handed to them in the legislature or during an election. The lesson of the Colorado Recalls wasn't "fear the gun lobby". They spent less than a sixth of what Bloomberg and his fellow travelers did, and they came late to the fight. The lesson was don't piss off your constituents without expecting a response. Morse and Giron abused the process to push their agenda and locals rose up and kicked them to the curb.

The lesson? Abuse the legislative process and you will be made to pay.

H/T to David.

Colion Noir: The Black NRA...

The money quote?

Are there white people who don’t want black people to own guns? Yes. Their names are Mayor Bloomberg and Diane Feinstein.
H/T to Uncle

Colorado Recall

That's encouraging.
As of 10:02 PM, "Yes" vote: 9094 50.96%, "No" vote: 8751 49.04%
Still, it ain't over 'til its over.

UPDATE: It's over for Morse. Giron as well.

Bloomberg dumped $350,000 in to oppose this recall and lost to an underfunded grassroots effort by locals. Hey Mikey! 2014 is coming you bastard.

Prayers needed.

My youngest daughter, twelve years old, has been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and possibly meningitis. Prayer would be appreciated.

[UPDATE: 8/9/2013] It was not meningitis, but beyond that the doctors couldn't decide whether it was pneumonia or not. What you really find out during episodes of this sort is what doctors don't know. That's a hell of a lot more than they think they know. My baby is at home now on the same meds they were giving her at the hospital. It's for the best. This way the semi ex-wife don't kill nobody. What I am sure of is my baby wouldn't be home without the prayers of friends and family. Thank you all.

And we should care...

...why? As usual, Tam was spot on.

What came to mind for me when I heard the news were these panels from Ms. Tree #17 by Max Allan Collins and Terry Beatty.

The nerve of some people...

In Eureka California, a house breaker was going about his business trying to force the sliding glass door of a house not his own when he looked up and discovered the home owner pointing her pistol at him through the door. He left. Its getting so a guy can't even make a dishonest living, but don't worry. The California Legislature is doing their best to make the work environment better.

That's a real simple investigation...

...and only one question need be asked.

At a school event where a local SWAT officer was displaying police equipment a child walked up and pulled the trigger on his holstered weapon. Seriously? What they say is...

Police say because the gun was in a holster to accommodate the attached flashlight, the trigger was more accessible.
What I hear is the highly trained SWAT officer had his duty handgun in a holster that was neither designed or intended to accommodate the pistol with a flashlight attached.

Just saying...

UPDATE: Analyzing The Lodi, Second-Party, Negligent Discharge

I stand corrected.

Labor Day

Working.

Well, it is labor day.
