A state judge blocked Mississippi's open-carry gun law from taking effect next week, writing in a Friday ruling that the law was vague and that an injunction was needed to prevent irreparable harm.

If his reasoning seems kinda vague Jody Owens, an attorney for the Southern Poverty Law Center, cleared it up.

"The plaintiffs are trying to stop mayhem. We're looking at a wild, wild West scenario," Owens said.

Only one problem with that argument Jody. You prohibitionist twits have been pulling that argument out of your ass for decades and it has yet to come true. Obviously, y'all believe if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe it...

In the landmark study commissioned by Barack Obama in the wake of the Newtown tragedy, we find that mass shootings are less common than bucket drownings, that guns are used for self defense hundreds of thousands of times a year, and that suicides account for most of the deaths by firearms. And yet they conclude that smart gun technology, more safe storage requirements, and background checks are needed to reduce gun death. Gee, there's no agenda here, is there?

The major finding seemed to be that they needed more grant money to conduct more studies.

The current permit system in North Carolina is "may issue". The sheriff of a county gets to decide who gets a permit, who doesn't, and how many. They also get the fees paid for the permits. I doubt the money is the issue but the power. Sheriff's aren't law enforcement. They're politicians. Ever know a politician willing to give up power?

The North Carolina Senate has amended House Bill 937 a lot of good ways. Per Sean:

• Pistol purchase permits would be eliminated.
• Park carried rules clarified, in our favor
• Guns in locked vehicles on ALL school properties. Now you can drop your little one off at school while carrying and not be a felon!
• CHP records no longer public records. No more newspapers snooping on you
• An end to the ban on firearms at parades and funerals, if you have a CHP
• CHP holders can carry in “Assemblies that charge admission,” such as theaters.
• Silencers legal for hunting.

The elimination of pistol purchase permits is one I've wanted to see gone a long time. Pistol permits in North Carolina are "may issue". Sheriffs have a enormous amount of latitude in to whom they issue them. All of the new amendments are guaranteed to ruin a prohibitionist's day, night, week, or month. That is always a good thing.

But how could this happen? California has had an assault weapons ban since 1989, progressively tightened over a decade. This law has been on the books, and enforced, since the killer was born. The only lawful way for a Californian to possess a high-capacity magazine is if he owned it before 2000 – when the killer was eleven years old. California passed a firearms-transfer background check requirement that took effect on January 1, 1991, which checks not only for felony and violent misdemeanor convictions and pending charges, but also for involuntary mental hospital commitments. Even if you are only held for 72 hour observation and then determined to be not crazy enough for longer term treatment, you are ineligible to possess a firearm for five years. The shooter was 24– unless he was hospitalized between 18 and 19, he could not have legally purchased any firearm. You can’t drive across the border into Arizona or Nevada to legally buy a gun; federal law prohibits such transfers unless your state of residence allows such transfers — and California does not.

In Maryland, an 11 year old boy was suspended for talking about guns on the school bus. There were no threats or bullying envolved. He talked about wanting to protect his class mates from a Newtown type incident. He was interviewed by the principal and a Deputy. The deputy wanted to search the home without a warrant. The boy was suspended for 10 days. The suspension was later reduced to one day. Overkill anyone?

This occurred last December. The father decided to make the incident public after he heard about this.

When whether you offend is determined by the police then you don't have free speech and when a councilman says he believes in free speech but not if it offends then he doesn't.
